Huge shoutout to @thebibliobox and @bloomsburyindia for this title that I read for the June box ! 💢THROWING SPARKS BY ABDO KHAL💢 The book is set in Jeddah traversing between the 'firepit' or the slum and the 'paradise' or the palace. The book is the perspective of Tariq who is a punisher in the palace. Lured by the mysterious life inside the walls of the palace, he is trapped in a life of sin, hate and conspiracy. It parallely shows the life in the slums, the various activities that are in no way pleasant and show the ugly side of this particular region. His life is maligned with hate throughout with a spiteful aunt, a loveless life, and a boss who despises him no end. It is a very real and personal account of Tariq while touching upon the lives of a few of his friends and family. It is in no way pleasant , but full of dirty details that have one cringing. It is not a way to defend himself or his choice, but as the blurb says - it aims to show the hypocrisy that exists behind the lives of the elite residents of this orthodox land. It is a shocking revelation of how lust , alcohol, other forms of addictions that are considered sins by the religion largely followed by that region are flamboyantly used and misused while they wear a mask of goodness on the outside. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and anyone who enjoys peek at different cultures will like it.

This picture encapsulates all the essentials you need in varied emergencies 😂😂.. While I've never used a fire extinguisher, I sure have used books and coffee to combat the mayhem in life! . . So I asked the Barista for the strongest coffee and she suggested this caramel topped ( with yummy pretzels and pathetic caramel popcorn on top) Irish coffee!!! Last year, I read this book and I wonder why I did not review it ! Anyhow, here is a short review of it and the full review can be read by clicking on the link in the bio. . . Ten years ago, the town’s fair is in full swing. It is here that Nic has a row with her brother. It is this very night that her childhood friend, Corinne goes missing- never to be found.Cutting into the present Nic is back as her brother plans to sell their family home and her father, who seems to barely remember anything has strong resilience to it. This time around yet another girl goes missing. It is the girlfriend of Tyler’s, who also happens to be their only alibi to the case of Corinne going missing. Are both these events related? Tyler and Nic are in the loop once again, more entangled ends, more secrets. The book demands all your attention (at least that was the case with me!). It is an intricately woven web of secrets and intentionally left voids that will drive you over the edge coaxing you to read the book as quickly as possible. The genius of the Author lies in the fact that there are too many entangled secrets that are very well fabricated to make a fine read. Throughout the book you are constantly guessing what happens next (or rather, what has already passed-as it is a reverse narrative) but you are surely going to be thrown off your track with what the book has in store for you. Overall, I quite enjoyed this book and all you mystery lovers are sure to enjoy it!

💎THE STORY OF THE OTHER WISE MAN💎 this is short story of Artaban, and his journey to meet the baby born to Joseph. He is a priest of Magi, and when the prophecy is made that the Holy Prince is born he embarks on the journey to meet him. Having sold his possessions, he takes on this journey with three gems with him. Along the way he is encountered with many obstructions. Can he meet his goal ? Is he worthy of it ? It is a beautifully written short story, and the poetic prose is simply mesmerizing. It isn't a religious book in any way but is based around it. It is a very soul touching book that reminds one to hold on to faith and to do good no matter what. It is made for a perfect read in this holy month, and yes, you could say this is based around Christinanity. So what ? On the onset, it did not seem like a book that would surprise me, but boy did it? Julie is the one with a certain darkness about her and Reba is the demure simple girl...but as we go along, the book took unexpected turns that kept me glued ! The characters that I felt were not significant painted the story is an intriguing shade. The character development, connection and influence of events is really the highlight of the book. I really loved how the essence of the town is involved at every step, and how it all culminates. Over all, it is one of those books that I did not expect to enjoy as much as I did ! . .
