Botanical Dreams 2020 Inkjet print 21 x 21cm
There is a sense of disconnect between people and nature in the growing urban community of today, Kelaher encourages a fresh take on the beauty and company nature can provide us by focusing her work on the distorted reality of dreams portrayed through introspective and reflective elements created using a light prism technique, along with complimentary botanical components  that bring out the vibrancy of our surroundings.

Final Exhibition Series
- I have stuck my images to some opal acrylic cut squares to give less transparency to the images but still allow the light to shine through and have left a 1cm border around each image to allow them to be framed by the light hopefully giving them a more stand out effect when being viewed.
I am hoping the weather is sunny on the day - As i have gone with a homemade/ natural light-box type installation the brightness and warmth of the sun on the day will effect how bright and warm my images appear.

Final Printed Images
- I have printed my favourite four images to see how they all looked in print and to see how the colours interact with each other - I am only going to display 3 in my exhibition so I am going to play around with the composition and see what looks best

Print Test on Transparent Stock
- Through working closely with the print technician - We increased the contrast and fullness of the colour in the images as much as we could for printing and for them to not come out looking off - This is the result - It is slightly more dull in colour then I was hoping for but I feel that it doesn’t necessarily detract from the theme and style of the images as they have a sort of transparency to them in their textures already and this just adds to the play on light through the images.
- I could print on a different stock that is less white based and holds more colour but it would be very expensive so I am happy with this outcome.

Critical Analysis by Peer
Bronwyn Hoskin - Friend & Colleague
Bathed in warm light and rained on with flowers. The photos are romantic, ethereal, airy and pretty.  The dreamlike state is enhanced by the haze and light prisms.  I am reminded of the Lady of Shalott and other pre-Raphaelite painting.  The colours in the models clothes of blue, teal and brown harmonise with the other elements in the photo.  The pyjama style top and satin fabric add to the sleepy, sensual feel of the photos.  The yellow pansy provides an interesting focal point and is a good colour contrast to the other colours used.   The natural, unmade up face of the model adds to the celebration of nature.
However the models earrings are too solid and black, distracting from the romantic feel. The models acne and unwashed hair is too harsh a contrast with the softness of the photo and my eyes are drawn to these imperfections rather than the flowers on her face.  Likewise I find the block white cherub distracting in the second photo.  The cherub competes for attention with the other colour blocks - the flowers on the face.  The second image is slightly distributing, in the bottom image of the model’s face looks like it is starting to decay into the ground and is being smothered by grass.  I prefer the placement of the flowers on the face in the second photo.  They appear to have floated down onto the face, the large baby blue pansy has a 3d quality which I like.

Shoot 3
- This shoot I really got the hang of using the prism and was able to find new angles that created a double manipulation of the subject and the way it interacted with the sunlight to create the rainbow effects.

Print Research - Photo Exhibition
- We went as a class to the Civilisation Photography Now Exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery to look at some images in print and get ideas for our photo installation - I was on the lookout for a light-box type installation but unfortunately didn’t see any however it was still good to see photos large and in print and how artists use different ways of displaying them to compliment their imagery and style.
- Samual Gratacap had printed his image and covered them with glass that gave a glossy stand out shine and slightly 3D effect. This is probably most similar to the light-box style I am going for though less bright and transparent.

Notes / Plan for Shoot 3
- I didn’t feel like my images were setting a cohesive theme or story between shoot 1 and shoot 2 so I have planned another photo shoot where I would like to try and get more similarities in:
- Colouring - the greens need to be darker
- Composition - looking down on the subject from above, creates more of a dreamy feel to the images
- Models clothing - Keep it the same as the first shoot to bring in the blues of her shirt - I feel like the white jumper in shoot 2 doesn’t flow well

Photo Series Samples
- Haven’t quite got it right as a photo series yet - Need more cohesiveness and flow between the images so will take some more photos that are more thought out in terms of colour, lighting and composition

Context Note
After experimenting with both digital and physical photography manipulation for my photo series, I have learned I prefer the more physical use of distorting the lens and using light forms - It gives my images a more random and unique look to them by creating the distortions during the photo taking process they are more spontaneous and there is more room for me to play, i am more likely to find new creative sparks of ideas within the process.
- My chosen context has gone in a fine arts, portraiture direction
- The images are something you are most likely to find in a gallery or art store due to their abstractness rather than in a magazine unless it was for a very eccentric brand in style
- My style chosen based around the photo manipulation aspect of this assignment is based around distortion and a warped view.
- Symmetries amongst the photo series are they have a dream like quality to them with the glass prism effect and distortion and are all shot in outdoor sunlight with nature, flowers and a singe female subject.

Print Size & Installation
- There will be a 1.5cm border of the perpects backing behind the photos to give it a bit of distancing from the window and the photos next to it.
- The perspects will smooth out dirt and marks on the window.
- I will lightly glue gun the corners of perspects to the window so it just looks like its floating there - That will peel away form the window easily once the exhibition is finished.
- I will spray glue the photo to the perspects backing so that it is clear and there are no marks
