I am pinning this image because I want you all to know that this blog is PRO-CHOICE, PRO-CIVIL RIGHTS, PRO- LGBTQ, and NOT CONSERVATIVE. I may come from the 20th century and I may be fond of nostalgia but I celebrate a progressive future where EVERYBODY is safe to express themselves, access healthcare, have enough food to eat, a safe place to live, a partner who loves them, and every child born is a dearly wanted child.
The “housewife” I hail is the woman who was caught between two worlds. She (and my mom was one of them) was raised to serve her husband and family and taught that joy would come from suppressing her own wants and needs. And when the Second Wave of feminism came around she watched from behind the shutters of her house as some of her sisters broke their chains and took off to find their bliss. But she was afraid to try for her own bliss. She lacked the education, the financial independence, and the confidence to do it herself. So she stuffed that pain down deep inside and used coping mechanisms (often unhealthy) to get by.
My generation watched our moms die slow, agonizing little deaths of the soul every day and, because things did change, we did not have to go down that road.
But I think of those ladies of that generation a lot and I feel for them. They were trying their best in a confusing time.
PS- FYI we go to December 1982 here because, for me, that was officially the end of the 70s. If you see anything that is past that date please clue me in. Exceptions are occasionally made and explanations will be given in those cases.
Thank you.
PPS- Sometimes you will get recipes.
