Nanman Story
Everyone loves the Nanman, right? Menghuo and Zhurong are lovable and they’re just plain fun to be around. With their elephants, poison swamps, tigers, and invincible-but-flammable soldiers, battles with the Nanman are always interesting. If I’m going to be proposing stories for “other” factions, the Nanman definitely seem like a shoe-in. For a while, I was at a loss for just what to do with them, but I’ve finally got it down now.
This scenario liberally combines fact with fiction, history and folklore. It’s probably not quite what you would expect, but I think it’s the best way to handle the whole ordeal. So here you go, my ideas for a Nanman story mode.
You can also check out my suggestions for stories of Yuan Shao, the Ma Family, and Liu Biao.

Hi man, my DW cosplay group started reading your blog after I recommended it to the guys, and they really love your stuff; they enjoy the analyses, and one of them thought twice about Guo Huai. I want to ask something that's been in my head since reading your blog and comparing things in the ROTK novel. Why would anyone glorify people who are proven villains. I mean Zhuge Liang was an idiot, Lui Bei's not so benevolent, and Ma Chao's a selfish bastard, so why make them goodie-goodie heroes?
I’m glad you and your friends enjoy reading this stuff. Given how much time I spend writing about the Three Kingdoms, it’s always gratifying to hear that someone enjoys reading it. Thank you so much for the kind words.
As to your question, the short answer is: politics.
The medium answer is politics and ignorance.
The long answer is below the cut.

Ho, boy, The Advisors Alliance (大軍師司馬懿之軍師聯盟) did my boy dirty. They spread the gossip of Cao Rui hating Empress Guo Nüwang and made him a weird man. While the former is painfully acceptable, they went excessive with his portrayal in the latter.
(Not to say that TV series is yet another Zhuge Liang worshipping place even though Sima Yi is its protagonist.)
3 Kingdoms Spotlight: Cao Rui
TL;DR: Cao Rui was a supergenius who supported civil rights, talked to peasants, and was just generally a perfect ruler.

Dynasty Warriors Character Analysis: Zhuge Liang
2/28/2023: The last decade has been good for the 3K community. Our most important members have worked hard to translate a wealth of new material, and to correct old mistranslations. We all know more than we once did, and must all be able to change our minds in the face of new information. On top of that, I’m a very different person than I was when I wrote these articles. My opinons have changed. My values have changed. And I like to think I’m a bit wiser now.
All of this is to say that this article may no longer be an accurate representation of my thoughts and opinions. It may contain significant (and embarrassing) factual errors, opinions formed in bad faith, and disingenuous arguments. Even in cases where I am correct about the facts and have reached a fair conclusion, my personal values have changed significantly. Some things that I once found laudable I now detest; some things that I thought foolish, I now admire.
That is particularly true regarding this article.
The article below is a product of an earlier time in my life. I have chosen to leave it in place, unedited, because I believe it is important to be able to trace statement back to its source.

The only dirt I think is worth mentioning about him is Xuzhou and Cui Yan. And perhaps in a lesser extent, Xun Yu. But Xun Yu's death is a bit difficult to say either one or another.
