MDDN241 - 3D Animation and Modelling 2
Project 1 - Frozen Moment
“This project will involve the student modelling a 3D object that will invoke the energy and appearance of motion captured within a static form. The form will be presented using a variety of angles, in order to highlight the shape and material qualities of the model. Students will derive the form of their model from either a naturally occurring or artificial type of movement. The model can represent either a single slice of time, or can incorporate the sum total of a range of time based on the precedent.“

Project 2 - Music Visualisation
“For this project you will create a music visualizer. For inspiration we will look at numerous examples of contemporary and historical works that interpret music visually. We will be investigating 3rd party tools for audio analysis and how this data can be used to drive dynamic visuals. You will have the freedom to explore different techniques and content to express your concept, but your goal is to create a compelling coherent piece where the audio and visuals inform and enhance one another.”

Project 1 - Skylines
“In this project you will use city skylines as a creative departure point for a generative sketch. Using cities with compelling skylines as inspiration you will design an algorithm to generate your own skylines. The skylines should be randomly generated, and the user should be able to generate a new skyline with a simple interaction and user interface.“

Project 2 - Virtually Still-Life
“Still-life has been a way to present symbolic meaning and describe the nature of life (and death) since the Middle Ages. Existing as both a high and low genre of art, still life is still very much relevant today as medium to describe and critique culture, identity, and modern life through the composition of inanimate objects. In this project we will take everyday objects from your daily life, digitally recreate them within Maya and create a 3D composition that communicates a visual narrative about yourself, your culture, your identity and/or the world around you.“

Project 1 - Weird Wellington
“Take the city we live, remix, re-contextualise it to create a digital image that transforms or reinforces the mood and tone of the space. Wellington is a rich source of interesting places, spaces and architectural anomalies - In this project you will explore, observe and document a space in Wellington. From this reference material you’ll generate, manipulate and modify a 3D scene – resolving the composition into a ‘virtual photograph’ of this new space.”
