danmei novels by Priest(P大)

I’ve recently gotten into danmei novels and one author in particular caught my attention (and my heart!).

Priest (known in the fandom as pi/皮皮 and sweet/甜甜) is a Chinese web novel author known for her diverse genre of works, well-developed worlds, multi-dimensional and human characters, strong plots, and lack of explicit content. Her humor is on point - not juvenile nor dry - and the angst is even more delicious. Still, she doesn’t write bad endings. She always gives satisfying and logical conclusions, not leaving the readers empty or feeling frustrated. Her novels are all posted on jjwxc, and as of writing, she is the top author in the list.

Listed below are her novels that are being translated by several groups/individuals:

Guardian (镇魂/Zhenhun) translated by Rainbowse7en on Wattpad

- probably the most known novel right now in the non-CN fandom due to the web drama that aired last June - July 2018. - Modern fantasy/supernatural. A shameless but wise investigation chief, and a reserved but very passionate professor.

Sha Po Lang ( 杀破狼) translated by Northwest Flower on Wattpad

- within the CN fandom, this is her highest rated work. There are a total of three radio drama seasons, corresponding to the three books. A drama and a donghua will be produced in the near future. - Historical steampunk/wars. Very political and plot-heavy. The world building is commendable. The pairing have seven years age gap; a very capable, blind-deaf esteemed general and a gentle, intelligent prince.

Silent Reading (默读/Mo Du) translated by Ainushi Translations

- one of her more popular works. A donghua has been announced already. Radio drama is ongoing(also picked up by Ainushi!). A drama will be produced in the near future as well. - Modern mystery/detective story. A thuggish policeman and a flirtatious and nonchalant rich second-generation. 

The Defective ( 残次品/Can Ci Pin) translated by GPS Translations on Wattpad

- her longest work so far, and among the popular ones too. Also her most recent completed BL. Donghua will be produced in the near future. Radio drama is ongoing. - Futuristic mecha/sci-fi. “Humans are born from belief, die of belief, and reborn from the ashes of belief.” The one with the largest and most complex plot. Intense, splendid, breathtaking. Has much more to it than you’d expect. “In the bottom of the muck……I found my *lucida.”

Revitalization of Fuyao Sect(六爻/Liu Yao) translated by Blob Translations

- will have a donghua and a drama in the near future. - Xianxia; found family theme. A cultivation story about how a declining sect is restored by a narcissist, a troublemaker, a meanie, an idiot and a wimpy kid.

Through the Strait Gates( 过门/Guomen) translated by bleachedfish on Wattpad

-There’s a rumor that it’ll be published as an actual book in Taiwan(but no one’s sure) -One that focuses on commoners: people around me and you. Modern city, loads of angst. Bittersweet past memories mixed up with the current, the pain of the inability to overcome the harsh obstacle of what is called reality.

Faraway Wanderers ( 天涯客 /Tian Ya Ke) translated by Sparkling Water Translations 

- will have a drama in the near future. - Historical, Wuxia, Humor, Adventure. A tale about the former leader of a special organization served under royalty, now leaving his past life behind and unintentionally getting involved with the martial world

No Pollution, No Public Hazard (无污染、无公害/Wu Wuran, Wu Gonghai) translated by Barolaide

- will also have a drama in the near future - Josei, Wuxia. Rapid revenge whilst living a heroic story? These things didn’t exist. Everyone still had to pay back their home loans and credit card debts.

As you can see, she really has a diverse set of writing. I’m sure one of those would fit your tastes, even just the quality of her writing is worth checking out ^^

She has a lot more books written and many will be adapted to other forms of media. Will update this list if there are new translations in the future \o/

So, now that you've introduced Scum Villain to me and I've started reading it, could you explain what Heaven's Blessing is about?

i honestly haven’t finished it yet so my thoughts may not be too accurate whelp but here’s a quick summary of it:

no kidding that’s it hahaha but ok fine on a “more serious note”

- our MC is names Xie Lian (XL) and he used to be a prince of a very prosperous kingdom and he was so great he ascended to heaven but then stuff happened and he got cast out then he went up again and then out again AND BASICALLY THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM- everything that XL experienced during these 800 years of humbling/humiliating events will make you wanna wrap him in a burrito blanket and protect him from life- he has an “””obsessive””” cousin (??) who is seriously an ass to everything and everyone like he might even make MDZS’ XY look “””nice””” (ok that’s a lie, XY is his own trash)- XL is this idealistic fellow that honestly deserves so much better (tbh he reminds me somewhat of MDZS’ XXC - well except that he’s fckn alive and had a happy ending)- HE WORE A TRADITIONAL BRIDE ATTIRE AND CRUSHES HARD ON OUR ML’S PRETTY FINGERS/HANDS- now let’s go to ML whose name is Hua Cheng (HC) and he’s the demon/ghost king (the novel’s setting includes the heavens, the human realm, and the demon realm) - HC IS LITERALLY ALL MY AESTHETICS COMBINED (eye patch? check. side braid? check. smooth af? check.)- HC helps XL do stuff for the heavens bc ofc our ML is whipped like that- DID I MENTION HOW SMOOTH HE WAS??? SO DAMN SMOOTH ISTG (dice throwing scene hnnng) HC SHOULD TEACH MDZS’ LWJ AND SV’S LBH ON HOW TO PROPERLY WOO YOUR MC- THAT RED THREAD PART LIKE XL ISN’T THE ONLY ONE BLUSHING - I AM TOO (i told you, this ML is the smoothest)- they’re 100% flirting with each other but the most subtle and lowkey i have ever seen (shout out again to the two other couples lmaaao)- another alternative summary for this novel is: if my future partner isn’t hua cheng embodied in live flesh then what’s the point- ants there are a lot of ants on the pair’s scenes ajdakfjakf they’re so soft for each other - they’re the most mature and calmest couple out the three works of the author- ANGST ANGST ANGST (put mdzs ch78 and sv ch43 at least twice and mix them together)- if LBH did 5 years and LWJ did 13 years - HC HAD HUNDREDS OF YEARS AND NOW IM SOBBING AGAIN- HC has a flair for dramatics and XL always takes note how beautiful HC’s face is (he isn’t wrong) - the two others who’re XL’s followers (omg i forgot their names but i know i kept calling them MQ and FX - i love them and ugh i should seriously read this more properly) are also one of the best selling points of the novel >> HC is such an ass to them lmaaaao

What is scum villain? You mentioned it quite often already and I still don't know what it is 😂

*opens my powerpoint* IM GLAD YOU ASKED BC I WILL TAKE ANY EXCUSE TO TALK ABOUT IT 

- it’s the first work of mxtx (the author of mo dao zu shi)

- it has the cultivation theme as well so we still get long hair and pretty faces and sects

- the basic premise is that shen yuan (our mc + shou/uke) read this really long ass novel and he’s pissed tf off with how much plot holes it had and how the main villain named shen qinqiu is a badly written character bc of how much of a scum he was to the protagonist of the novel, luo binghe (and that he isn’t surprised with his gory torture at the hands of the protagonist in the end)

- BUT THEN shen yuan is implied to have died and is then transmigrated to the novel he hated and he becomes shen qingqiu aka the scum villain (so now shen yuan = shen qinqiu)

- okay from here onwards imma use the shortcuts sooo shen qinqiu is SQQ (the “teacher”/”shizun” of LBH; so like their sect has loads of divisions and he’s the master of one of it & specifically where LBH is under) and luo binghe is LBH (he’s the protagonist who supposedly had a harem of hundreds of women in the original novel)

- so bc SQQ is so scared the gory torture and death his character suffered, he resolved to be nice to the protagonist BUT he can’t do it easily bc there is this thing called the “system” (best character in the entire novel im still laughing) so the system is something like the one you see in games?? the one that says, “accept mission to gain blah blah points” basically like an AI but not really?? anyhow the only one that can hear it is SQQ

- anyhow SQQ does something that makes LBH fall in love with him (AND ISTG THE SYSTEM’S REACTION TO THAT IS GOLD)

- im not gonna say so much so you can enjoy it BUT THIS IS SO HILARIOUS

- SQQ has a cool facade 99% of the time but inside when he’s arguing with the system and complaining about life in general, he’s 100% in rage but only internally hahahaha

- LBH is super strong and overpowered like how protagonists are and he used to be a cute bun going all “shizun! shizun!” but then THAT THING happened and when he got back he’s all tall and hot and sexy now but still going “shizun!” shizun!” (only it’s darker hahahahaha) and he’s super possessive of his beloved shizun

- basically we should play a game where we take a shot every time LBH says “shizun” 

- MISUNDERSTANDINGS GALORE x1000 and usually i hate that trope but for them?? it super makes sense AND IT’S SO FUNNY

- this is more of a lighthearted and easy to read novel so nothing really deep but it’s super enjoyable for me

- THE EXTRAS ARE GOLD HAHAHAHA 

- you will learn that sex/making love = papapa

- PAPAPA TO SAVE THE WORLD (rip SQQ’s ass)

- i know i keep saying it’s funny but the story of original!SQQ is going to rip your heart ALSO there are uhh 3 (??) times i felt my heart clench on diff occasions (but don’t worry there are more funny parts)

- why you should read it: THE SYSTEM TROLLING TF OUT OF SQQ AND SQQ’S INTERNAL RAGE 24/7 AND STILL KEEPING A COOL FACADE + Liu Qingge (he’s the master/head of the division of their sect that are warriors so he’s like SQQ’s shidi) and Shan Qinghua (he’s the author of the original novel who also got transmigrated here) are amazingly funny characters too

Mo Dao Zu Shi is based on a Chinese BL/Slash web-novel, also adapted to a manhua. So it’s obvious that you will not find any Chinese animation in any of those sites (it would be great if someone started to translate all these beautiful stories in a more “massive”, and legal, way so more people could get to them).

It is just as difficult as to find “official” translations of Korean animations/manhwa.

Most of you should’ve already known about Mo Dao Zu Shi. Let me just get this straight: No words can express how much I adore this novel. Moxiang Tongxiu’s writing style and character designs hit me right in the feels. If you are just like me, you love Mo Dao Zu Shi and you want to explore her other works, here is a quick intro :)

In order of publication, presenting you:

1. 人渣反派自救系统 / The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System

Shen Yuan is reborn into a scum villain in a typical harem novel. His character is Lord Shen Qingqiu.

- An excellent starting point into System-based fantasy novel (what is System? Read to find out!).

2. 魔道祖师 / Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation

- I FREAKIN’ LOVE THIS.

- Epic story spanning across northern ancient China, involving taking down monsters, killing zombies, hunting ghosts, solving murder cases, training teenage cultivators, raising children (okay, maybe not that…) and so much more.

- Slowburn romance that is just perfect because it is, yes, so slowburn. And have I talked about how much I love the couple?

- Prepare tissues because it’s so gonna hurt.

- Excellent cast of supporting characters. (Jiang Cheng I love youuuuuu)

- The sheer amount of ambition from the author. She smoothly blends so many issues including politics, the grey area of morality, redemption, hatred and forgiveness into a beautiful romantic tale.

- What are you doing?!!! Just drop whatever you are doing and read this!!!

3. 天官赐福 / Heaven Official’s Blessing

Personal review:

- Even more epic than Mo Dao Zu Shi in terms of scale. Spanning across 3 realms - the Heaven, the Human World and the Underworld.

- Great blend of humour, mystery, war drama, and, beware, so much angst.

- A love story that took 800 years to unfold. 800 YEARS!!! As slowburn as Mo Dao Zu Shi, or probably worse. Ragpicker Crown Prince Heavenly God uke (yes, you read that right) x Powerful Rich Loyal Thick-skinned seme. What a combo.

- Also with those 800 years, you follow Xie Lian’s journey through the most remarkable ups and downs. What he goes through in 800 years is a humbling tale of the sort of person who has probably seen it all. Prepare tissues, if you must. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
