Sacred Heart Parish Shrine
Kamuning, formerly known as Barrio Obrero II, was a housing project site for government employees and their families. Late in 1939, the Kamuning Residents' Association sought pastoral care from the Society of the Divine World (SVD). The First Mass was celebrated where the Kamuning Public Market now stands, on that year's Christmas Eve. In the early 1940s, the parish boundaries reached as far east toward Loyola Heights and westward up to the Mabuhay Rotonda. About a year later, on October 1, 1941, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish was established, and it has been in the care of the SVD missionaries since then. Today, the parish covers five barangays – Kamuning, Sacred Heart, South Triangle, Kristong Hari, Kalusugan, and part of Obrero.
The parish celebrates its annual fiesta on the movable feast Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart according to the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church, the Friday right after the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is discussed in the writings of St. bonaventure, St. Gertrude and St. Francis de Sales, but is popularly associated with St. margaret Mary Alacoque,(1647-1690). In the "Great Apparition", Christ appeared to this French nun and showed her His wounded Heart and said, "Behold, this Heart burning with so great a love for man." Today, devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is aimed at the triumph of the Catholic faith and at a strong defense of Christian morals. Through our devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we express our own love of God for us, we give thanks for God's love and we live so as to imitate God's love for all in our daily life. Pius XI wrote of this devotion, "Indeed, it more easily leads our minds to know Christ, the Lord intimately and more effectively turns our hearts to love Him more ardently and to imitate Him more perfectly."

MISSION--6 PRIORITY AGENDA:
Worship- An active participation in worship, and growth as a shrine.
BEC (Basic Ecclesial Community) Small Bible- Sharing groups of faithful, with mastery on the Bible.
Catechism- Innovative catechetical program appropriate for school and community.
Media- Utilize media (internet, print, radio, and TV) for evangelization.
Stewardship- Sharing of time, talent, and treasure of Church mission.
Emerging Ministries- Update policies in the light of Felt-need ministries.
The mission of the church is significantly focuses on being a community of disciples. The church wants to continue the mission of Christ as a community and the community of disciples is wanting to know Jesus, to love Jesus, to serve Jesus and a follower of Jesus. Every disciple does not simply being passive one, one should take active participation in spreading the good news.
