Fix It Felix: DIY Fridge Filter Replacements
“Fix It Felix”
DIY Fridge Filter Replacement
For some it might be common knowledge, but many people don’t know just how easy it is to fix/replace your fridge’s ice/water filter cartridge!
Hopefully, if you’re unfamiliar with this easy DIY, I can be of assistance and provide you with the steps to follow and one less thing to ask the plumber to do for you!
Step 1: Find your refrigerators brand information as well as the filter type, you can check your fridge and then turn to google for these answers!
Step 2: Order the filter cartridge according to the specifications provided by the brand/company. There are various places you can buy filter cartridges, just make sure all the information matches up so you’re not installing the wrong cartridge in your fridge!
Step 3: Once you have the filter cartridge, get ready for the install- it’s the easiest part! Most all refrigerator filter cartridges install with a simple twist or pop in and out. No hassle, no worry, just a quick easy DIY fix! Need a visual example? Check out this YouTube link! Filter Replacement Example Video
If your fridge isn’t cooperating, or something just doesn’t seem right, then calling a plumber to help you out is always a safe option! Sometimes something small can be missed, so letting a professional help diagnose the situation might save you some trouble!

National Pet Day!
Yesterday was National Pet Day!
(National Pet Day website link)
What kind of pet parent am I if I don’t take the time to appreciate the best little brat I know!
(Yes I’m absolutely talking about BayMaxx our favorite fur baby!)
So many people took the time yesterday to celebrate their pets and post pictures on social media sharing their precious fur-friends with the world, and I want to do the same here today on this blog!
If you don’t know about him already, BayMaxx is a 3 year old Staffordshire Terrier born on Christmas Eve and chosen the second he was born by me, Mollie Thomson, office manager and wife to NLP’s owner, Byron Thomson.
BayMaxx has a lot of different jobs at Next Level Plumbing including being our mascot, an occasional blogger, office guardian, and cuddle buddy.
He keeps us sane and drives us crazy all at the same time. BayMaxx and I were a package deal, so even though Byron initially wasn’t a huge fan of dogs when we first met, he came to love and accept BayMaxx realizing that I wouldn’t go anywhere without him! Thank goodness for that, now BayMaxx listens to Byron better than he listens to me! Regardless, we love him!
Do you have a pet that means the world to you? If you do, maybe you can relate!
Although it’s a day late, here’s to all the pets that make our lives better!
Thanks for being with us here at Next Level Plumbing! If you’re interested in reading more about BayMaxx or checking out his blog posts, just click any of the following links! Detective BayMaxx & Water Leak Detection, A Lesson on Life & Proud of My Plumber!

Next Level Everyday Essential Oils
Do You Use Essential Oils?
Are you a fan of them, have you only ever heard of them, or maybe you just don’t know where to start since there are so many different types and accessories?
Here at the Next Level Plumbing office, we use essential oils everyday and for practically everything! They can be a big help in changing the atmosphere of a room, adjusting an individuals mood or focus, and fixing various other problems that can happen throughout the day!
Here are NLP’s 5 favorite essential oils/ essential oil products and what we use them for regularly!
Essential Oil Diffuser:
Having a Diffuser is the main room is an absolute must for Next Level Plumbing. To walk into a room and smell an essential oil being diffused can be like having a weight taken off your shoulders unexpectedly. It fills the room with a great smell, and can often change the atmosphere depending on which essential oil you put in it! Haven’t invested in a Diffuser yet? They’re not too expensive, easy to maintain, and come in a lot of styles. Not to mention the benefit they bring by diffusing great smelling essential oils into the air!
Muscle Ease Blend/ Deep Blue doTerra lotion:
These two separate types of essential oil products are necessities these days here at the NLP office. Plumbers have hard physical labor jobs and can be expected to finish off the work day feeling sore in some part of their body. So whether diffusing the muscle ease oil blend or using the Deep Blue lotion blend on sore muscles Byron is able to find a bit of relief through the blends, topically or by simply breathing it in. The Muscle Ease blend consists of peppermint, rosemary, cinnamon leaf, and arnica oils giving off a warm, soothing and relaxing vibe. The doTerra “Deep Blue Rub” lotion has a lot more ingredients but a few of the more prominent ones include: wintergreen, peppermint, eucalyptus, ylang ylang, blue chamomile, and menthol.
Peppermint Coconut Oil mixture:
This is a simple concoction that requires melting coconut oil into a small lip gloss container or something like it. Once the liquid coconut oil is in the container I like to add in a few drops of peppermint oil and stir it up. Toss it in the fridge to harden up and it can be used as a lip balm, rub a bit at your temples to help improve focus, rub on your stomach to help reduce stomach aches, massage into your hands or any tight muscle group for a relaxing effect, it can also help with skin irritations (I use it on mosquito bites) and also as a pet odor neutralizer. So many wonderful things peppermint oil can do! This is by far the best and most useful oil (in my opinion!)
Lavender/Peaceful Sleep blend:
Lavender is another essential oil that has a multitude of uses, but it’s especially great for helping people relax and improve their sleep! Diffusing this when you sleep can help reduce any anxiety or stress and improve your overall sleep. If you’re looking for something that isn’t just the lavender scent, you can try out one of my favorite blends ”Peaceful Sleep.” This floral citrus blend is incredibly refreshing and isn’t too strong either. It’s a mix of orange, tangerine, lavender, chamomile, ylang ylang, and sandalwood oil. Either one is great but I love to diffuse the peaceful sleep or put a tiny bit on my pillow at night to really help me relax and sleep well- it works great too!
Peppermint/Vanilla “Wish” Aromatic Mist Spray:
This spray is my automatic go to when I want to freshen up a room, or even wake myself up a bit by spritzing some on myself! While the blend can be easily made at home, I bought my spray at Richard’s Foodporium (where they have other varieties of essential oil sprays as well.) I’m personally a huge fan of the sweet Christmas/winter vibes the peppermint gives with the soft undertone of vanilla mixed in. I haven’t met a single person who doesn’t take a deep breath in when smelling it then proceed to drop their shoulders in relaxation and smile at how good it smells!
Now you know Next Level Plumbing’s Everyday Essential Oils! They’re a part of our lives and we love them- if you haven’t tried any of them and are interested, do a bit of research to find the quality products and give it a go with a crowd favorite like peppermint or lavender!

April Showers Bring Bay(Maxx) Flowers!
Hello Again Friends!
It’s Springtime and there’s enough of a breeze outside most days that I can sit out on the porch and enjoy the sound of the wind chimes and fresh air all around me. I’m a happy pup for sure!
Another part of Spring that I love is all the flowers I get to see and smell!
Since I’m not a puppy anymore, I do my best not to damage those pretty plants by running through them or chewing on them, it’s all part of being an adult! (Unless I spot a lizard… then it can’t be helped!)
What’s your favorite part about this Spring season?
I want to share with you 5 of my favorite Springtime Flowers that you can add to your home, inside or out, for a fantastic floral touch and to bring a fresh look and scent to everything!
Five Fabulous Springtime Flowers!
*Note: All of these flowers are “annuals” and bloom best from spring through summer!
1. Marigold- these warm and popular flowers are perfect for Florida’s “full sun” weather- they thrive on it! Not only are they a happy, bright edition to your garden, but they also keep the bugs away!
2. Begonias- The Perfect Springtime Flower! With tiny pink and white blossoms these little beauties are a known sign across the country that Spring has arrived! Here in Florida they will happily bloom year-round, and they’ll bloom anywhere too! Just provide them with a little bit of shade and they’ll be happy!
3. Annual Cornflowers- These bright blue flowers add a lovely color pop to any place they go! Nicknamed “Bachelor’s Buttons” they will happily grow from Spring through summer, if your not a fan of the natural wildflower look they give, you can also find “dwarf” versions of them!
4. Sweet Peas- these delicate flowers are climbers, so they love to be placed alongside fences or trellises to grow! They also come in many different colors, so pick your favorite springtime hue and let them climb and add color to your garden!
5. Pansies- These flowers are a personal favorite of mine! I’m not sure why but I just love the look of them! They bloom from spring through summer and are happiest with the full sun and just a bit of shade- so they’re a perfect addition to your Florida garden!
Love to look at flowers, want them around, but don’t want to, or don’t have room to have your own? That’s ok! We like to turn on “Moving Art” on Netflix and watch the “Flowers” episode for soothing music and the most beautiful compilation of flowers in bloom!
Check it out if you want!

Until next time- Lots of Love!

PSA Part 2: Washing Machine Hoses
PSA!
Check your washing machine hoses!
(Courtesy of Next Level Plumbing owner & master plumber, Byron Thomson)
Washing machine hoses are something that is easy for everyone to forget. They are out of sight, and don’t cause problems… Until they do. And then they really cause problems.
Did You Know?!?
Washing machine hoses are one of the more common plumbing related flood causes in residential houses.
What happens is that nobody checks the condition of their washing machine hoses so over time the hoses will start to fail and can even form a bubble in the hose itself the size of a golf ball. As pressure is maintained and the hose continues to fail it will burst and you have a full open hose going crazy in your house until it is manually turned off.
To avoid this is actually usually very simple. Buy two washing machine hoses and install them. They are actually just two hose ends that connect like a hose would. Just turn off the valves and take off the old ones and put on the new ones.
The only common problem that can happen is that the shut offs might not work or the old hoses are frozen to the shut offs. In this case you will need to call your plumber to install new ones.
If you are uncomfortable installing your washing machine hoses or you just don’t want to, your plumber can do it for you and usually has them stocked on the truck.
What hoses should you get? The stainless steel braided style. This reinforces the rubber so it takes a lot more to burst.
How often should your washing machine hoses be replaced? If they are rubber, then every 5 years. If they are the stainless steel braided ones, you can make it longer, maybe closer to 10 years, but they are not that expensive so it’s not a bad idea to do them a little sooner even if they might last a bit longer.
If you aren’t comfortable checking on this yourself, we’re more than happy to help you out! To learn more about getting a free estimate, or to schedule an appointment with us at a convenient time for you, give us a call or text at 941-504-3578 or email us at [email protected]!

It’s Manatee Appreciation Day Today!!!
via GIPHY
I’m BayMaxx, your Next Level Plumbing mascot, plumber’s helper, and occasional blogging pup here again to share a fun day with you that you might not have known about- until now!
Here in Florida we love our resident manatees!
Not only are they big lumps of peacefulness but they naturally bring a smile to most anyone’s face!
via GIPHY
If you’ve had the chance to see manatees around here, whether at an aquarium or by lucky encounter while enjoying Sarasota’s lovely beaches and kayaking spots, then you know that they’re quite the hefty and happy souls!
We try to take care of them here in Sarasota, and around Florida, by protecting them with laws and reminding boaters to drive carefully through the water ways they share with the wildlife below.
If you haven’t seen our resident “mermaids” yet, I’m going to share a few ideal locations for admiring these gentle sea cows- up close and personal! (And if you’re not sure why I called them “mermaids” you can learn more about that here!
3 Perfect Places to Visit Manatees!
1. Mote Marine Aquarium! If you haven’t been, it’s worth the trip- especially for kids who love the ocean! There’s a special building to go see the manatees as well! Click this link to learn more: Mote Aquarium
2. South Florida Museum & Parker Manatee Aquarium! If you haven’t been here… GO! Even if it’s only for the manatees, you’ll also get to see tons of amazing historical and natural artifacts dating waaaayyy far back, learn super cool science stuff, and possibly catch an incredible show at the planetarium! (If you can’t  guess, I really like this place!) Click this link to learn more: South FL Museum
3. Take a trip into the great outdoors and see manatees in their natural habitat! According to locals, some of the best locations to catch these slow-moving souls munching on sea grass, are… The Canal between Tommy Bahamas & Lido Key; Ted Sperling Park; & in the Pansy Bayou. Not sure where these places are or how to get to them??? Check out this link for more details and go have an amazing adventure: The Best Places to See SRQ Manatees

Current Trends at NLP: The Common Courtesy Customer
Current Trends at Next Level Plumbing:
The Common Courtesy Customer
We see a lot of trends come in go in the plumbing industry, but some stay the same! One current trend we still see on a regular basis, is the very clear distinction between customers with common courtesy and those without!
Being in a service industry, we ALWAYS appreciate customers who show us common courtesy! It’s harder to come by these days than you think!
common courtesy
noun
Definition of common courtesy
: politeness that people can usually be expected to show
Definition provided by Merriam-Webster.com
Here are some examples of common courtesy that Byron, our master plumber and NLP owner, has experienced!
1. One of the most helpful things can be as simple as being easy to work with when scheduling. It can be very difficult to accurately determine when exactly we will arrive at your house, and the understanding that sometimes the day doesn’t go as planned for the tech is a relief. We try hard to arrive on time to our appointments because we know you have a life and want to get on with it, but extending the extra courtesy of allowing for occasional timing changes can make a world of difference for the plumber.
2. Another helpful thing that is easy to forget is to clean out the cabinet that your plumber will be working in. We clean them out all the time so it isn’t a big deal when it isn’t done, but we always appreciate the customers that know we will be working in an area and clear it out first.
3. One easy thing to forget is to move your car if you, or someone else has to leave while the plumber is there. I always try to park out of the way so cars can go in and out as needed, but in tight places I’m forced to block someone in. It is always nice to know we need to switch vehicle spots before I am all set up and starting to work.
Obviously these are not usually huge deals, but it’s little things like this that can make your technician happier, and make his job go a little smoother!
At Next Level Plumbing we always do our best to be considerate and go the extra mile for our customers regardless of circumstances!
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you…” To check out other Current Trends in the plumbing industry take a peek at these other blogs by NLP! The “Need It Now” Customers and “Over the Phone Price Pushers”
It’s our goal to always be positive and professional so we can help be any plumbing problems or emergencies taken care of quickly and efficiently! If you have need of a plumber, please reach out to us by call or text at 941-504-3578 or by email at [email protected]

Simple Spring Plumbing DIY’s
It’s Officially Spring!
<div style=”width:100%;height:0;padding-bottom:50%;position:relative;”><iframe src=”https://ift.tt/2uhEV9R; width=”100%” height=”100%” style=”position:absolute” frameBorder=”0″ class=”giphy-embed” allowFullScreen>
via GIPHY
This means longer days with even more sunshine in the sunny state!
<div style=”width:100%;height:0;padding-bottom:65%;position:relative;”><iframe src=”https://ift.tt/2Fjeshd; width=”100%” height=”100%” style=”position:absolute” frameBorder=”0″ class=”giphy-embed” allowFullScreen>
via GIPHY
How can you be sure your plumbing will hold up during the upcoming seasons??
<div style=”width:100%;height:0;padding-bottom:56%;position:relative;”><iframe src=”https://ift.tt/2uji51O; width=”100%” height=”100%” style=”position:absolute” frameBorder=”0″ class=”giphy-embed” allowFullScreen></iframe></div><p><a href=”https://ift.tt/2FhLKxc GIPHY</a></p>
DIY and check these 3 important places in your house!
1. Since Spring Cleaning has officially begun, it’s a great opportunity to clear out under all the sinks in your house and check for leaks!
2. Your water heater has probably been working hard during the terrible Florida winters we have down here… (using a strong bit of sarcasm there- Florida doesn’t really have “winter” more like two or three days where we bundle up in 40 degree weather) so you should definitely give it a check, or think about making a monthly routine of giving it a quick look over.
Make use of that spring cleaning again and clear the area around the water heater while also checking for any leaks, puddles on the ground underneath it, rust, etc.
3. Next time you’re taking a stroll around your house, or if you’re taking the spring cleaning beyond the house and into the yard, take some time to check on your main shut off valve. Regularly testing if every month or so to make sure it shuts off and on properly can save you a lot of trouble if a plumbing emergency happens!

Current Trends: “Price Pushers”…
Current Trends We See at Next Level Plumbing… “Over the Phone Price Pushers”
Our opinion on it and the policy we follow!
Blog by NLP Owner & Master Plumber:
Byron Thomson
“Can you give me a price over the phone?”
We often get asked this question when customers call us. This is something that we have decided NOT to do, and here are a few reasons for that decision.
As the plumbing professional I know exactly what to look for when I’m looking at a job to determine how much it will cost. Sometimes things are pretty straightforward, but many times there are hidden things that can increase or decrease the time and parts involved in the specific job.
Because the average homeowner is not trained to look for these things they don’t always communicate the proper picture of the job for me. This means that if I price based on what they tell me and I find out that they missed something I would have to tell them the job will cost more than I had originally quoted them. This creates mistrust from the start and I don’t like that as a business owner and salesman in this industry.
Many companies will use an initial over the phone price as a tool to get in the door, but will then hit you with all sorts of upgrades, like a $99 stoppage, but that doesn’t include using a ladder, or taking a drain trap apart, or using a bigger machine, etc.
This seems like shady business practice to me and so I have chosen to simply go out and see the job myself. Then, when I quote the job, I know my price is right and you have the peace of mind of knowing that the quote you have is accurate.
Plus, you also get to meet the technician who will be working in your house.
Check out other current trends we see in the industry today such as the “Need It Now” customer, or get a better understanding of our goals and company mindset on customer service with the blog Revolutionizing the Industry: Part 3- The New Customer Experience.
As a small business in the industry working to improve and grow in the years to come, we try to provide th best customer service and professional plumbing work for our customers. Although we are not able to please every potential customer we come in contact with, we always do our best to leave them with the impression that we’ve done very thing possible to satisfy them in regards to their connection with our business. If you are interested in reading reviews from our wonderful customers, please check out our Google Reviews, or any other reviewing platform!

Get Ready to Save Daylight & More!
Daylight Savings Returns on the 10th!
Are you ready!?
While you’re adjusting to these savings, are there any other household/home repairs (big or small) that if fixed could help you save money and time in the future??? There’s a lot that can go wrong and need repaired or replaced in homes these days…
We all like to save money, and that is no exception when it comes to plumbing. Here are a few ways to save money with your plumber.
Ask if you can have a discount for doing multiple things at once. Plumbers have to drive out to your house and that costs the plumber money, so they usually give discounts on multiple things done at once, depending on what those tasks are.
Install toilets that use less water. This costs money upfront, but it saves water for the rest of the life of the toilet. Ask your plumber what toilet fits best with your house as not all the toilets fit all types of houses the same.
If you have a problem over the weekend or late at night ask if it is cheaper during normal business hours. Companies have to pay their technicians overtime and so many pass that cost on to the customer. If you can wait till normal hours you may be able to save some money.
You can always buy your own products and that can sometimes save money. It is best though to consult with your plumber about it first. There are some products that are better to avoid and that is always good to talk to the plumber about.
Hope these tips help you save both time and money in the future!!! If you’re in need of a plumber and want a free estimate, you can reach out to us by calling or texting us at 941-504-3578, or by emailing us at [email protected]!

Not exactly sure what this day stands for and why is worth celebrating???
According to NationalDayCalendar.com tomorrow is “dedicated to the 145+ million small businesses in the US…as a tool to break through the big business dominated times.”
Many people like to support small businesses in their communities, and some prefer to stability that large businesses can provide. There’s value and logic behind both preferences!
Since we’re a small business at the moment, Next Level Plumbing is grateful for days like National Be Heard Day.
But how can we make the most of this day??

Proud of My Plumber! -A BayMaxx Blog
I’m Proud of My Plumber!
Hello! BayMaxx here again!
I was wondering… How often do you think of the people around you??
If someone does you a favor, do you thank them?
Hard work deserves to be recognized- in all businesses & fields of craftsmanship!
Today I want to talk to you about my favorite plumber and why I’m so proud of him!
Byron Thomson is the best plumber I know, and trust me I know a lot of them!
Why is he the best you may ask????
Besides the fact that he’s been plumbing here in Sarasota for half his life (over 15 years now!) he’s always aimed to raise the bar at each place he’s been employed at.
Now being self-employed, starting & maintaining a business is no easy feat! Byron prepared for this business years in advance and continues to look and plan ahead so he can provide Next Level service as the times, and technology change.
Do you know people who are passionate about their job, a hobby, or the lifestyle they’re living? Byron is that way about his job in the industry and the business he’s created!
As a master plumber he’s always learning and applying new information to his jobs on a daily basis. Rather than being an old-fashioned plumber who’s fixed in his ways and unwilling to adapt to the times and change with the advancement of technology, Byron loves the challenge & the change- because often times changes brings about newer and better improvements! Even in plumbing!
“See a need, fill a need.” That’s a line from the animated kids movie “Robots” but it’s true- and Byron is constantly recognizing needs that can be addressed & filled in the plumbing community and the industry as well!
Want to schedule for your plumber to come out but too busy to make the phone call? Would sending them a text be easier? Unsure about the reputation of most plumbers in the area? Aside from being fully licensed & insured, Byron and the staff at Next Level Plumbing strive to make personal connections and make sure the safety and comfort of their customers, because it’s a Next Level business, and we only want to provide the best results, maintain a positive connection with our customers, and earn the best reviews in the industry!
We are a smaller business now, but Byron has goals and dreams of expanding in the years to come. Along with that expansion, the business will keep its core values and continue to adapt to the technological and industrial advancements as they happen.
I know I’m thankful for all the hard work being put in to Next Level Plumbing, and for all the customers who’ve given the business a chance and provided great reviews and ratings!
If you haven’t given Next Level Plumbing a try, and you’re in need of an honest, hard-working, & knowledgeable plumber to fix any plumbing problems you’re having… give Next Level Plumbing a call or text at (941)504-3578 or reach out by email at [email protected]
They will be happy to help you out!
