——— There’s a disconnected look on the boy’s face as he stands before the standpipe, unfocused eyes laid upon the heavy door. He’s heard the rumors, of course. People have drowned in the standpipe and he can practically hear his Auntie Greta’s voice in his ear telling him to steer clear or jump in. When she’d agreed to take in her nephew, she hadn’t agreed to take on his mental illnesses or his physical ones. 

So, she begrudgingly takes him to doctors, begrudgingly buys him the Prozac the doctors have prescribed, and hopes she doesn’t have to clean blood out of any more of his shirts. Hermann, to Greta Brown, is nothing but a frustrating burden. 

Hermann doesn’t realize he’s crossed the lush lawn, sweat forming on his brow due to the summer heat (but catching him out of a sweater or long sleeved shirt is about as rare as seeing an honest to god mythical creature), doesn’t realize his hand’s on the locked door (is it locked?) of the standpipe until a voice startles him. Startles him enough that he jumps and the very little amount of toast he’d forced down at breakfast with his medication very nearly makes a reappearance. 

“Wh-What?”

——— The AquaDom was obviously the correct choice. Watching Newt experience the massive aquarium and all of its’ inhabitants is almost more fascinating to Hermann than where they actually are. Its endearing, to say the least. As they make their way up to the top level, Hermann leans against the railing to take the pressure completely off of his left leg. He has a surprise in store for Newt but that will come at the end of their excursion. 

Apparently Hermann’s in for quite the surprise, as well, because he’s completely taken aback when a warm hand finds his, his eyes widen in shock for just a brief moment before he forces himself to relax. Well, as much as he can in a situation like this. “Are you enjoying it, then?”

Anyone who knows the mathematician beyond a professional sense knows that when it comes to the subject of food it can be rather difficult for Hermann to keep anything down. He’s been taking B12 shots since he was fifteen years old and the combination of his pain levels and medication can leave his stomach in utter turmoil. Miso soup is a nice, thoughtful touch. One that does not go unappreciated and one that earns the biologist a small smile. “I ah -- I’m not certain? Something light, I think.” Truth be told, Hermann adores sushi. He’s been to this restaurant before, actually, with his lab partner. Hermann hadn’t let Newton’s 30th birthday go by without notice. Even though they’d hardly been on the best of terms, he’d insisted on treating his former best friend to dinner. It’d had been a rather nice night. Sort of like this one is turning out to be. “I think I’ll let you pick. Everything that passes by looks about as appetizing as your kaiju samples.” He admits with that hint of humor that not many people understand. Newt seems to be the only one these days. “I know I’ll actually enjoy whatever you put before me. Just don’t let me look first.”

I’m not dead! Also, HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!! I’m going to try to make this blog more active! When I get paid I’m going to hunt someone out to commission a new blog theme & promo but, until then, I’ll be around selectively. I need to make a mains list and update my verses but you can expect more of Dr. Gottlieb around here. ♡ I love you all very much!
