sumi thief fit redesign! Re-redesign? Anyway this time moreso based around the idea of her getting a “false” costume + persona when she first awakens in October and then a real one in 3rd semester (specifically Odette and Odile as personas instead of Cendrillon..) I kept a lot of elements of my last redesign because I liked it a lot but I did change things around still here and there

I reallyyyy like cendrillon’s design btw even tho the character doesn’t fit so I used that as a base for the new persona designs 👍

and here are the outfits and personas separate so it’s easier to see:

I have a separate post (or several?) that goes over why I chose Odette and Odile for Sumi instead of Cendrillon

time for the celeste patented baseless conjecture and projection except it doesn't make sense bc im typing this at 6:20am (except this is also very typical of me)

tho obviously a lot of sumire's survivor's guilt and love for her sister and wanting to achieve their shared dream -> leads to the events of p5r, i think she also struggles with the idea of success vs happiness

i.e. "if i was successful/good at gymnastics, i wouldn't feel this way. i don't necessarily 'need' happiness, i just need to be good"

because if she was just Good at gymnastics she wouldn't have her inferiority complex in the first place that inadvertently leads to kasumi's death

and also sort of conflating those two ideas -> "winning" = "happiness". i think growing up as a competitive athlete in particular you kinda have to hash that out with yourself, that those things aren't the same thing. but sumire i feel would have a lot of trouble w that bc shes constantly eclipsed by her sister

also somethign fun to think about: Was Kasumi Happy!!!!!!! sumire probably thinks about that a lot and probably assumes she is because she's so successful. of course she would be. right?

and i think sumire pre-meeting the pthieves etc she's totally willing to give it all up for 'success', to be a good gymnast, to finally achieve A Dream Of Some Sort. her sense of self is so weak that she relies on the idea of 'being a good gymnast' as 'i am happy' because she can't really define it otherwise

also the idea of "true happiness" as in you ARE happy, and you KNOW you are happy -> versus happiness as Looking like you are happy. because sure you can look like you're having a good time and fulfilled and content but that could really not be the case at all... and kind of weighing the differences. what's the difference really? does it matter at all, actually?

^ and additionally that's playing off of maruki's ideal world. a world that Very Much Looks like it's happy and Very ideal, although it's actually completely illogical and doomed. etc. a very superficial happiness etc.

also a little thing about the idea of body vs mind with sumire referring to her body as "you" and her mind, herself, her identity as "i" when thinking to herself. she will leave behind her physical body to become kasumi, therefore her phsyical body will "succeed/be happy" -> but, is that what sumire wants? this is a little vague FHSKJFHSDJK IF IT MAKES SENSE... BUT . THE INTENTION ISTHERE. I PROMISE
