The Case of Socrates
How is it possible that a basically good person who preached a set of values and beliefs about truth, wisdom and good governance was accused and put to death?
It is possible for a good person who teaches values and beliefs related to the truth, wisdom and good governance to be killed if he or she is contradicting the common belief of society itself. Higher ups consider this sometimes as a threat to the system of society and its foundation which is why they eliminate such individuals.
Is it possible that politics plays a role in how the good and truth are ultimately defined and lived?
Yes it is indeed possible that politics plays a role in how the good and truth is defined in society for the government itself sets the rules for the citizens to follow and decides which is ethical from not. If one defies it consequences are prepared for such violation.
Define the notion of âvirtueâ. Which are important virtues?
Virtue is a moral habit that eventually becomes a value as you apply it in your everyday life. Some important values are appreciation, belief in others, caring, commitment, compassion, cooperation, courtesy, dedication, devotion, effort, forgiveness, honesty, gratitude, friendship, honesty and hope.
Describe âmoral relativismâ.
Moral relativism is the view of right and wrong which is only appropriate for a particular scenario whether it be cultural or historical aspect of life.
Formulate resolutions regarding knowing the truth, doing that is good, and avoiding evil.
We as human beings should be able to analyze which is the right thing to do. Donât let your feelings blind your judgement for one must maintain composure, an open heart and mind no matter what the situation might be.

Rags2Richesâ main vision and mission was to enhance the livelihood outcomes of the poor. It wanted to help the women of Payatas (one of the biggest dumpsites of the Philippines) to earn more and live more dignified lives.
What method did the business employ in order to help in poverty alleviation?
The business use scraps for the women of Payatas to weave and turn it into various items like multi-colored doormats, rags, and rugs that can be used in Filipino homes.
Is it possible for a business enterprise to fulfill a social function (such as help reduce poverty) and at the same time earn profit? Explain your answer based on the business model of Rags2Riches.
Yes it is possible for a business to achieve a social function and gain profit at the same time if everyone would be resourceful and innovative like the Rags2Riches did with their products which were just scraps from the beginning.
Do you know of any other enterprise in the Philippines that has achieved what Rags2Riches has achieved, i.e., serve a social function and, at the same time, make money? If so, describe that nature or operations of that enterprise?
Recreate Philippines has a somewhat similar concept with Rags2Riches but instead of women, the children in their community contributed into making recycled materials to different beautiful products which also helped them and other Filipino children have a better future.

âGlobalization: A Friend or a Foe?â
âGlobalization has changed and influenced peopleâs livesâ. In what way?
It has improved the interaction between people through international when it comes to money, ideas and culture of different countries. The world undeniably is truly become connected. Â
âThrough globalization. there is better access to better products from different countriesâ. What are those better products? Do you agree?
International trade has expanded across the globe and has improved the products and services. Some of the products are fast foods like KFC, Starbucks, Coke and Mcdonalds and its promoted through the use of various medias.
âGlobalization promotes understanding and good will among different countries.â How?
Globalization promotes understanding and good will among different countries we are able to connect through trades and other goods which stabilized the relationship of the every nation around the world.
âGlobal market may lead to the loss of cultural identity as Western ideas are always imposed upon the Eastern thoughts.â Do you agree? Why? Why not?
Yes I do agree that global market may lead to loss of cultural identity because due to international trade small businesses are affected by known brands from outside the country.
âGlobalization can increase the spread of communicable disease and cause social degenerationâ. has this happened? How?
It can increase the probability of having communicable diseases and cause of social degeneration through transportation illegal products which could direly affect the other countries. One example is contaminated goods sold in markets which may affect the citizens themselves.
âCompanies face much greater competition because of globalization putting smaller companies at a disadvantage as they do not have resources to compete at global scaleâ. Has this been happening? How?
Smaller companies are at a disadvantage due to how other countries patronize international products. Due to this local companies are not given the right attention they needed thus the outcome is quite drastic.
âEconomic depression in one country can trigger adverse reaction across the globeâ. How?
Through this it can indeed trigger an adverse reaction across the globe due to the disruption of the normal cycle of business and money inside the country.
âDeveloped countries can stifle the development of underdeveloped countries because of globalization.â How? Why do you think it could happen?Â
Most countries or rather the developed ones are able to enhance underdeveloped countries because of globalization due to the fact that they are able to balance their trades on the outside and production when it comes to their locals as well unlike others who only entertain the international goods.
Is globalization a friend or a foe? Why does this video claim that globalization would only plant roots of problems in the future?
Globalization for me is both because it depends on how the country practices it. The video claims that it will cause problems because of how it could affect the country itself as they apply it in their daily living.

Breakthrough
I see myself as a small sphere of energy awaiting to expand and bloom in the battle field thus I will do my best to enhance myself through modern technologies of today. One of the many ways of doing this is by exposing myself to information and other mediums which will aid me to develop not only my knowledge and skills but myself as a whole. A few examples would be studying the different tools and functions used in digital art or even the basic moves in volleyball because to be honest I still need a lot of practice.

Understanding Social Networks
Bond as one
There are two kinds of networks and these are the neural and the social networks. The first one which is the neural network is somehow related to a computer system but it is modeled within the human brain and the nervous system while the social network is more on the interaction between other people either in person or through various mediums such as the Internet.
Purpose of all
Everyone has a specific role to play in this world and it has been shown in the selection âThe Story of the Rainbowâ wherein every color boast about their functions and compared whoâs the best of them all but in the end God said that each of them are special, unique and different which is why He loves them all. This is also similar for our biodiversity because one cannot live without the other organism.Â
Telecom
Telecommunication has already become a necessity for everyone, a bridge to reach out others. The key is in the palm of our hands and is also a lifeline in a way when it comes to the needs of the people like healthcare, education, economic opportunity, political freedom, and creative expression.
Vitality
From the beginning of time people have discovered ways to move their machineries and inventions through coal which lasted for 100 years have used different forms of oil and gas which is removed from underground.Years have passed and various ways of creating energy have arise such as nuclear energy, natural gas, solar power, wind power, hydrogen, biomass or coal but in the end the energy inside oil is far greater than any other available sources.
Modernization
As the world becomes more advanced, company production and advertisements also find ways to catch up in this fast paced change. Through the development, every individual will keep moving forward but will always learn from the old and combine it with new methods used in this high tech and modernized era.

Digital Domain
On digital structural change. (Effects on daily social and economic lives people engage in more interactively)
As an individual I get more exposed to the modern technologies nowadays and receive vast numbers of information through it like what is the latest news and so on. Being a millenial I could freely interact with others through digital spaces and participate in various activities like joining in a group or guild inside a game to ensure the rate of success when fighting a strong opponent.
On corporate social media. (More social networks for communications and information flow)
Overloading of data or information is definitely inevitable especially knowing how big social media can be. I admit that Iâm truly a person who likes discovering new things which why I tend to have a lot of time when it comes to using the social media for it contains whatâs the most trending music, videos and other things may pique my interest.
On open innovation. (New form of participation gives rise to new ways of doing things. Classic values are broken and have become modernized with new strategies.)
Various networks and companies tend to compete with each other to get the attention of the users in order for them to use that specific app or website due to its features. One example is the story feature on Snapchat which now is used by Facebook and Instagram wherein you can see whatâs happening in your friends place right now or where he or she is at the moment which only last for 24 hours.
On open government. (Collaboration between the government and citizens emerges. Democracy becomes more transparent and active.)
The government uses the internet specifically the different social networks in it to serve as a medium to connect to all of its citizens. By doing this the people are given the freedom of speech of what they think about the governmentâs services. Another example of freedom is the right of every individual to vote the president that they want to govern their country.
On open access. (More access to scientific information enhances knowledge quickly.)
I for one do agree that having a free access to the cyber space is indeed a beneficial thing. The reason is that you are able to get the information you need in just one click. This is helpful especially when you want to improve yourself like learning to play the guitar or maybe searching a recipe on how to cook a Lasagna and more.
On open and free culture. (With more virtual forums and interactions, structural plans and blueprints are accessible and adaptable.)
People are encouraged to participate in various groups in todayâs modern era. Few examples could an online contest between digital artist or perhaps a live video wherein it could be an open forum for users to say their point of views to that specific topic. In this digital society people also use online transactions which makes things easier for the producer and the user like purchasing compositions or blueprints.

Critical Thinking Strategies
Research on various aspects of oil location and available amounts, the effects of oil on oil rich developing countries, oil as an international point of contention, and environment concerns. (S-23)
Venezuela - 298.4 Billion Barrels
With over 298 bbl of proven reserves, Venezuela is recognized as the country with the highest volume of proven oil reserves in the world today. This has been a rather recent distinction as, until the turn of the last decade, Saudi Arabia held that place by quite some distance.
Saudi Arabia - 268.3 Billion Barrels
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has for many decades been viewed as the modern state most iconic of oils equation to opulence and influence in global politics. Due to this schema, other than industry insiders in the energy sector, most are shocked to learn that Saudi Arabia is no longer the world's leader in terms of oil reserves.
These are one of the few known countries having various aspects of oil location and having large amounts nonetheless.
Share findings. What fields of study you have to pursue to learn about oil and its effects on people? (S-1)
The field of study that an individual must pursue to know this is geology which is the  earth science concerned with the solid Earth , the rocks of which it is composed, and the processes by which they change over time. Geology can also refer to the study of the solid features of any terrestrial planet or natural satellite.
Why is oil important to people? Would people have agreed with you in the 1600s? 1800s? 1900s? Find times in history where the importance of oil changed. Why did it change? (S-13)
Oil: lifeblood of the industrialized nations Oil has become the world's most important source of energy since the mid-1950â˛s. Its products underpin modern society, mainly supplying energy to power industry, heat homes and provide fuel for vehicles and airplanes to carry goods and people all over the world.
In fact, oil meets 97 per cent of the UK transport sector demand. In addition, it also benefits our lives in being vital to the production of many everyday essentials. Oilâs refined products are used to manufacture almost all chemical products, such as plastics, fertilizers, detergents, paints and even medicines, plus a whole host of other products that you might not expect.
Explore the significance of owning oil deposits. Consider Saudi Arabia. Would all Saudis agree about the importance of oil? Why oil is so important to Saudi Arabia? How has it affected their culture? Find other countries which have been affected by oil to that extent. Look at countries which have been affected by oil to that extent. Look at countries with a great deal of oil as well as those with very little oil. (S-17)
Our world would almost grind to a halt without oil. Factories would stop running. So would cars. Airplanes would be grounded. Tractors on the farm would sputter to a standstill and rust. And people's homes and offices, if heated by oil, would freeze in winter. Oil is used in many products. Here are just a few examples: farm fertilizers, plastic toys and other plastic goods, cosmetics, detergents, and nylon clothing. Even waxes for chewing gum are made from oil.Â
What reasons are there to lessen or end our dependence on oil? What reasons are there against doing so? What problem does use of oil cause? Who are affected? How? Who helped? Harmed? Who would be hurt if we shift to using other kinds of energy? How could everyoneâs need be met? How would you solve the problems caused by extensive use of oil? (S-25)
Drive a hybrid, electric, or clean energy vehicle. There are a lot of options these days and more will become available if demand increases. Not only will you be consuming less oil and reduce your carbon footprint, you will also save time and money. Walk, Bike or Take Public Transportation,if you usually drive to shops and restaurants that are close by, walk or bike instead. Youâll get some fresh air and exercise.
How has oil affected our foreign policy? Which oil-rich countries are our friends? Enemies? Neither? Why? How should we treat countries that supply us with oil? What if they cut off their supply of oil to us? (S-35)
First, as recognized by a wide range of officials ranging from President Bush and Alan Greenspan to Prince âAbd Allah and President Chavez energy is a strategic commodity. It is the lifeblood of our economic well being, fuels the troops that protect our homeland, provides essential services in growing our crops, heating and lighting our homes, transporting goods to market, moving local, regional, national and international commerce, making information transfer via the internet possible, and providing us with the quality of life and mobility that we have come to enjoy and expect.
This is not a new phenomenon. But for the past 25 years or so, global surplus conditions (relative to demand) â in the case of spare oil producing capacity, global refining capacity, and in this country, natural gas production and power generation â have produced complacency and masked the critical role which energy plays in our everyday lives. It is only now when we are faced with conditions that threaten its reliability, security and affordability that we begin to more fully appreciate its importance.
As a consequence, energy policy formulation in this and other countries over the last quarter century has been, at best, a tepid attempt at balancing conflicting or competing economic, environmental, and foreign policy objectives â along with local political concerns â rather than a serious attempt to secure sustainable supplies on a forward looking basis. That era may now be over.
What are other significant questions questions on the topic âoilâ? How could we further our research on it? (S-5)
The significance of the questions about oil is for us to be aware of how oil can affect the economy and the lives of other people who consume it. I can further research on it by reading more articles and watching news about it.

A Thread of Connection
Why do telecommunications matter?
Telecommunications are already a necessity in todayâs modern world. Through the smallest high tech trinket to the biggest everyone stays connected with one another, no matter how far you may be from someone. Large companies and organizations saw the positive outcome and it is the connection between others that changes other peoples lives.
Why do water, latrines and medicine matter?
Water, latrines and medicine are important in order to have a sanitary living and provide the basic needs of us humans. It is also to sustain our good health and welfare as well.
Which one is more important?
Despite water, latrines and medicine being one of the basic needs of an individual, telecommunication still stands out. The reason behind this is that through this we will be able to connect with almost everything if we ever need something like calling a doctor when yourâre sick and so much more.
