There’s a very subtle, muted beauty to the downstate farmlands from a country road, the way you can look in every direction and see nothing but muddy fields out to the horizon, the road traveling straight as an arrow until it fades into the steely gray overcast sky, that becomes utterly terrifying when your phone GPS decides to recalculate right as you get out of tower range and the route disappears and you have absolutely no idea where the hell you are. Anyway I’m home now.
