How To Remain Active While Living With Kidney Disease
The kidneys are two fist-sized organs that are situated on either side of the spine at the base of the rib cage. They perform a variety of duties.
Most importantly, they purge your blood of pollutants, excess water, and waste products. These wastes are kept in your bladder and then expelled by urine. The pH, salt, and potassium levels in your body are also regulated by your kidneys. They also produce hormones that regulate blood pressure and the production of red blood cells.

The Different Types of Bone Marrow Transplants and the Risks Involved
Every year, thousands of people with blood diseases come from different places in India to have bone marrow transplants in Delhi NCR to survive. A bone marrow transplant can save your life if you have one of the many types of blood cancers that threaten to take over your body, but this process isn’t without its serious risks and complications. A bone marrow transplant is a procedure to replace diseased or damaged bone marrow with healthy stem cells from a donor. There are two types: allogeneic (transplanting cells from another person) and autologous (transplanting one’s cells). The process involves removing stem cells from the donor’s bone marrow, processing them, injecting them into the patient’s bloodstream, then reintroducing them into the patient’s bones where they will hopefully take hold.
Allogeneic VS Autologous
Allogeneic transplants are when cells from a donor other than you are given to you. Autologous transplants are when your cells are harvested, treated, and then given back to you. The main difference is that autologous transplants reduce your risk of graft-versus-host disease or GVHD. GVHD is a complication that can occur after an allogeneic transplant where your new blood cells attack your body’s organs. An autologous transplant is used to treat diseases like leukemia or lymphoma. However, autologous transplants come with their risks such as a higher incidence of acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease or GVHD. These complications can be life-threatening so they should be discussed in detail with your doctor before undergoing treatment. You will also need to take immunosuppressant medications for the rest of your life to minimize these risks. If you’re considering receiving an autologous transplant, it’s important to understand how this may affect any future pregnancies. An allogeneic transplant does not affect future pregnancies because it uses healthy cells from another person instead of your own. On the other hand, as mentioned above, if you receive an autologous transplant, you would have to remain on immunosuppressant drugs during pregnancy which may put both mom and baby at risk.
Aftercare and Recovery
After the transplant, your body will take a while to start producing new blood cells. The below guidelines should be followed during this time :
Avoid contact with persons having contagious diseases.
Stay away from strenuous exercise for up to one year after the transplant.
Don’t smoke or drink alcohol for at least two years following a bone marrow transplant.
Take medicines as prescribed by your doctor.
Practice good hygiene, such as washing your hands frequently, especially after using public restrooms and before eating food.
Have regular dental checkups and cleanings because reduced immunity may make it easier for bacteria to accumulate in your mouth and lead to gum disease (gingivitis).
You’ll need periodic transfusions of red blood cells, platelets, and/or white blood cells. Make sure that your doctor knows about any allergies or sensitivities that you might have so he can avoid them when prescribing medications.
Be aware that some medications may not be safe during pregnancy so talk to your doctor if there’s a possibility that you might become pregnant during the period when you’re taking medication for complications related to a bone marrow transplant.
