2 hours and 15 minutes. That's how long the flight is between LAX to SeaTac. Not really a long flight but one I always wish I could fast forward. You see, I left my heart in the Pacific North West and it belonged to a Latina/Asian queen named Adriana. She wasn't really a queen in the regal sense, but she was the queen of my heart and I loved her... truly, madly and deeply. She was my favorite person in the world and I remember counting down the days till my next visit to see her.
Circumstances didn't allow us to be together geographically and that hurt. We remedied this problem the best we could, the way most couples in long distance relationships did... with texts, phone call, video chat, and endless selfies. There were a lot of tough days but hearing her voice put me at ease. All of a sudden the distance seemed to shrink and I felt like was home.
She was taking care of her mom, working at a daycare and finishing school to be a dental assistant. While I was working two jobs as a nurse and taking care of two retired parents. We were both bound to family obligations but we did our best to make things work. I saved my money and every month I would take some days off and go see her. She was my first true love and I fell hard.
I cherished every moment. But one that really sticks out in my mind was the first time I went to see her in Seattle. I remember landing, quickly grabbing my bags and muscling my way out of the airplane. I made a last minute stop to the bathroom. I did a mirror check, made sure my hair was on point and put on my favorite cologne.
I remember walking through the terminal when suddenly someone jumped on my back, kissed me on the cheek and said "hey handsome!" My heart stopped and my knees felt like jello. I quickly dropped my bags and turned around. There she was. More beautiful beautiful than I remember. Our eyes met and shortly after, our lips, and it was game over... best smooch of all time! It came from an honest and innocent place, our hearts....

If someone wants to be a part of your life they will work to be there. So you don't have to save a space for someone who won't make an effort to stay. People want their "forever," I know I do. But you can't be afraid to give someone a chance when they make their way into your life. Who knows? You might just miss out on someone amazing. Recently I've learned to choose the people who choose me and trust that what is meant for me will always be for me. #4amthoughts💭
