kazumiies:

while the other speaks , kazumi runs her fingers loosely through kimiko’s locks , it was always soothing . “ hey – maybe he has some other things on his mind but let’s keep a positive mindset because as of now , he didn’t say he didn’t like you . ” her tone of voice is cheerful , not wanting to down the other girl’s hopes but at the same time , she didn’t want to get ‘em up either . either way , she didn’t want kimiko to be HURT but she can tell that she’s truly heads over heels for kihyun . “ you’re a catch . if he doesn’t like you , it’s totally his loss . ” she grins , the type that is smile but with the entire galaxy painted across her lips . “ do you want to go out ?? find another boy to keep your mind occupied ?? ” she teased , poking her best friend’s cheek , just to get a smile out of her . “ pfftt , if you wanna go , i’d go ! i haven’t been back in so long , maybe a vacation is just what we need . ”

“i dunno, kaz... i kinda.... kicked him out because he was being an ass.” she sighs, black hair strewn across kazumi’s lap. it’s calming, being with her best friend. she really feels like she can be herself around her. of course, getting to talk in japanese with her helps too. “he pretty much said he wouldn’t give me the time of day unless i was chasing someone else too. like, i don’t even KNOW.” she buries her head in her hands, trying not to let her emotions get the best of her. “you’re sweet, kaz. but i’m not really that much of a catch. i’m a naive twenty one year old girl who barely speaks the native language and is too clumsy for her own good. the only positive to anyone dating me is my looks.” she runs a hand through her messy hair. “i dunno. i wish his stupid fucking face wasn’t so handsome, that i didn’t have to live seeing him everyday because he’s my neighbor. i wish he wasn’t such an ASS.” her lips quirk up into a small smile at the mention of their home country. “maybe we should go before the summer ends. go play on the beach and visit the temples and what not. do all the touristy things that we couldn’t do as japanese people.”

did he expect her to be bitter ? yes, of course. did he expect her to be mad at him ? his answer would remain the same. but was he expecting her to press on his buttons without any filter whatsoever ? no. thus once she was done with her chiding, he leans forward, his voice lower than it was before as he looked firmly at her. “ and you don’t think i haven’t heard that line before ? don’t lie to yourself by saying you wouldn’t have imagined anything in the future - about us or anything at all. every girl does so. ” so yes he was generalizing, but he has had to pull out rough and harsh words just so it would get through to her head that he wasn’t only doing it for the sake of himself but for her as well. “ no, on the contrary i’d think you’d be worthy of a good lay at least - because then i know that’s all there is to it. because you’d have someone else to think of and not focus solely on me. ” it was an odd request, but kihyun would rather save himself the trouble of going through rejection and heartbreak from another yet again even if it made himself seem like the worst asshole in the world. “ well i’m sorry but it looks like you didn’t know me at all so let me just lay it down for you. ” he sighs, eyebrows furrowed as he tried to keep his emotions in check. “ i liked what we had - all the flirting was fun and games and that’s all i would ever want from you. but if you think the lines are blurred and that we would be going anywhere beyond that you are sorely mistaken. ” he emphasized, his tone serious and a huge contradiction to what it was before. he stands up then, making a move towards the door. “ so come back to me only when you’ve finally decided what your ‘gut feeling’ is telling you. ”

“maybe if you would get your head out of your ass, you wouldn’t hear that line so much.” she spits back. kimiko is not in the mood for this in the slightest. “i did yeah. two months ago when we started this whole thing, and then i learned about who the fuck you are, and every thought of that went out of my mind, because i deserve a better boyfriend than that. than someone like you.” kimiko is usually slow to anger, but this is just over the top for her. she glares at kihyun, a look not very many people have seen from the usually sweet and soft girl. “you know, most girls don’t like it when you treat them like a piece of meat, kihyun. when they have to be fucking more than one guy for you to even give them the time of day.” she flicks black hair out of her eyes, face set when he talks to her seriously, jaw rigid. “get the fuck out of my house.” she shoves his chest. “get out. i don’t want to see you here. get the fuck out before i do something i’ll regret and jaden has to come bandage me up because i punched you.”

kihyun sighed then, running his hands through his hair. her reaction was to be expected, same as he expected from all the others before her whenever he had done the same thing. “ i do - and it’s precisely why i’m drawing the line here and now. ” he tries to justify his actions. he wouldn’t expect her to understand where he was coming from, neither was he going to ask her to stand in his shoes because ultimately, she never experienced what he did, and was never the victim for his actions. “ no one did, but any stranger could see that i was on the way to becoming one, unless of course, you were flirting with someone else, ” he says, raising at eyebrow at the thought. unless he hadn’t been observant enough, there really was no one else. “ see, becoming more than any conquest just means settling down, doesn’t it ? for what more is there to a ‘conquest’ ? ” he asks, before glancing at her, her eyes dark and unsettling as they glared back at him. he couldn’t even be bothered to match the same intensity they had, for he knew he deserved to be at the end of such looks. “ i know you like me, that much is obvious. but are you interested in becoming nothing more than a fling ? ” he knew he sounded rude, but it was the only way to speak the truth plainly and quickly. “ because the way you look at me tells me otherwise. so unless you disagree, i won’t go ahead and lead you on. ”

“you know what you THINK it means, kihyun.” she points out, starting to move the food to plates. it’s automatic for her, finishing cooking. it’s keeping her hands busy from doing something she might regret. “just because i flirt with you doesn’t mean i’m imagining white weddings or some shit, kihyun. i KNOW how you are. you don’t think i didn’t know that when i started flirting with you? i’m not STUPID, for fuck’s sake.” she sighs, crossing her arms over her chest. “what if there was someone i was flirting with besides you? not that it matters, because there isn’t, but really, what if i was? would that hurt your little EGO?” she doesn’t mean to get angry with him, but he’s pushing her buttons. “oh my god, kihyun, i’m not expecting you to be my fucking boyfriend or anything!” she runs a hand through her dark hair exasperatedly. “i’m going to be completely honest with you here, and say that i don’t know what i want. i’m not the sort of person to sit down and plan my entire life out. i was just going with my gut feeling, which obviously was a stupid decision because now we’re fucking fighting and this is the OPPOSITE of what i wanted to happen.” her hands are shaking, so she stuffs them into the pockets of her dress, taking a deep breath.

kazumi welcomes the other as she gets c o z y on her lap , “ kihyun ?? ” she definitely knew that name , after all , the two were together at least three times a week because of the collab . at the thought of kimiko and kihyun together , she wasn’t mad at it , not at all ; he was a nice guy and she believed her best friend deserved , well , the best . but the latter sentence caused her head to quirk along with a raise of her eyebrows , “ it wasn’t a good idea ?? why would it not be a good idea ?? ” she asked urgently , racking her brain for answers but coming up empty - handed . “ is he secretly married ?? because if not , i don’t know what’s stopping him ! ” she shook her head , “ i know , babe . have you tried asking him if he felt the same way ??  if worst comes to worst , we can move back to japan . ” she teased , nudging the girl with her elbow , in hopes that it’ll cheer her up . “ he probably does like you , though . why else would he kiss you in the first place ?? if he didn’t , he probably would have said so right then and there . ”

kimiko nods when she repeats his name, resting her cheek on kazumi’s thigh. she picks through the leftover popcorn as kazumi speaks, nodding here and there. she doesn’t really know what to say or do. “i don’t know why it wouldn’t be a good idea. i mean, i thought he liked me too, but i guess i don’t really know anymore.” she can’t help but smile at kazumi being supportive. having someone like the other girl who she could trust, that she could talk about japan and boys with, that she could slip back into her first language with, it was something that could never be replaced. “he’d been flirting with me since jaden and i moved in, and he kissed me back, so i assumed he liked me. i mean, why would he do that if he didn’t?” kimiko sighs, squishing her cheek against her best friend again. “moving back to japan would be fun but we both came here for a reason.”

feeling her warmth grow distant from him, he couldn’t help but sigh as the only response. did he fuck things up between them ? he would like to think not. not when he was saving them from any further mishaps. “ hey, don’t give me that look - i know it well enough to know what it means. ” that all too familiar look of dejection, reflected by the faces whose hearts he’d broken for the past few years. but the thing here was that they barely started anything, and kimiko had already seem this way. it was obvious she fell for him, and she fell for him hard. the kiss awakened his thoughts - that despite liking each other, that was only so far they could go. they could never have a label for themselves, or even go ahead to establish any further relationship. kihyun couldn’t - wouldn’t settle. not so young, and certainly not so quick. “ you have to understand where i’m coming from, kimi, i can’t- i’m not the one for you, if that’s what you think i am. ” he attempts to explain his actions. “ i don’t hate you or anything, i just … don’t think it’s wise for us to go beyond what we have now. ”

kimiko rests one of her hands on the counter, taking a deep breath. she seriously does NOT want to talk about this. “do you? know what it means?” she says, still not looking at him as she works. his words hurt, but it’s not like kimiko didn’t see it coming. she knew about what he was like. it was impossible to not hear the whispers or the girls giggling over him. “who said ANYTHING about you being the one, kihyun?” she shakes her head, taking a deep breath. ���I just thought... no it doesn’t matter what i think. but i thought i meant more than just being another one of your conquests.” she spits out the word like venom. “i LIKE you kihyun, and i thought that you liked me back, but i guess i’m just wrong as always.” steeling herself, she turns to look at him, dark eyes set. “what we have now? i kissed you and you pushed me away. what we have now is apparently nothing to you.”

kazumiies:

it’s another one of their typical nights , both her and kimiko were sprawled out on opposite sides of the couch , legs somewhat tangled as some unknown comedy film playing in the background while they chatted away . “ you were totally aiming for my nose on that one !! ” she yelled out with laughter , wrinkling her nose as she ate the piece of popcorn that landed on the couch . “ oh , who’s the lucky guy ?? ” kazumi asked with wide hues , “ okay that doesn’t even happen that often ! ” yes , it did . but this wasn’t about her , it was about her best friend having boy troubles ! “ i , the one and only wise , kino kazumi is here to give you any advice your heart desires . ” she says with a laugh , even holding kimiko’s fingers , much like what a psychic would do . 

“I was not!” she laughs, shaking her head, and nudging kazumi’s hip with her socked foot. the two had a very calm relationship, best friends without any pressure to do certain things or behave a certain way. she moves to flop over in kazumi’s lap, sighing dramatically. “....woo kihyun.” she says softly. she knows that kazumi knows him, both of them being dancers. “i don’t know, i kissed him, and he kissed me back, but like... he pulled away and said it wasn’t a good idea. what does that even mean?” she throws her arm over her face. “i really like him, zumi. i don’t know what to do about this situation. he’s my neighbor and i like him, and i thought he liked me back, but then he goes and does this. what am i even supposed to think?”
