i forgot i had this blog for saving writing inspo/ advice but now that im in the process of writing a little novel i think it would be cool to document my progress! for the past couple of months, ive been thinking about writing a book about the fae because 1) i love that type of shit and 2) i think fantasy ya would be a cool introduction to writer life!

now i consume my daily share of adult romance fic but i dont think i could write any nsfw scenes (at least rn), which is why im choosing to write about a cute lil romance btwn two half fae young adults (for now >.>). with a lack of personal experience to draw from (cri) i think i have enough reading experience to know how to write heart fluttering- esque scenes or at least i hope i can emulate that.

so a little bit about the story so far: set in pre- modern world but post pangea so the divided masses of gondwana and laurasia. this is mostly because i want to create a foundation for perhaps a sequel in the same world but now set in the world as we know it (mm spoiler?). but i think it would be interesting to play with history and reflect it in the story. also i wanted some body of water to separate land and opted not to use pangea for reference. 

about the characters: h is a half fae girl names Monifa but goes by Ifa because the full moniker means “the fortunate one” originating from western africa (the southern continent where she is from) and she resents her birth. also she is born with an iron heart gifted by the fae, this will make sense later i think. still in the works of her characterization but i want her to be someone i would look up to as a kid/ teen. someone who inspires idk greatness(?) thats kind of cheesy but a healthy model figure. but with that i also want to write about her struggle and some realism in the process of becoming a strong leader. still brainstorming flaws and such

the H is also a half fae (but he doesn’t know that yet) boy called Finnian but goes by Finn and is inspired by Fionn mac Cumhaill-  an Irish mythical hunter-warrior. i drew some paralells with how i wanted Finn’s character (formerly Ezekiel/ Ez) and that irish warrior so i thought it would be better suiting. still, im kind of conflicted about finn as a name bc it sounds kind of...soft? and i dont intend him to be envisioned as a soft boi. but we’ll see it might grow on me or i might change it again. also still brainstorming a lot for him

but yea ive been slowly drafting and outlining this story for the past couple of months in quarantine and will keep writing as the mood hits me. i hope doing this blog can keep me accountable and i hope to share more as i go along!

how do they feel about themselves and how it affects their behaviour (i mean. you can’t tell me a character is shy then have them do things shy people wouldn’t do, like?????)

how do they feel about things they cannot control?

describing eye colors isn’t actually v helpful as a description??? talk about the makeup smeared on the left side, the lines under their eyes, the sloppily cut hair obscuring their eyes from view, how bloodshot or sunken they seem in the face, how wide they go at the slightest sound, how glassy and unblinking they seem, how they’re always darting away

all of that tells me a bit more about the character than whatever shade of gemstone they most resemble, seriously
