Hey everyone, are you ready for some Fun Ikesoren Theories???? Of course you are you’re reading the tag.

So as I’m sure all of you are aware, Soren’s RD (and POR, just purple instead of grey) design for the Sage class features a robe with long sleeves.

(Wow! It’s a boy!)

While it’s not a 100% perfect fit, as the official art and Soren’s model show the sleeves more squarish, the long portions of the sleeves cover more of the length of the sleeve (for lack of a better way of describing them), and the sleeves themselves are a little shorter, they greatly resemble the sleeves of a furisode.

(Modern furisode are absolutely beautiful btw.)

Those versed in traditional Japanese clothing will know that furisode today are the most formal sort of traditional kimono for young women. So why am I drawing a comparison between them and the robes of Soren, a man?

A lesser known fact is that, in feudal Japan, an adult man could wear a furisode. 

An adult man who wore a furisode did so to indicate that he was the lover of a samurai.

This is occasionally leaned into in Japanese media as a sort of fanservice-y method of implying two men are lovers. A good example would be the Nihon arc of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, in which Fai is shown wearing a furisode. (Fai is the heavily implied love interest of the other adult male lead Kurogane, who is a ninja from Nihon. Nihon is an AU fairy tale version of feudal Japan.)

(Fun fact: when I was searching for this page I read ahead and I had completely forgotten Fai punched Kurogane after this for saving his life. All my favorite cliches.)

So what’s my point? My point is that it’s a relatively well known trope in Japanese media that a furisode worn by a man indicates that he’s another man’s lover, and furthermore that said lover is a warrior. Typically, a sword fighter even.

Soren’s Sage outfits in both POR and RD could very well be influenced by this trope, with his robes being a more westernized adaptation of furisode with the sleeves, the distinguishing feature of the garment, being left intact.

Can you show me evidence on how Ike is canonically gay?

First there’s the extended Japanese version of PoR and RD, which emphasize the Soren/Ike relationship even more and has Ike clarify to Elincia that he isn’t interested in her and only sees her as his employer. His convos with Micaiah also rly cutely lampshade the parallel between Micaiah/Sothe and Ike/Soren.

The downside of the Japanese version is that it makes Ike’s and Soren’s relationship come across a bit like a stereotypical Seme/Uke thing to me imo (Soren is even more adoring of Ike in it and acts even more submissive towards him, while Ike acts more dominant and “manly” towards him) but it’s the source material so it counts. At least his relationship with Ranulf is on more equal grounds.

Second, there’s the paired endings Ike has with either Soren or Ranulf in RD that follows the same pattern other Lord romance endings prior to RD do. He ends up eloping with either one of them, never to be seen again.

The amount of work needed to unlock Ike’s ending with Soren and their infamous last convo is also worthy of note. You have to finish the game twice with an A support with Soren to get this ending. The conversation is even gayer in the Japanese version too, and thats saying something hahahaha

Aaaaand finally, look for the official Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn art book. There’s a translation by a blog named kantopia if I remember correctly? If not, then you should find it on Livejournal. On Ike’s info page, the designer writes that “Ike isn’t interested in the charms of women”.

Ike and Soren’s Base Conversation (Radiant Dawn)

It was Gallia. The place I lived with the sage. It was a small village in Gallia. A few beorc had settled there and… When the sage died… I, with my silent tongue, was about to die of hunger. To me, in that state, you were the only one who offered your hand. That’s why, only you are special to me.

I commissioned this from @rindartist​ because there needs to be more content for these two and her comic work is always amazing (Thank you for letting me rant to you about them bb <3)! Read from left to right. This is from the infamous why do I have to play through the game twice to unlock it conversation Ike and Soren have in the final chapter of Radiant Dawn (shown here). I gave the artist both the Japanese and English dialogue, so it uses a mix of both.

(A few notes: 1. Raise your hand if you also want to punch those laguz in the face; 2. I don’t think it was ever canonically stated when and where Soren and Ike reunited so that was just a guess! And 3. Intsys, I will sacrifice an organ for a Soren alt. please.)

Walking on quicksand is possible because it’s a non-newtonian fluid.Basically, there are lots and lots of sand particles suspended in water but as there are so many, when you step on it the water is forced out and it becomes a solid. If you waited in one spot then you would sink in.

So, Dr. Professor Historian Guy is standing next to the mummy’s sarcophagus, explaining something to the gang.

They’re in front of him with rapt attention, Fred standing in-between Daphne and Velma.

They all disappear in the closeup, though – as does the sarcophagus that was so close before it was overlapping his arm.

Cut to Daphne and Velma. They’re only a few inches apart, now that Fred’s miraculously disappeared, too.

Finally, Daphne disappears as well, vanishing from existence… just as Velma planned.

Her dark ritual complete, and the others thrown to the void, nothing can stop her now.

Nothing.
