Starting 19 December 2025 through 20 March 2026, the Travelski Night Express will run 14 return trips between Paris and Bourg-Saint-Maurice, with stops including Moutiers and Aime. The train features 660 berths, a bar-restaurant car, and a range of accommodation options—including private cabins and dedicated spaces for solo female travellers. Departing Paris on Friday evenings and arriving Saturday morning, the service allows skiers to maximise their time on the slopes. Resorts served include Méribel, La Plagne, Val d’Isère, Les Arcs, Tignes, Courchevel, Val Thorens, and Les Menuires. Travelski packages include train travel, transfers, accommodation, ski passes, and optional equipment hire. The relaunch marks the first sleeper service between Paris and Bourg-Saint-Maurice since 2016, and reflects a growing demand for low-carbon travel to ski destinations. The work was carried out using environmentally friendly construction techniques developed by HYT, including low carbon compressed earth blocks.   For the Batwa, who have spent generations on the margins, often without access to clean drinking water or sanitation, the impact is profound. “We wanted our holidays to do more than deliver magical ski weeks,” said Andy Sturt, founder of VIP SKI. “This project shows how something joyful, time in the mountains, can help transform lives elsewhere.”  The Batwa, once forest-dwelling hunter-gatherers, were evicted from their land in the 1990s to make way for national parks. Many now live in makeshift shelters, lacking basic services. HYT works to improve lives in these communities by combining sustainable building with skills training and community engagement. The FIS had decided that the World Cup Final of that season would be a parallel slalom race, with the obvious intention of making the finale even more exciting. At that point, no one knew what they were about to witness in this unforgettable ski season. Heading into the final race in Ortisei, which was set to crown an already iconic season, three athletes were tied at the top of the overall World Cup standings: Gustav Thöni, the South Tyrolean superstar and leading figure of the best Italian ski team of all time. The legendary Valanga Azzurra, was chasing his fourth Big Crystal Globe. Ingemar Stenmark, the Swedish sensation, coached by local hero Hermann Nogler, was on the brink of making history by winning the overall World Cup at the age of 19. He would later go on to take the most world cup wins in history and hold that title until Mikaela Shiffrin finally overtook his 92 wind four decades later. Franz Klammer, the Austrian powerhouse and the most successful downhill skier of all time, who was not expected to have much of a chance on the challenging slalom course of the Ronc slope. Everything was set for an epic battle, and the outcome came down to a last-minute showdown: The two rivals and favourites for the overall World Cup title, Thöni and Stenmark, faced off in a dramatic last race, that would decide who would take home the prestigious Crystal Globe. A showdown for the ages unfolded on the legendary Ronc slope, with 40,000 passionate fans in Val Gardena and millions more watching on television, witnessing sports history. In the end, it was Gustav Thöni who triumphed over the young Swedish sensation, securing his fourth Big Crystal Globe. Now, 50 years later, the story comes full circle. On August 28, 2025, at 5:30 PM, Gustav Thöni and Ingemar Stenmark will reunite on stage at the “Luis Trenker” Cultural Center in Ortisei, Val Gardena — side by side — to look back on that unforgettable race – sharing memories, emotions and rare insights into one of the most historic moments in alpine skiing. Gut-Behrami is one of the most successful ski racers of all time, with 48 World Cup wins and 100 podiums, as well as Alpine Ski World Championships wins in the Super-G and Giant Slalom. She took the World Cup overall titles in 2015-16 and 2023-24 and has also won a record six Super-G globes. She joined the World Cup tour in the 2007-8 season and first podiumed in a downhill at St Moritz at the age of 16 on 2nd February 2008, coming third despite falling close to the end and crossing the line on her back. She also took her first win at St Moritz later that year, taking the Super G in December, now aged 17, at the start of the 2008-9 season. Now aged 34, Gut-Behrami, is the first woman with at least ten World Cup victories in three different disciplines. The Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics next February will be Gut-Behrami’s fourth, she hass three Olympic medals and took super-G gold at the last Games in Beijing in 2022. Swiss media reports that after retirement Gut-Behrami plans to move to England with her husband, former Swiss international football player Valon, who will be the technical director at his former soccer club, Watford. This new cycling challenge will take place in legendary Alpe d’Huez in Isère from 6 to 11 June 2026. The challenge will bring together a group of keen road cyclists to cycle the mythical 21 hairpin bend ascent to France’s cycling capital, Alpe d’Huez – 2, 3, 4, 5 or even 6 times. The State of the Snowsports Market survey is sent to consumers subscribed to Snow + Rock, members and subscribers of the Ski Club of Great Britain and subscribers of the London Snow Show as well as MTN’s own consumer database built since 2010. Data suggests overall numbers are slightly down, with rising cost identified as the main cost. However, more skiers are taking multiple holidays – likely meaning more trips were taken overall. 34% are believed to be taking two trips (up from 25% in 2023) and 9% taking four or more trips (compared with 5% in 2023). Earlier booking has grown in popularity as accommodation options became more limited and prices hold up.  41% of respondents saying they have booked their skiing holiday more than 6 months before travel (up from 32% in 2023). 25% of respondents have said they have already booked at least one trip for next season, consistent with the data over the past three years. Catered chalets are back on the rise following a decline partly due to factors including Brexit and Covid. 16% of respondents said they chose catered chalets, run by tour operators, have seen somewhat of a recovery with that form of holiday in the 2025 season, compared to only 9% in 2023. Three star hotels are the most popular accommodation choice (32%), but four and five star hotels have lost ground. Tour operators have also re-gained some of the market over the past year, seeing 51% of overall bookings compared to those who book independently – only 43% of skiers booked with a tour operator during the season before. France remains the number one choice for British skiers, with 59% choosing its slopes, with Austria, Italy and Switzerland remaining in second, third and fourth respectively. There has been little significant change in those results over the past three years. Separated data shows the 18-35 market chooses France first, 58% of them get inspiration from Instagram. Japan is everyone’s dream skiing destination with 37% of skiers saying it’s the place they would love to travel to (it’s 57% in the 18-35 age category). 18% have said they chose to go skiing alone (compared to 13% in 2023), and this number has been steadily rising, possibly due to the impact of rising costs making it difficult for families to commit to a skiing holiday, although it is still the largest cohort at 60% of the market (but down from 68% in 2023). Resort websites are still the number one place where skiers look for inspiration, information and advice (66%) but magazines have seen the largest growth (34% compared to 24% in 2023). Instagram is now the largest social media platform for skiers, with 25% of respondents saying they use it, although in the 18 to 35 age bracket, that goes up to 58%, the second largest source of information for them after resort websites (75%). There’s a rise in AI search too, with 4% of respondents saying they use it for research (compared to 0% in 2023), and in the 18-35 age group, that goes up to 17%, although it’s worth referencing the fact it’s likely people don’t consider Google as AI in this case.
