There's something both sad and hilarious about Innie Dylan being like 'I'm the one in this office who has all the sex parties and who Ms Casey clearly fancies, also I am clearly the MILF magnet on the outside' while his Outie seems to have a good stable relationship with his wife; meanwhile Innie Mark is the ultimate magnet for Weird Women With Issues (I don't think it's romantic/sexual for Cobel but still) while Outie Mark just wants to be left alone and have his dead wife back.

I'm starting to think that maybe outie irving sees his innie in a similar way that helena does, ie. a tool he can use to further his own ends. he's clearly got a plan, and he chose to become severed to advance that plan somehow. is he going to be shocked or even angry to find out his innie has spent the last 3 years worshipping the company he's been trying to infiltrate from the outside? he literally created his innie for the purpose of bringing down lumon, and you're telling him he's actually the MDR hall monitor and lumon's biggest cheerleader?? will he freak out if he finds out he's been down there falling in love and getting his heart broken and wanting to LEAVE because of it instead of trying to find the testing floor hallway? innie irv's reaction to breaking out is like the total opposite of what his outie would have wanted if you ask me based on how he immediately goes to tell whoever he's working with that his innie got the "message" (saw the paintings) and that probably means to expect forward movement in whatever their plans are, and instead of pursuing it innie irv wants to leave the severed floor forever. what would outie irv's reaction be if dylan had let him walk out into that stairwell. would he have walked right back in like helena did on her first day?

obsessed with the Helena and Irving parallel and what it says about the aspects of our identity we think are fundamental (but aren't)...

Like Outie Irving assumes his Innie is just as radically anti-Lumon as he is. He assumes his hatred of Lumon is something ingrained in his personality! That's why he stays up at night drinking coffee and making paintings, because he hopes that when his innie dreams about the testing floor, he'll say "okay bet" and start exploring. That's what Outie Irving would do, after all. But he miscalculated! His hatred of Lumon isn't inherent--- his desire for meaning and art and spirituality is inherent. That's what his hatred for Lumon is built on. But in a world where there's no meaning outside of Lumon propaganda, of COURSE his innie would become ridiculously devoted to the company.

And Helena!! She is the corporation, that's her whole identity. She presumably assumed that Helly would be just as pro-Lumon as she is. But she miscalculated too! Her devotion to the company isn't inherent, her headstrong and entitled nature is what's inherent! And in a world where she's denied any agency whatsoever, that manifests as rebellion.

It's the same dynamic flipped on its head. They both sent their innies in there with opposite intentions--- one to take down the company, one feed the company's expansion--- only to realize that rebellion and devotion aren't inherent characteristics. Their innies have become the exact opposite of their outie selves, while still being exactly the same!! Because even though your personality is inherent, the values you hold are determined circumstantially. OUGH IT'S SO GOOD.

mr milchick character of all time. simultaneously so fucking funny and yet deeply menacing. you'll have to leave the balloons outside so they don't distract you. the way he enunciated throuple. as a non-severed man he'll have to live with that for the rest of his life 😔 the way he looks at the innies sometimes with this cold almost-disgust. if you take the name of the room at face value, yes :) his rage stare at the welcome screen of his computer that IT still hasn't updated.

can you imagine what it must be like to be mark s. you JUST experienced life outside of lumon for the first time and you met your outie’s friends and family and also your favorite author and you learned your boss is spying on you and you just realized your colleague is your supposedly dead wife and you’re also overwhelmed because that is more people than you’ve EVER seen in your life and suddenly you’re in hell again and everyone you know and trust is gone and you’re frantic to find the only people you do know and you’re terrified you won’t see them again and then you find they’ve been replaced by three strangers. like what the fuck.

Whether it's Helena or Cobel or whoever else they choose next time, they always have to put the blame on 'bad individuals', so there's never any criticism of the structure of the company itself or the inherent workings of capitalism. this show absolutely gets it.

I am fascinated by Helena's apology. the whole "innies blow the whistle", public faces of severance reform, it's been five months stuff was so obviously fake, but now juxtaposing it with Helena's actual public response and how quickly they scrambled to cover up and do damage control is wild. the lie that Helena got drunk and had an outburst she thought was funny at the time, trying to humanize her but SIMULTANEOUSLY refusing to throw Lumon as a company under the bus, with her carefully specifying she was using a non-Lumon rash medication at the time?? and that was the reason her "drunken" state was so severe??? she was the propaganda tool to show that severance is desirable, attractive to the company's wealthy heiress. now she's a propaganda tool as a regular, relatable, flawed person who makes mistakes, just like you. but not the company, no - Helena might make mistakes, but rest assured, Lumon doesn't.
