“Cheer? As far as Cece is concerned, cheer is nonexistent.” Kitty scoffed. “I mean, what kind of captains would we be if we let a girl in her condition stay on the squad? Compete? It’s dangerous, we’d be completely neglecting her safety.” She held a hand to her chest, feigning concern, though not convincingly.
“It’s such a shame. I’ll miss having her as the filler part at the bottom of the pyramid.” Jade usually wasn’t any match for Kitty’s malice, though she did come pretty close. Usually her words were spoken in nonchalance, with her snark only delivered when she was really bothered enough. Kitty, however, seemed to thrive off of making people miserable — a trait Jade couldn’t necessarily say she hated. “But onto another pressing matter... who do you think the daddy is?”

“I almost feel bad for her.” Kitty said to her best friend, a slight pout on her face as she feigned sympathy. “I mean being pregnant in high school? I can’t even imagine trying to function while being that tragic.” @jadesbrooks
“C’mon, be nice Kitty. She’s already having a kid, isn’t that torture enough?” She turned to her best friend but remained quiet for another few seconds. “You’re right, it’s not. We should do something.” She tapped her index finger against her chin. “Starting with cheer.”

If there was one thing Jade took seriously, it was her cheerleading duties. Being captain alongside her best friend was nothing short of a dream, which was why she took the liberty of going over her newfound responsibilities during her spare period. Joanna’s absence was number one her list, and she made a point to meet Kitty at her locker so that they could mull over the issue together. “We may need to hold tryouts for a new cheerleader.” She pressed her side against the locker beside Kitty’s, her fingernails tapping along the metal. “Believe me, I’d like to keep the team as is, but the numbers are off now that we’re missing one. Do you think we could find someone light enough to throw around but short enough to not poke out from the back? Because I’d rather not have anyone come in and steal the limelight now that we’ve finally gotten it.” @kittyisking

Jade wasn’t necessarily thrilled to find out that her first assignment was a group project, and she was even more annoyed that it came with a partner. School work wasn’t necessarily her strong point, and that came as a choice more than anything else. After all, there was no way in hell she would ever be getting out of Dillion, and if she did it would have to be on a cheer scholarship (though that was an unlikely possibility too).
As her history teacher started to pair up students, Jade felt her stomach drop as she heard her name right after Lance’s. She didn’t even acknowledge the fact that they were now partners until the man left them all to their own devices. Then, she walked up to his desk coolly, already hating this assignment more than any of the others. “I think Mr. Lore has it out for me. I mean, what other reason would he have for pairing us up together? And don’t you dare call it fate.” She sat on top of his desk, her feet dangling off of the side. “Whatever. Us being paired together just means that you’re doing all of the work. You know that, right?” @lanceharriss

“Well now that’s a little hurtful, but I can see why you’d make that mistake, on account of neither of us really playing…ever. But we’re valued members of the team.” He argued, though even he didn’t believe that. He wasn’t even sure why he joined the team in the first place if he was being entirely honest. At her suggestion, Lance actually turned to see the group she was talking about. “You know as a Freshman I never got invited to any of these kinds of things.” He noted, smiling and waving at the girls who actually returned the gesture, before he turned his attention back to Jade. “So are you actually enjoying the party? Your taking advantage of the refreshments could go either way, so I don’t want to assume.”
“You would be if you were doing something worthwhile. But as far as I’m concerned, warming up the bleachers isn’t that.” Jade knew she was being harsh with Lance, but frankly, it was the only way she could be. If she gave him an inch of kindness, he would take a mile, and she didn’t need his constant harassment to get any worse than it already was. “You’re barely invited now, so I’m not surprised.” Jade frowned at the girls, who eventually went back cowering away in the corner. It was amazing what her death stare had the ability to do to people nowadays. “I’m enjoying myself. I usually am.” There was genuine care behind his question, which only made her that much more confused. “But that’s subject to change considering I haven’t found anyone to go home with yet. If you could point me in the direction of one of your single teammates, that would be lovely.”

“I almost thought for a second that you might be joking to make me mad and then I realized you don’t care enough for that.” Luke shrugged, his hands quickly finding the pockets of his letterman jacket. The Brooks family was a completely disjointed mess. Each of the kids dealt with their home life in different ways, which usually found them separated from one another. Luke had too much to worry about already without having to check in with his sisters and their warring personalities. “Have at it, but it’s still my obligation to knock out someone’s jaw if I hear them talking about you, so maybe try to be low key or something?”
“I don’t care for much concerning you.” Luke often felt like the odd one out in their family, his dynamic with both herself and Mack a seperate entity than what the two girls shared. Jade and Mack could shoot daggers at each other with ease, but with Luke, every insult felt like it had some sort of underlying sadness to it. That was why she often stayed out of his way, and was more prone to back and forth with her sister rather than him. “Knocking out your teammate’s jaw probably won’t earn you MVP for the season, Luke.” She chuckled, but only barely. “Me? Be lowkey? It’s like you don’t know me at all.” She took a small sip from her cup before lowering it down. “Now that I think about it, that’s probably right.”

“Doesn’t matter if they can spell when all the dealers are illiterate.” Mack argued, though she didn’t know why she even bothered with her younger sister. Instead she nodded, glancing towards the kitchen. “You coming? I know the words ‘shots’ is like a siren call for you, but I don’t want to assume your royal highness can be bothered right now.”
“Of course I’m coming. Your royal highness doesn’t want to be seen in public with you, so the kitchen is perfect.” Jade admitted with a raise of her brows, only to follow Mack into the other room. Allowing her sister to pour the shots, Jade tapped her nails against the counter impatiently as she waited. “Any reason why we’re not inviting Luke into this? I saw him before, and he seemed pretty happy for someone that usually has a six foot pole wedged up his ass. I think we should take advantage of that good mood while we can, sis.”

“Don’t even try to warn you or roofie you? I guess I don’t actually need that distinction since I wasn’t going to do either.” Lance’s eyes narrowed, more at himself than anything as he tried to figure out why it was he said the things he did. “My annoying you is a time honored tradition, I’d hate for you to think becoming a jock changed me so drastically.”
“Of course you’re not.” Jade sighed as she realized that she probably should have known better when it came to Lance. “You’re not a jock. You’re a water boy with too much time on his hands. Your only friend isn’t even the real QB. But nice try, kiddo.” Most of the time, Lance felt like a thorn in her side, and with the addition of alcohol and major crowds, those feelings were only made worse. “Why don’t you go bother someone a little more in you’re league? A lowly freshman, perhaps? There are a bunch of them in the corner over there. Go nuts.”

Walking over to a table designated for alcohol, Jade poured straight vodka into her empty cup, leaving no less than a drop in the bottle before setting it down. She would have taken it and walked away if it weren’t for Lance hovering beside her, as he usually did at some point during parties. “Someone already warned me about roofies in my drink, so don’t even try it.” Picking up her cup, she took a sip from it before eyeing him down. “Unless you’re here for another reason. Like to annoy the crap out of me perhaps?” @lanceharriss

“So are roofies.” Mack stated, matching her sister’s blunt tone with her hands finding their familiar place on her hips. She was the middle child and had fallen seamlessly into the mothering role among her siblings. God knew their actual mother wasn’t going to do it. “Like I’d want your nasty backwash brew, anyway.” She rolled her eyes, resisting the urge to smack the plastic cup out of the younger girl’s hand. “But a tequila shot sounds damn good right about now.”
“You think anyone at this party could be bothered to buy roofies? Most of them wouldn’t even know how to spell it.” Jade didn’t pay any mind to Mack’s judgment, knowing very well that she was going to receive it regardless of what she drank. “Then do us all a favor and go find one. I’m sure you’re a little less intense about breathing down people’s necks once you’re tipsy. We can only hope, right?” Noticing a couple of girls whispering behind her sister, Jade swallowed past the lump in her throat and resisted the urge to walk away immediately. “I think I saw a full bottle in the kitchen.”

“Ah come on, you know that’s my brand. I bring nothing but shame to the family name.” Luke joked darkly, taking a long drink from the cup in his hand. “I lost the ability to make my sisters smile in middle school, so that’s a job for someone else now.”
“Good to hear you’ve come to terms with it.” For the most part, people didn’t tend to associate Jade with the rest of her siblings, and as of right now, she was thankful for that. While Mack had a constant stick up her ass, Lucas was an understated mess that she didn’t have the patience to deal with. “If by someone else, do you mean one of your teammates? Because sure, I could defintely go for that.”

Mack had to take a second or two to recognize the name, then rolled her eyes. Her frown quickly grew as she watched her sister snatch and drink from a random cup. “You’re so twisted and that’s disgusting.” She pointed out. “Excuse me for existing, Jesus. I’m team manager for a reason, someone has to look out for these dumbasses. And no, that’s not why I came here. It’s a party, J, I’m here to, what’s the word…party?”
“Actually, it’s efficient.” Jade spoke bluntly, finishing off the drink in a desperate attempt to help herself in their conversation. God knows she wouldn’t be able to deal with it sober. “I think you lose all credibility with that title once we’re at a party. No one cares about anything you have to say here unless it involves the words ‘tequila’ and ‘shots’.” She raised her brows in surprise. “You should have told me that earlier. I would have thought about sharing.” She dangled her empty cup in her hand. “Except not really, because I don’t do that. Not with you.”

“You don’t need to be mothered, you need an exorcism.” Mack deadpanned back with a flat expression. “Of course I know that, that’s what I’m here for. Our team’s record isn’t even a record, it’s a shit show, so the more minimal we can keep the stupidity the better.”
“Lankester Merrin has better things to do with his time than deal with a tipsy cheerleader. And I’m only on my third drink, so chillax.” Grabbing a drink off of whoever had walked past her, she took a long gulp to claim it as her own. “It’s cute how you think you’re capable of controlling a hoard of dumbasses. I’m pretty sure they’re going to screw up the season with or without your help. Is that really why you came here?”

“Honestly I hate you boys. You can’t even stand up straight so no way in hell are you getting your car keys, man. Last thing we need this season is a player getting a DUI or paralyzed or some shit, you hear me?”
“Well, if you’re going to spend your night mothering someone, I’m glad it’s not me.” Jade raised her brows at her sister, the rest of her expression remaining neutral. “Besides, both of those things are bound to happen at some point anyways. Football players and stupidity go hand in hand. You of all people should know that.”

“Afraid I’m going to embarrass you in front of all your friends?” Luke asked, glancing around at there perimeter of empty space or people who weren’t paying any attention to them, then smirked back at her. “Try smiling once in a while, Jade, it’s good for you.”
“No. I’m embarrassed of you regardless of whether my friends are around. I just don’t need you putting more shame onto the family name, s’all.” Ignoring his grin, Jade continued to stare at him. “Give me a reason to and I’ll consider it.”

Luke cheered with the rest of the crowd in the kitchen as he let the guy he’d been helping to hold up down from his keg stand. “Man, you good?” He asked with a grin, clapping him on the shoulder and watching his stumble off. Luke leaned over to the person next to him, shaking his head in amusement. “Watch him, the kid is about two seconds away from a major up chuck situation.”
“I’m sure that’s all very exciting for you. I could only hope to achieve that much exhilaration in my short, meaningless life.” Jade crossed her arms over her chest, seemingly unimpressed with the show the boy had just put on. “You’re not going to get up there and do one for yourself, are you?”
