Bumpin’ Along

You were about five months into your pregnancy and sleeping was rough. Having a toddler to take care of on top of a very busy life and trying to remain physically active and healthy during your pregnancy was taking a toll on you. Your sleep schedule is all over the place, so you were very grateful for the midday naps your husband was begging you to take.

Jack stepped up a lot, as a partner he usually did but you were forever grateful when you guys decided to have a second child and he kicked it into a whole other level. Hazel being four years old and being an only child her entire life was in for a shock and you knew that this change was about to be drastic. You and Jack both tried to explain things to her as best as you could.

Hazels at that age where she was very curious about everything, on top of that she mimicked everything Jack does. She would often analyze the way he walked, the way he talked, and you noticed that she would pick up on everything. So, it wasn’t a shock to you when you realized that your husband being obsessed with your baby bump was something she copied too.

You had just woken up from you nap when you heard the door creak open, Jack checked on you a lot. “Need some water?”

“Please” you sat up in bed and he walked over to you with Hazel following.

“Good morning mommy” she giggled while crawling up into bed with you. You lifted your arm so she could cuddle your side. “Good afternoon Hazey” you responded with a kiss to her head.

Jack sat on the edge of the bed and handed you the water. He rubbed your round belly while you chugged it down. Hazel looked over at you and her dad and placed her hand on your belly too.

Jack just smiled knowing she was likely to do that.

“Are you hungry?” Jack leaned down and kissed your belly. “Mwahhh” he overdramatized the kiss.

“Very” you laughed and started to get out of bed and Hazel followed.

“What does the baby feel like eating?”

“I think the baby could go for pizza or chips and dip. Oh! Maybe some avocados….” You paused to think “everything sounds good right now.”

Jack laughed ”oh yeah?”

“I mean everything sounds good…to the baby” you teased.

Jack shook his head and laughed “whatever you want babe, I’ll go get it.”

You turned to your daughter “what should we eat for dinner Hazey?”

She looked at you and you can tell she wasn’t listening. “Mommy, can I kiss?”

“You want a kiss?” You only questioned it because she’s never asked that before.

Hazel reached out and poked your belly button making you giggle and making you belly bounce. “Oh! Yes baby, you can kiss my belly.”

Hazel turned to her dad and reached her hands up to him “help.”

Jack picked her up and hovered her over your belly so she could kiss it. “Mwahhh” Hazel made the same sound as her dad did making both you and Jack laugh.

When he put Hazel down you repeated the question “what do you want for dinner?“

“What does the baby want for dinner?” Hazel giggled.

You couldn’t help but laugh “it seems she will be copying your every move.”

Jack smiled proudly “yeah, I think so too.”
