Here I am sitting in a cafe 3831km from home
Its crazy. The old me wouldn't have ever believed that this is what my life would look like right now. And honestly, sometimes i can't either. Ive done a lot of changing and growing in the last couple years. Its not all been comfortable or pretty - and some parts were downright ugly. I've let go of a lot of things i thought i would carry around for the rest of my life. Its not that ive forgotten these things, but i've leanred to not let them have the control they once had over me.
what a relief.
ANYWAY. Enough about my -Not so heay, anymore - baggage...
This is where Im at right now. Right here and now. A cafe called WAYNE & FREDA located in a snoozy little seasonal town of Penticton in British Columbia. BC has always kinda made me feel like i was home- ever since the first time I came to this province in 2019. Something about those mountains.
I'm a travel nurse now. Whenever I say that I always feel my imposter syndrome flair up a bit. But this is my second contract - and my only source of income.. so i feel like its fair to call myself a travel nurse. Im traveling ... and a nurse. Go figure.
My first travel contract in Victoria was, lets just say an adjustment. I wouldnt consider it a total bust but in hindsight i hated it. I liked Victoria- but i did not enjoy the job.
Penticton is different - im finding that I really like the job, its probably the easiest nursing job ive ever had. But im finding that my struggle is when I have days off. Because this is a smaller, seasonal town there are a lot of things that are only open with limited hours, and has a real locals feel. Thats not a bad thing - but as a solo traveler with no friends im finding it to feel a bit lonelier vs the bigger city life that was Victoria.
I came out here to ski - and ski i have not. I was under the impression that ski season started earlier out here, but ive had to patiently wait. Apparently Big white opens at the end of November, so im planning to get at least one ski trip in before the end of this contract. I've officially resubmitted my contract to come back here in the new year so i can capitalize on skiing from Jan - March. FINGERCROSSED>
alright thats it for now
