i know we're all sick of self-care being a marketing tactic now, but i don't think a lot of us have any other concept of self-care beyond what companies have tried to sell us, so i thought i'd share my favorite self-care hand out

brought to you by how mad i just got at a Target ad

highlights of trick or treaters:

kid who took an eraser, tried to bite it, and put it back

little girl who told us she loved us after getting her treats

child who, when prompted to say "thank you" instead said a confident singular "halloween!"

vampire football player

one kid who so gravely misinterpreted the candy limit that we could do nothing but laugh as, instead of four things spread out from any of the buckets, she took four things. from several buckets. all at once.

one teenager who asked us how our night has been and when asked the same, took a look at the table and said "it just got a whole lot better" while rubbing his hands

kids are so funny

things you can do at any stage in life:

love yourself

have a fresh start

go back to school

recover

make new friends

fall in love

go to therapy

learn a skill

discover your passion

repair relationships

change the world

find a new hobby

be happy

it isn’t too late for you. you’ll be okay. there’s no time limit on happiness.

if you're waking up like me thinking "where do we even go from here?"

you:

build community & involve yourself locally

learn self sustainability skills

choose kindness

protect others & yourself

join or build a mutual aid group and/or network

find time for small joys (the arts, cooking a meal you love, spending time with loved ones, etc.)

Toddlers are so pure. She doesn’t understand that we help her with certain things because she’s little. She thinks that everyone just helps each other like that. So she tries to blow on my food and cut it up for me and tries to help me put on my shoes.
