Heaven Meets Earth
By: Jhona Marie Cruda
One of my unforgettable travels is when I was invited with my friends to go hiking in Mt. Pulag at Benguet. I always love to travel especially spending time with nature. I can no longer remember how many hours the travel time on the road but it takes so long to get there.
Mt. Pulag (Pulag means bald)
Anyway, the activity started at exactly 1:00 o’clock in the morning. During the night, we stayed at the foot of the mountain and there we built the tent. Before I went to sleep, while laying down facing to the sky I enjoyed watching the stars twinkling. The stars seem so near as it looks bigger than the stars I saw in the city during night. I felt like they were reachable. As a selenophile person, I was mesmerized!
Moving forward, even though I wore thermal clothes and socks, I was still shivering because the weather was so cold. Yet the surrounding was sound and safe. The night went silent and only crickets that was making a sound until I fell asleep.
Suddenly, the rain poured and it woke me up. I heard the big rain drops dropping on the tent while drenching the ground. I felt the icy-cold in my skin. The weather became so chilly.
The doubt and fear crept into my mind. I was thinking I might not be able to make it to the top because I felt like I cannot handle the cold. Yes, my courage went down and I was worried that I might just waste the chance.
The dawn came and my friends were preparing to go. They were not bothered with the cold while I was still fighting the dilemma. The rain stopped and I was convinced to go. The journey continued and I was glad I was able to fight my fears.
The forest is magical. I saw big and tall trees, amusing size of grasses and plants, different wild flowers and saw a spring. The water was mildly sweet and refreshing.
However, when we reached the mountain, the scenery was different. The grasses were not tall and seems like withering. I only saw one tree and a few tiny white flowers.
I and my friends went to the very top of the mountain. It was 6:00 am when we arrived there. I saw the sun rising beautifully in the horizon. I saw the clouds floating. I saw the foot of the mountain. I saw little mountains. I saw the top of the trees dancing in the wind. I saw how wide the place is.
The journey was remarkable to me. While staying on the top, feeling the wind, I learnt something. “The world is so vast to limit ourselves to such a thing that we messed up a portion of our life." The tree standing alone even no one else is there. The tiny flowers bloom even in the midst of withering grasses. For me, even the sky is not the limit.
There is so more to life here on earth. I realized that I can do more and I can be more. I felt amazing while standing on the top of the mountain gazing the view with full of admiration of the amazing creation by the Creator. I felt like I was on top of the world. I felt happy and relieved. I felt I had conquered something great. I felt heaven on earth.
