The final version of the Isadora map for my final piece. This takes the footage and the live video and then outputs it as a stream, projection and to the screen each one in a different way. OBS is then used to control the stream and output it to twitch/ YouTube. What makes it all so interesting within the context of my work is that at each point the viewer is unaware they are being recorded and watched. They are both seen on the screen and on an online video accessible to all.

The addition of a person exploring the work gives a sense of how it should be viewed. They explore the work both physically and visually as they move around and watch the video. For me, the most interesting aspect of this is when they realise they have been recorded and their privacy no longer just belongs to them.
The work is in response to the theme of Freedom // Limitations, with a specific emphasis on the notion of public vs. private and CCTV. The piece consists of three significant elements which in turn are tied together.

Another element is added to the work as the external light falls on it and is through around the room. For me, this adds another area of interest as it further articulates the sense of no control. The light bounces around uncontrollably as it reflects off the tape.

The work is in response to the theme of Freedom // Limitations, with a specific emphasis on the notion of public vs. private and CCTV. The piece consists of three significant elements which in turn are tied together. The first of these being the physical installation. This consists of hanging VHS tape which has been written with the video being displayed (the second major element). The tape has several key functions. It represents unwound CCTV tape, which is a nod to surveillance and our ‘managed’ freedoms, with improvements in technology we are being constantly watched whether that’s our physical being or our internet lives. Secondarily the tape is a physical representation and a metaphor for our everchanging and evolving society. Like the tape within the piece, society is rewinding and spiralling out of control as we surrender more and more of our personal information to multinational companies, whether that is our location, our hobbies or our shopping habits.
The second major component of the work, but none the less just as important is the projection, video and live image. Within the installation, there is a projection of a video. The video was produced using found footage (including interviews/ hearings with Mark Zuckerberg, Ed Snowden, Ken Clarke and Christopher Wylie), videos of crowds/ groups of people and also British government surveillance legislation/ company privacy policies. The video seeks to provoke questions within the viewer: Who owns your information? Are you being watched and recorded? What does privacy mean to me?
The final component of the piece is the live video camera. As the viewer stands immersed in the space watching the video they appear within the projection. The aim of this is to provoke a reaction, this is then played back delayed, provoking a reaction to the reaction and so on. What makes this so effective and significant within the context of the piece is the fact that you are being recorded whilst watching a video about this very notion. In many ways, the aim is to leave the viewer with further questions and to some extent a feeling of discomfort as they were unaware that they were being filmed.
Secondarily to the main installation, there is old TV screen to the side of the work, this shows the two videos tied together. The TV completes the loop in terms of both physical and conceptual themes. The age of the TV references the tape whilst the TV itself acts as a monitor as a separate viewer looks into the space with those within it unaware that this is occurring. In addition to this, the space itself is being constantly streamed via OBS (and twitch), as a result anyone, anywhere could be watching adding to the further discomfort of the viewer as they are unaware as to who is watching.

Video component to major outcome. The video combines both found footage (Facebook, Cambridge Analytica and Ed Snowden) and recorded footage of crowds of people and privacy policies/ legislation.

Isadora map developed during my major outcome. Takes varies media, including the video and the webcam footage and combines them, controls when they appear, how they appear and allows a loop effect to be achieved.

Another experiment looking at combining a video with a live image. In this case, I’ve used Isadora to combine the videos and control their appearance, by this I mean, vary the opacity, control when elements appear and how they appear.

Stills from video exploring how it could be used as a medium to tie the themes of my project together. The video and its content ties in with the notion of a hidden figure, public vs. private and CCTV.

Experimenting with making a video collage as a component of my major outcome. I wanted to explore how this could be used to tie the themes of my project together. The video and its content ties in with the notion of a hidden figure, public vs. private and CCTV. Mark Zuckerberg talks about facebooks relationship with its users and there personal information/ data.
