The smile that illuminates the beautiful face of @mrsamclaflin, 38 years old ("before you", "Hunger Games", "Nightgale", "Last night in Soho", "Daisy Jones & The Six"), shows that feelings of anger or revenge are far from his heart. Yet he had to learn to manage overbearing impulses to play Edmond Dantes in "The Count of Monte Cristo", the Franco-Italian series presented at @romacinemafest and directed by Oscar winner Bille August (from January 13 on Rai 1).

Entering the character of Dantes forced me to an important mental preparation explains the British actor.

Carrying all that load of hatred and loneliness on my shoulders for the five months of filming was really a challenge for me. I tried to feel empathy towards this man who suffers a huge injustice. Loss and pain can lead each of us to madness and anger so fierce that it finds peace only in revenge.

Success doesn't seem to have changed. «I was born in Ipswich in Suffolk, away from the lights of London. We are a family of four siblings, our parents have never made us lack the essentials but I have never enjoyed any particular privileges. At school I got average grades and I went to public university: when I shot The Riot Club the director sent me to Eton to see what a prestigious college was like! I know how important it was to grow up keeping, thanks to my father and mother, my feet well planted on the ground. Today they are proud of me.
