Thinking about really small differences between languages is crazy to me
Like animal sounds, the sound of rain, the word ‘boo’
I never ever would have thought those things change between languages

11 questions tag!
Ok so I got tagged by @amygdalalangblr! But the thing is is that I don’t have others to tag so I’ll just answer the questions! :D
What do you think about linguistics? I think it’s super cool! I love anything involving langauges :P
Do you prefer to handwrite notes or type them? Handwrite but I will type some stuff!!
What’s your least favourite subject? Math!
What do you like most about your native language? Dislike? Oh geez I’m learning three but I’ll go with my Swedish stuff because I’ve been studying that the longest. I love the sound of it? Like Swedish just sounds so cool to me? But I dislike all the goddang big words lol. Tho some are cool :P
What’s a cultural quirk you like from a country in your target language? The fact that everyone is like distant. :P You know what I mean? Like not really nonsocial but, nonsocial. :P I’m like that.
How elaborate are your notes? Not very? Enough for me to be able to learn!
Why did you decide to learn your (first) target language? Funny story, it’s because of a Swedish band. If you guys haven’t heard Ghost, Listen to them! :P
What sort of background music do you like? Classical or Ocarina of Time soundtrack
What sort of non-langblr hobby do you have? Art! I love drawing and writing and all that.
Would you wear a hat? Only one. That my late mother crocheted me. :)
Soup or stew? STEW :P

How to learn words
This is a guide on how to learn words “efficient”, what means in a bearable amount of time to get long lasting results. This is not a guide on how to learn 100 words in an hour. I already have experiences with that. I learnt about 40 words in French in 5 minutes for a test. What was the result? A very good mark. But after two days I forgot everything. So you see you have to make a difference between learning words for yourself and learning words for school.
You can learn in different ways. As a language learner you have to choose your own path. I can only show you some examples and you can pick one. I also suggest you to try different ways and decide afterwards based on the feeling you had while studying and on your results.
Recording method
Record the words and the translation
Do other activities
Listen to the intake while f.ex. cleaning the house
Pro:
You won’t really feel like studying something
You’ll learn passively
Contra:
Words don’t get even memorized from time to time
It takes time to pick out the words you don’t know
You’ll probably have to combine this method
Usage method
Build sentences with the words you’ve learnt.
Pro:
You can involve fresh learnt grammar.
Many people can learn better with usage.
You see where your knowledge gaps are.
Contra:
It’s time consuming
There is no guarantee that you’ll find sentences to remember every word
Word lists “Familiar method”
Take a word list and learn the words you have to learn. This is the method I am using and it works very well for me because I don’t forget as much like other because I REPEAT FREQUENTLY. How it works:
You take your word sheets (in my case 25 pages)
You go over the words you know/ might now
You mark the ones you nearly knew
You go over the sheets again and test yourself
After having finished that you go over the sheets again and mark words which sound more familiar and you think you’ll learn them fast
Take a look at those word, take some seconds and go on with the next words
Start again and test yourself
This continues until more and more words get familiar. I find this method very effective for myself because I don’t tend to forget as much as with the recording and I can listen to music on the same time.
Pro:
You don’t stress yourself out with very hard words
You decide which words you’d like to learn
You have faster progress than biting your teeths out on one single word
Negative:
Sometimes if your brain is on stand by it gets really hard to learn
It can get boring if only 3 words are left and they still don’t seem familiar
Those are only 3 method and there are a lot more, but for now I think the most people study this way. The biggest problem lies in my opinion on the repetition. You don’t have to repeat the whole set for the same time. You can also rush the words and if you have somewhere a total black out, THIS word you should repeat. Know that most “master techniques” for word learning are made to first create a “super brain” and than learn the words with this brain. Know also that no matter how much you’ve studied, even if it was 1 word, you’re closer to your dreams than you were before.
Some last Tips
Practice them frequently (Just because Bruce Lee did reach an amazing ability to kick doesn’t mean that he stopped training his kicks)
If your attitude is good towards your studies, it will be easier for you to study the words
Put some motivational music on before studying to prepare for the challenge
If you just can’t learn a word, try it tomorrow again

Reasons to learn German
you can take questioning your life choices even further with the 6 different words for why
forget a word? just make a new one!!!
so that you can then learn german dialects which will constantly make you cry / lose the will to live / ruin your life
for the quality tunes such as atemlos durch die nacht👌👌👌👌👌
to spend your nights trying to pronounce ch and r and losing all of your dignity in the process
prepositions that make no sense
you can make your own bullshit ‘in german there is a word for this very specific thing’ post
don’t feel like people tell you that german is a violent language often enough? start learning it!!!
word order that will either be really easy for you to understand or the cause of all your nightmares from now on
to be able to read the absolute joy that is kafka
words that do what they say on the tin
anything can be an adjective if you try hard enough
sentences that are half a page long
bc it’s german!!!!! 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪

if you’re learning spanish russian french or german and don’t like using memrise or duolingo definitely try lingvist cause it’s free and they have an app and a website. it definitely focuses on vocab (in context) but relevant grammar notes pop up regularly and there’s a whole grammar section you can read through if you’re a complete beginner

I'm brand new to Swedish and really excited to learn but I want to make sure I have the pronunciations correct, do you happen to have/know of any good books or videos or resources in general that talk about pronunciation? Stuff on pronouncing the letters and the sounds each one makes in words would be super helpful if you knew of anything. Thanks a bunch!
hi! look at this ask i answered a couple of weeks ago, it has a bunch of links in it to youtube tutorials and such! i think the main key will be to hear the language as much as you can, though. even if you don’t understand a single word of what is being said, hearing the language is essential when learning pronunciation. here is a link to swedens official radio, Sveriges Radio. i usually have France Culture on in the background for a couple of hours while i paint in school lol, it’s helped me extremely much!
(just a side note about Sveriges Radio, here’s a link to my fav station, P2, (their main subjects are languages and classical music!!!))
best of luck! :)
