Animal of the Day for November 7: Rough-Skinned Newt (Taricha granulosa)
These are a common amphibian in the Pacific Northwest, as well as the first animal of the day that I've seen in real life (in the wild). Despite their cute appearance, Rough-Skinned Newts are probably the most toxic animal in North America. Despite their lethal poison, Rough-Skinned Newts are regularly preyed upon by garter snakes, who are immune to the toxins.
