A new year is upon us, and with it new hopes… A time for looking forward, and a time for looking back. 2024 was a year of joy and a year of sadness. I was honored with an induction to the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame… lent my experience to a new online course at tonebase Double Bass… celebrated my 87th birthday… held another successful and memorable Birdland Jazz Club residency... and more. Yet we also saw my dear friend Russell Malone leave the concert far, far too soon. What 2025 will bring us remains to be seen– though www.RonCarterJazz.com is the first place to check-in about where YOU’LL be to see me next. As for my New Year’s Resolution… I think it shall be to play more bass, as there is still much to be done in the pursuit of finding THOSE notes ;) Happy New Year, ladies and gents… Enjoy your 2025.

"I think music is the best proof, that people have one thing in common, no matter where they live, no matter what language they speak."
–President Jimmy Carter, 1924-2024
Photo: In 1978, President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn brought jazz to the White House, hosting an unforgettable concert to mark the 25th anniversary of the Newport Jazz Festival. Legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Mary Lou Williams, Max Roach and Herbie Hancock took the stage. Guests enjoyed Jambalaya and Southern hospitality, a nod to jazz’s rich cultural roots. This is a picture of an original menu of the event.
