First I want to that you for taking the time to read this statement. My name is Joshua Davison and I am starting this campaign to help my girlfriend, Yuri Yamamoto, to get enough money to start graduate school The New School of Social Research in New York City this Janaury, 2018. She has been working towards this goal for almost two years now and is at the final step, tuition. Here you can read all about her journey in her own words. "My dream is to publish my magazine to raise awareness of freedom and rights for younger women especially in Asia. In order to accomplish it, I eager to study women's studies in the one of the developed countries in the world. I studied Fashion merchandising and Journalism in the states for a year as an undergraduate. While I was the, I observed so many things, like women should be able to decide how they live their lives and the education japanese children have received are very much biased based on biological sex. My experiences in America opened my eyes and encouraged me to work more on women’s studies in order to reduces the prejudice, which devalues women’s possibilities both in the society and family. It is sad to neglect the fact that the biological difference accepts our human rights to being prosecuted. When I graduated from undergraduate school I decided that I needed to educate myself more in Sociology/Women’s studies fields in order to improve my abilities as a professional writer and become well versed in the issues that affect women. There are a few important reasons why I want to study in America and not in Japan. Historically, America has been the home to progressive movements that seek to deal with sexual assault. Japan has struggled with many issues related to young girls such as sexual molestation, involvement of prostitution and adult industry by much young girls but is still increasing. For the first time since the crime of rape, which punished sex offenders by imprisonment with not less than 3 years, was established in 1900s. The term of the constitution revised to 5 years in 2017. However, preventative based solutions have not considered yet. Sexually education and resources are only accessed by those who are proactive in it. Secondly, American Media adopts diverse definitions of women’s identity. On the other hand, there are many young girls, such as pop idols, in Japanese media that do not utilize their voice to encourage girls to be themselves but instead pushes them to become guy's fantasy and property in order to get spoiled. I want to help girls to help feel right in themselves, no matter who they are with. Their life should not be influenced by neither their parents nor boyfriends’ expectation. I also comprehend that those issues that I mentioned above has been existed in the states as well. However, Feminism has been more supported by both community basis and politically in America. There are also quite a lot of activists from the various fields such as Michelle Obama, Princess Nokia, Shery Sandberg and so on. The New School for Social Research, which I have applied, is the one of the best schools in the field and the first school that taught women’s history. Moreover, what attracts me the most is that students of social research are able to take class from different departments such as fashion. Since my research would be a place where impacts of fashion industry and achievements of feminism are combined, this would be the best school for me. I got accepted at The New School for Social Research graduate program but I had to stay in Japan because I could not afford the tuition. I would need to pay $2,100 per credit and 12 credit per semester is required. I will also need pay extra fees such as books and health insurance. Therefore, I started saving money as much as I could working 42 hours in a week and Now, I have saved $9,500 within a year and half since I graduated. Even though I have obstacles to accomplish my objective, I want to proof that my voice is worth sharing. I need your little help starting my life in America and pursue my dream in the future. Thank you. https://www.gofundme.com/helping-yuri-go-to-grad-school

“My dream is to publish my magazine to raise awareness of freedom and rights for younger women especially in Asia. In order to accomplish it, I eager to study women’s studies in the one of the developed countries in the world.
