asunder by brookeshaden The world gives us so many ways to enter or exit.Hands pulling you under, hands holding you up. Sinking or floating. Going in or coming out. Sunrise or sunset. But when you do enter, show up. Look at the multitude of beginnings we are offered and remember to say yes, resoundingly, especially when you feel fear. Making this picture re-instilled in me my inevitable, effervescent magic. I begin this year with a nearly 3-month old baby almost always in my arms. I begin this year with a pledge to give you as much as I can, because my legacy will not be photography or even art; it will be the way I inspired others to take positive creative action.I begin this year with this image, after I shot 3 others in the past week, because those other images didn't tickle my inner child. This one did, and so I stand resolute - in the face of mediocrity for the sake of attention - to only do what makes me joyful. Out of the haze of American turmoil I went to this pond last night. I ran as fast as I could in my boots and dress, clutching my camera and tripod, around the perimeter of the pond. My feet got wet and muddy. My arms burned with goosebumps. I shouted "HELLO GEESE!" as the birds fluttered on the ice. I watched car after car slow down as they passed me to see if I was okay. I saw the sun set fire to the sky and I watched it with wild abandon for the cold or my wet hair. I said thank you. The world gives us so many ways to enter or exit.
