"Huh-!" Jak felt his lungs deflate with Erol's boot over them and he grimaced. Of course it was Erol. Of all people he could run into here...
"Just touring the palace." He said lamely. Damn, Daxter probably would've come up with something better - Jak wasn't usually the one to talk. He then struggled to shove Erol's boot off him and get to his feet. His gun was still on his back and inaccessible to him without making an obvious grab for it.
"What're you doing here?"
The day was coiling down to its end. And, like every other day, it was one without a pinch of luck at catching Haven’s most wanted, Jak.
Erol had retired to the palace for the evening. He just wanted to sleep. Nothing else. Every day—every failure that passed by bore down on him like a sticky black tar that he couldn’t wash off. There must have been a way to get his hands on that infinitesimal freak before it was too late, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. He feared that he may be all out of ideas.
Fighting the urge to drag his feet down the hallway, Erol brought himself ever closer to the elevator that would carry him up to his quarters—when all of his problems came barreling into his chest and fell back on the floor before him.
Erol stumbled, and all he heard was a little “Oof—!” from none other than Jak himself—the very cause of Erol’s frequent migraines and aches and troubled sleep—he couldn’t shake the feeling that his luck had turned.
And suddenly—albeit his fatigue—Erol became an excited sort of angry. He stopped Jak from standing up by forcefully stepping on his chest.
“What the hell are you doing here,” he growled.

Infiltrating the palace was surprisingly easy for Jak. He jogged down a long hallway and turned where his map indicated. It was possible the KG were divided up to have more on the streets where they expected to find Jak and the Underground which resulted in less protecting the palace. Shooting them down from a distance and ducking around the security system was becoming a cakewalk.
He was getting closer to the files Torn had sent him after. Once they were destroyed the Baron would have no leads on Underground operatives. Jak only had to turn a few more corners until-
"Oof-!" The blond jogged right into someone and stumbled back, surprised just long enough that he didn't reach for his gun first.

Jak hesitated before answering - did she mean later or later-later like one of the Underground guys explained recently.
“My schedule’s pretty free…” He eyed her suspiciously.
---
“Oh!” Keira said, smiling a little. “Well, see, there’s this thing- a race, later today, and I have tickets. And… I was sort of wondering if you’d like to come with me? I know watching probably won’t be as exciting as actually racing but, um,” She faltered a little, “It could be fun.”
Wow, way to go, Keira, that’ll hook ‘im,
"Uh, sure I guess. When is it?" Jak recognized this as one of the situations the guys at the Underground mentioned and he nodded.

"The beginning of what?" Jak uncertainly followed Tess to her couch but thought twice about sitting down. He shook his head when she offered him cookies and just folded his arms.
"I'm fine, I'm just looking for Dax... But I haven't been around much and I wanted to check in on everyone." He realized why he came here in the first place and tried to add that on to his new goal of finding Daxter.
"Sorry about the, uh... that." He nodded back towards the doorway where Tess had tazed him. "I'm gonna get that checked out."
“Lost?” Jak repeated and frowned. He had no idea what the dark eco wanted but something was wrong, he had much more control over it ever since balancing it out with light eco so what happened?
“I’m fine, sorry I freaked out.” His lip curled in an automatic grimace at the word - Erol was forever attached to it and he hated it. But what had he come here for? … Probably Dax, that was a safe bet.
“Do you know where Daxter is?” Jak couldn’t quite remember if Tess said she was with him or not. “I’ve been really out of the loop.”

Don't taze me bro
gungoddess:
OOC: Human Tess
IC:
Tess chuckles and rubs the back of her neck, still a bit embarrassed as she nods to the first question.
“It’s something I got off the, uh, black market. But my purse was handy, and I didn’t think you’d appreciate some bullet holes,” Tess says.
She almost looks shocked at the suggestion of the latter one though and shakes her head.
“Oh no!” Tess said, “I think you were over reacting maybe. You didn’t do anything at first, until I sort of made a run for my purse and the door. I’m not even sure what you were planning on doing. You looked kind of lost.”
She ponders her own statement and amends it a bit.
“Angry, but lost?” she asks, “Anyway, I’m fine. I hope you’re okay though! I know these baby’s pack a wallop!”
She notes he seems to be standing all right on his own and doesn’t seem to have any trouble focusing on her.

Jak looked over as she put away the device and his eyebrows raised.
"Did you taze me?" He was astounded that Tess carried a tazer and had thought to use it on him. He took her hand and planted the other on the ground, using it to push himself back up to his feet. The tingling was receding and he took a step back from Tess, raising and lowering each foot to make sure he felt them then squeezing his hands closed and open.
"I went dark, huh..." The sudden realization of the incident struck him visibly; "Did I hurt you?" Jak stopped opening and closing his hands and looked at Tess seriously.

Don't taze me bro
“Jak! Jak?” Tess asks, “You didn’t pass out, did you?”
Tess is staring right into his face. She considers fiddling with his goggles, then thinks better of it. He’s calmed a lot, but he’s still kind of aggressive. Not that Tess doubts she could take him down in a fight. She has access to tranqs, after all.
Tess’ voice came to him slowly, his senses muted as if he was floating up to a water’s surface. When his brain finally kicked in and registered his name he flinched and tried to sit up, smacking his forehead into hers and sending him back onto the ground.
“Ah-” he lifted a hand with some effort and pushed it against his head. His fingertips tingled with more than just dark eco and Jak grimaced. It was getting worse, wasn’t it? He’d started having a few episodes where his dark side would lash out and as it happened with less and less warning, he started staying home and avoiding people. It felt pathetic to sit on the couch each day and try entertaining himself, ignoring the issues with the Baron, the gangs, and whatever other creepy crawlies were outside, but he made it through a month or so of isolation.
“Sorry… Tess…” Right, Tess. He’d gone out after a few days of no outbursts to try reconnecting with the Underground. He must’ve gone dark while visiting Tess… at least he trusted she could handle herself, even if that meant she’d shoot him.
Jak shook his head slowly to rub his head, his hand prickling now. “What’d you do?” He opened his eyes and lifted his hand enough to look at it. The dark eco zipped away already but his entire body still felt… weird.

There is a knock at your doorstep. You open the door, and what do you see?
It's good ol' Saint Erol, here to deliver you a gift! Why, it looks like...a blue award ribbon!
He mutters "Best make sure you wear this all around town, boy."
Merry Precursormas!
Jak takes an entire moment to realize just what the ribbon was for.
"You sure this isn't yours?"
