Seeing his all to familiar bright smile she couldn’t help but smile as well. Luffy was always so cheerful and you couldn’t help but be joyful as well. Hearing his answer she had to laugh a bit. In honesty she’d never get tired of her duty but the offer to go back was wonderful to hear.

“Maybe I’ll find you all after the Reverie and go on vacation with everyone.”

He was rather sure that he had heard of the Reverie before, but he couldn’t really recall what it was about or what it was in general at all. But that didn’t stop him from nodding slightly. 

“Sound great~ should we come pick you up then?”

Because the fact that their might be a lot of marines and other people not so happy with him at all was totally slipping his mind as well. 

“Or you just skip it. It sounds boring after all.”

“…All the time,” Law murmured. He stared melancholically out at the rippling waters that surrounded them. Pale moonlight glimmered down through a blanket of dark clouds and a whispery night breeze carried his words out to sea, that they may vanish without anyone else but Luffy made cognizant of them, of vulnerability revealed in his tone.

Law turned a heavy head toward Luffy. With both confusion and concern, Law studied the glazed look in Luffy’s eyes. Law had to wonder if, in his distraction, he had misheard—or worst, switched Luffy’s and Robin’s souls by accident and then forgot all about it.

“You continue to surprise me time and again.” Law plopped himself down on the deck of the Sunny and settled cross-legged with his back slumped against the railings and his gaze on the wooden floorboards.

“Who’s to say it’d be for the better or the worse? We can’t predict the outcomes.” If such a thing were possible, mankind would forever be living in the past. There would be no end to traveling back to an earlier time to change things, over and over and over, until everything was perfect. But could such a ridiculous notion exist? A perfect life?

“There’d be many a thing to consider. Do I get unlimited chances to return to the past? Would I retain all my memories? What if I told you, you could go back and redo things, but you’d never have met your crew? Could you sacrifice them, Strawhat?” Law rose to his feet and shuffled his heels. He propped his elbows on the railings and clasped his hands.

“What if we went back, and we tried our damnedest to fix things, but we failed, and the future played out the exact same way? We could keep going back, keep fixing things, trying to right our lives, but surely, there’d be a hefty cost. Something else would go awry instead, for each success that is had.”

“Guess we’d never know,” Law mumbled. He turned sideways to Luffy and raised his brows quizzically. “Why? What would you change? Our alliance? Do you regret it now? Finally?” The corners of his lips lifted into a faint smile.

“I don’t believe we’d ever get it ‘right’. Fate can’t always be in our favor.” Law pushed away from the railings and stepped restlessly towards Luffy. “Hey.” Law jutted out his chin and cracked his knuckles. “You. You can’t sleep? We could…spar. I’ll bombard you with all the bread in your galley, and you’ll have to catch them, all, using only your mouth, without missing a single crumb. A single crumb hits the floor? Our friendship is over,” Law said, maintaining a grim expression.

“How ‘bout it? You should be exhausted once we’re done. Consider this…my goodwill gesture. Or has all that talk already made you sleepy?”

Hearing the other ones reply Lu couldn't really say he was surprised about it. Actually he expected something like this already, even though he wasn't prepared for the other one to use a tone like this. It just... wasn't fitting Law. On the other side his own words weren't fitting him to beginn with so it probably was just fair for the other one to be a little bit off himself as well.

Tilting his head to the side he looked towards the other one, not really sure what to reply at all. Well he was full of surprises, so the other one shouldn't exactly be surprised by the fact that he was full of surprises right? Or... was that even making sense?

In the end he really tried to follow the other ones words but honestly. Lu didn't expect him to get so much in detail and Law probably had lost him after his second or third sentence or something. He certainly wasn't really listening anymore at all, a little bit lost in his own thoughts about things that should have been supposed to end different, but in the end he was pulled out of this thoughts probably at the right time.

"What? No! It's just..." Yeah... he couldn't explain it himself, could he? Not really but still.... "Why should I regret that? And what's this finally stuff? This alliance was your idea, you remember?"

Well.. .it had been before. A lot of things had changed since than. And even more truths came to light so why was he surprised at all?

Maybe because he already got used to have the other one around again. It was a reminder of the good old times. With 'good' still being something not easily to define.

"I'm not talking about having fate in my favor. I just... if I would have acted different before... could their life be better than it is now?"

It was probably a question with no real answer. And even more so... none he should break his head about. He should think about stuff like this at all but still... Damn he was so tired..

He didn't realise the other one was getting closer to him until he stood right in front of him and honestly the ravenhaired couldn't tell if Law had actually walked over to him or just used his room to teleport. It probabyl would remain a mystery.

"That sounds like a stupid game Torao? You're okay or did you hit your head somewhere?"

“Totally.” 

He didn’t even need to think about that. With all this sitting around and getting nothing done he took every opportunity to get a kind of change. The game hadn’t been actually been a plan of his and honestly he probably never had though about actually jumping from a building but well.. he wasn’t made of rubber for nothing right? Probably should have checked the ground for shards of glass before crashing into them. While the crash itself didn’t really hurt at all the shards did and the cuts on his arms and all the blood told the rest of the story.

Well at least the rest of the base had something to wonder about now. Like where the son of the commander got injuries like that in the first place in a place supposed to be safe. 

Laughing quietly he shook his head. 

“You should have seen the guys face. I bet he wasn’t excepting me to actually jump.”

At first Luffy was rather sure that the voice hasn’t been anything else than his pure imagination. There wasn’t a reason for the older one to be here. Neither logically nor imaginably. But still… there wasn’t any reason to hallucinate about this person at all so the raven haired was rather sure that the possibility of Law really being here was a tiny little bit bigger than his mind just playing tricks with it. 

“To..torao?” he mumbled quietly, not really sure if he even did speak out loud at all. Was this really happening? Or was he dead already? He certainly couldn’t tell. Everything happened so fast since he first took a step on this island and everything went down a way Lu hadn’t even thought about at all. “…you…you’re really here?” 

The better question would be ‘why are you here?’ but the younger one couldn’t brig himself to ask it. Instead he tried to open his eyes, to get sure this was really happening and not some crazy dream or something. 

The moment Doflamingo had made it look like he changed sides yet again Luffy had been rather sure that he wouldn’t see Law again. And yet… would he really? If he just would be able to actually open his eyes. But staying awake was hard enough already as it was. 

“‘m tired..”

Brulee couldn’t believe herself what she just said. But it was all better than to be killed by her siblings or her mother for being a traitor(albeit unwillingly) so she did her best to support the Strawhat which at least would maximize her chances of survival.

“Keep the thanks for yourself, it’s basically your fault that i am in this situation, so i simply want to rescue my own ass, got it?” she retorted with a sigh. Though she had to admit that Luffy had something on him that sure was motivating…to hell with that. She created another mirror and rolled it in front of Luffy.

“Reflection!” she exclaimed, effectively dodging an attack from one of her siblings towards the Strawhat.

For a short moment he stopped in his current doings - meaning moving and avoiding being attacked - to look at her surprised. He never thought about it that way, did he?

Well it was true, that the other one never helped them on her own will, probably he forced her in this from the beginning but still… the grin on his face grew a bit wider once the other one protected him again.

“Well whatever. Lets get out of here.” he decided, giggling slightly. He wasn’t so sure if she was really doing that just to protect herself. Protecting him like that put her in a huge danger after all.

And with that he started running again, totally obvious of the direction he was running to but still pulling the other one after himself.

Technically he was right. Technically, she was instigating trouble. Something she often scolded her soldiers for doing.

Right now she didn’t give a damn. She was restless, and this brat was proving to be an enjoyable fighter. Fists and kicks, counters and hits. At least she had the sense of mind to fight him in an open area and not the center of town. Breaking buildings and property was a pain in the ass.

Panting lightly and with sweat on her brow, Lattice’s grin has grown.

“…you’re not half bad for a Rookie.”

He didn't really paid any attention to the fact where their fight lead them to. At some point he probably would be surprised, that he wasn't in town any longer but for now it wasn't any important at all.

At least he couldn't deny that this fight was some kind of fun. It was an interessting change of pace, after all he got a little bored and restless in the last few days with all the peace around - something his nakama had been rather glad for, he couldn't really agree with that point of view but he accepted it by promising to stay out of trouble. Well this wasn't his fault at least. Hopefully Nami would believe that at all.

He couldln't tell how long the fight had went on until she started to talk again, making him stop for a moment, blinking, before adjusting the strawhat on his head.

"I'm the best." he replied grinning. "After all I'll be the pirate king."

He never made any secret out of this. Still. He had proven countless times that he better shouldn't be underestimated.

It made her feel warm on the inside hearing him say that. She would never forget the promise they made.

“Of course we have.” 

Nodding slightly he showed her a wide smile. No matter what distance would be there. If she needed him he would probably do the impossible to be there for her. Leading him to make his crew doing the impossible as well because he would happily drag them in everything that would be against them. 

“And if you’ll ever grew bored with all this being a princess stuff you’re always welcome on the Sunny.”

The response does little to change her expression, nor the fire in her swinging attacks.

“Why the hell not? You’re a pirate, one notorious for causing trouble… It’s my duty to keep the peace here.” A vindictive smirk pulls at her lips as he begins to fight back. Finally. She’d been itching for a decent rumble after a dry spell of boring.

“…besides, hitting you makes a nice sound.”

❝  Well at least I tried to stay out of trouble so it’s actually you disturbing the peace right now? ❞

It probably was one of his brighter moments that made him say something like that. Probably it was due to the hits on his head? He probably didn’t care enough to really think about it. 

Well that was finally the moment all his efforts of staying out of trouble shattered into pieces because after the fight start it didn’t take that long to completely ruin their surroundings.
