As someone who hasn't played pf2e, only skimmed the book when it came out, is it, idk, more focused in it's goals than 5e? Like does it have the same issue of people trying to use a hammer instead of a wrench like people try and use 5e or is "hey here's a wrench, we made it really good at being a wrench"

I feel like this is less a problem with the game and more a problem with the community. that said, dnd 5e does suffer from a lack of focus that contributes to this. pf2e has no such problem. it knows what it is and every word of the system is angled toward doing that thing (playing as mercenaries who kill monsters for money in tactical grid-based combat with a heavy focus on teamwork). every element of the game is tuned specifically to support combat, dungeon exploration, and other elements of like. classic dnd-style fantasy adventure.

as far as the community, if anything it has the opposite problem. the community has a reputation for being a little too hostile to homebrew content or attempts to step outside of the box the game is designed for

none of this is to say that pf2e is a perfect game but if you want to play the kind of game that it's good at, it's hard to do much better

now if I am eating a beef patty between two pieces of bread but have not intentionally melted cheese on both sides of the patty and have included usual burger toppings, that's generally not something you can order at a restaurant and at best an approximation of a burger because you forgor/couldn't afford buns

okay so if I order a plain hamburger I am given a beef patty between two hamburger buns, if I order a patty melt I am given what is effectively a grilled cheese with a beef patty between the melted cheese and bread, if I order a chicken sandwich I am potentially given a fried chicken patty between two hamburger buns so like clearly a burger is a beef patty (with leeway for veggie patties) between two hamburger buns, add whatever toppings you like
