I finally got my RAIC today! I swear the people at the Pass Office are the friendliest people ever. They’re so cheerful and the whole process was so quick and easy! Today was also my first Thursday night shift and it was so busy 😨 The moment we got down, there was a long line. None of the passengers had printed their bag tags or boarding passes either… so we had to tell them to go and check in with the kiosk first. There were also many passengers who came from a connecting flight with Korean Air and for some reason weren’t able to check in using the kiosk. So a lot were sent to the assistance line and it was a bit hectic. After the shift, it was just me and Ashely so we had to bring the stuff back up. I wish the elevator would fix soon 😭 But luckily we found a very interesting and fun way to bring the cart and sizer up 🤭🤣

It’s almost the end of my placement and I realized I’ve gotten so used to everything that I forget how lucky I am to have the opportunity.

The shift started off pretty chill but after a hour things got really busy. I was put on queue but it was really hard managing it because I kept getting dragged to the kiosk to help the Cantonese passengers 😭 Thankfully my colleagues would help take over whenever they saw me busy at the kiosk.

I also had such lovely passengers today!! There was this lady who was travelling with her husband that is diabetic. I assisted her with checking in and also informing her about what he should keep in his carry on. She later came back from the bag drop area to thank me again and was so appreciative, she wanted to write me a review for my service!! That really made my day :D

There was also this grandpa that only spoke Mandarin so I could understand him a little bit but I assisted him with checking in at the Kiosk. However, that was when a wave of passengers came and I had to quickly sort them out. When I came back to help the grandpa he was so appreciative that I came back to help him despite how busy I was. He was saying he understands how hard this job is and kept thanking me for my service! He was thanking me the whole time when I was guiding him to the bag drop off area!

Passengers like these remind me of why I want to work as a flight attendant! Nice passengers brings me so much joy 😁

Today was such a fun day! It started off with me seeing one of my friends who work at Porter, Asean! She got hired through her field placement, I also hope I can officially work for an airline too 🤭 I have a lot of fun working Sunday mornings and Alice taught me more Cantonese words today too like ‘checked luggage.’

I went inside the gates today and one of the passengers were kinda rude to me :( He was waiting in the economy line with his family and his father who was in a wheelchair. l I told him that him and his father can go to the wheelchair priority line instead. But he got mad because he didn’t want to be separated from his wife and children… I tried to explain to him but he wouldn’t listen so in the end I had to get one of the Cathay staff :( I’m a bit upset that I wasn’t able to resolve the situation, but hopefully I can do it next time 😭

After work we made plans to go eat malatang together! It was with Aika, Alice, Ashely and Rachel! This was my first hangout after work and it was really nice being able to talk to the girls more after work.

No pictures today :( I keep forgetting to document my time at Cathay! But I wanted to write in my journal today because today was such a good day! I had my usual Wednesday night shift but Neha and Nihdi joined us for today’s shift and it was really fun working with them! Maybe it was because I was in a happy mood but, the passengers weren’t that difficult tonight 🤔 The shift passed by pretty quickly as I enjoyed talking to the passengers today, it also wasn’t as busy as usual! I also got to see a deportee for the first time 😳 We actually thought it was a celebrity at first and she had body guards but turns out she wasn’t.. oops 😭 But I can’t imagine flying around 12 hours to Canada and having to fly 12 hours back right away 😨

Today I had another morning shift and was put on Kiosk! I got to learn more Cantonese phrases while working with Alice, one of my classmates. It’s easier to practice my Cantonese during morning shifts as there are more Cantonese speakers on morning flights than night flights. I learned how to ask passengers what class they are in and the words Economy and Business in Cantonese! I’m really happy and proud that I was able to remember them too! I also went to the gates today and the process gets easier each time. At the end of the boarding, there was someone missing that hasn’t boarded yet. So Jordan took me and the others to the lounge to find them. The lounge was incredible, everything was so luxurious. I hope one day I can wait there before a flight 🥹

This is my first shift after coming back from my 2 week trip. I arrived there at 7:30pm instead of 8:30pm because of daylight savings time. I remembered most of the duties but it was hard finding my flow of words when talking to passengers at first. I also got my TSC card today so I got to go to the gates! I went in early to get a tour of the aircraft and it was really cool seeing the business class and also the cabin crew rest area! I got to go inside the cockpit and they let me touch the mouse and some of the buttons! Afterwards, I learned how the boarding process works and I think it’s a lot more efficient than other airlines. We go down the line stamping passengers boarding pass after verifying their name and photo with their passport, but also checking for their seat and flight number.

I finally got my uniform!!! I feel like I’m officially part of Cathay Pacific! It was also my first morning shift today and I like it much better than night shifts. I like being able to see the sky and the parked planes outside! Everyone is also a lot less grumpy compared to night time 👀

Today was my first Sunday night shift and it was so fun!! I really enjoy working with everyone there especially Esther! I was on Kiosk today compared to the other nights where I’m mainly on SSBD, so it was a nice change. One of the passengers requested to take back their bags after checking them in, so Thomas, one of the staff at CX was kind enough to show me and Esther the procedures of what to do when that happens! We were lucky that the bags havent transferred onboard the airplane yet, so it was just sitting at Arrivals waiting for us. However, if its already on the plane, then they would have to find the luggage amongst all the other lugggaes and crates which can be very difficult and heavy. It was nice learning more about the other responsibilities of a Ground Agent!

The team for Wednesday night shift! The airport is so quiet after everyone is checked in but there are always 1 or 2 people running in right before check in closes 😂 I’ve also never taken the Link Train before so it was a cool concept to me that no one was driving it.

Orientation Day! 😁

September 9th, 2024 marks the day I begin my journey with Cathay Pacific! I'm so excited to be working my first job at the airport and working with Cathay!

Our meeting place was at Terminal 3 in front of the Relay store, but I got lost finding it since I’ve never been there before. Once I found it, Hana and Cadence gave us a tour of the counters and office. It’s really exciting knowing that I’m going to be working at the airport soon even if it's just a placement. We also had our uniform fitting today and the uniforms are so cute! I wasn’t able to take one home since they ran out of my sizes :( But I made some friends while waiting for our fittings, so that made me really happy :)
