The dingy lanes encircled by large buildings on either side has some stories to tell which in some 100 years ago has given luck to some Chinese wayfarers searching for livelihood. Yes, the tales of Cantonese Noodles which became our household name has started its journey from these lanes inhabited by some people from Cantonese mainland,China along with some from Shangdong, Hakka and Hupeh. These people are good in shoe making and carpentry.After suffering plights from the 1962 Sino War, these people still maintain their heritage as a mark of their culture trying through toughest times by saving their heritage from the clutches of real estate business. They still worship their forefathers, ancestors and their God though most of them has become multilingual by marrying nepali, assamese to get access to good schools.One of them still run a primary from its shadowy premises which doubles up as clubs or according to some maybe a place for illegal drugs supply. But still the famous food, culture, carpentry that the little they tried to showcase to the world is of wonder to people who visits them like me to know the city in depth and its roots and tolerance.
