script idea and inspiration
For my script I have decided to base it in the 1920s,around a man called Charlie who unfortunately gets involved with a local gang to London called the “infamous 5” and ends up wrongfully being accused of a murder that was carried out by the other members of the gang, Charlie is quite smart and tried to argue his case in court, but is unsuccessful and ends up being sentenced to a lifetime in prison without the possibility of parole. Then after 25 years into his sentence he realises that he should “get busy living or get busy dying” and decided to escape, as life is tough in prison for him due to the colour of his skin and him not having a lot of friends as well as inside prison groups who gang up on hi daily. It takes Charlie 3 years to set up his escape and then on one winter night there is thunderstorms so he decides that this is his chance, as they will cover for all the noise he will be making. His breakout is then successful and he flees from England to the Caribbean and starts a fresh life for himself, guilt free.
  My inspirations
The Shawshank Redemption: this movie inspired me because it is about a young smart man who has his whole life ahead of him, who is accused of the murder of his wife and her lover, and has to live out the sentence or find a way over the years, it also shows his daily struggles and the way that he was treated as well as him rising to the top within prison and getting a job by the owner of the prison in which he has to do all the paper work for him. It also shows him helping out his friends and him making friends in the prison and finally him escaping and how he done it as well as where he flees to and who he meets there.
I took inspiration from this 1994s movie, as it is an old classic that was really well done and scripted as well as it staring some great people.
Another inspiration came from the popular peaky blinders series, which is set in the 1920s in post war Birmingham and is about a group of gangsters who call themselves the “peaky blinders”, I got inspiration from this series from the era it was set in as well as the many different characters and how well the overall series is scripted.
My own ideas that will be in the script
Even though I have got most of my basic plans for the script from Shawshank Redemption and Peaky Blinders, there are still some extra ideas that I would like to include in the final script, I would also like the two shows to be incorporated together, so that is why I have chosen to make it about a man who is trying to escape prison but was also a gamester in the past, I would also like the script to be based around London instead of Birmingham and Ohio, and finally I would like the main character in the script to be coloured so that the script is able to include his struggles with racism both in and out of prison.
My audience Research
http://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-5LCKKPNS8

3.) What is your favourite genre/s?
23 answered, 2 voted horror, 3 voted thriller, 5 voted action, 4 voted adventure, 4 voted mystery and 5 voted romance.
4.) Do you usually watch movies or series?
23 answered, 12 voted for movies and 11 voted for series.
The reason that I have done an audience questionnaire is so that I can know what type of person I should be aiming my script at as well as what popular genres people like and also what kind of genre will appeal to my idea.
My questionnaire results show that my script should be aimed at more of a male audience which is good as my main script idea should appeal to more male than female, the results also show that the script should be made to appeal to a younger audience of males aged around 18 to 24.
The questionnaire results also show that my script should be made into a series over a movie, but that the episodes should be feature length so around a hour so that they can contain more detail.
Finally my audience question are shows that the script should relate to some popular genres such as thriller action and adventure, so hopefully I will be able to put parts of these genres into the script.
Location research
I would like to use a old Victorian styled town or city to base my whole my script around, as it will be set in the 1920s,therefore I could use a small seaside town like Portrush as it still contains small Victorian style aspects about it, and also it is local so I know the area well.
