Ivy stood in front of her mirror, her shorts probably shorter than they needed to be, and the shirt, given to her by River at their brunch date after they first met, tucked in at the front and a belt around her waist. The shirt covered the bottom of her shorts in the back, leaving plenty to the imagination for River when he was done with his race.
His race. Car racing, which had taken her a while to figure out. He’d made her swear she couldn’t look at the shirt until that morning, and she always stood by her word. So, she had stared at herself in the mirror and read the words a few times over before typing it in and seeing what it was. If Ivy was being honest, she was acting more against it than she really felt, solely because she wanted to act ‘hard to get’. But also, River was nice. And funny. He made her laugh, and the way he looked at her sometimes, it made her feel like she was the only girl in the world. She would give him shit, saying he’d look at every girl like that, but somewhere deep down, she sort of hoped he didn’t. It made her feel good. And pretty.
“You both knew about this and didn’t think to tell me?” Ivy walked into the living room, her eyes landing on Callie who was staring wide eyed at her as she was pouring herself a shot of some clear liquid. “Casey, Callie’s taking shots without us!” Walking over, Ivy grabbed herself a glass and held it to Callie, who rolled her eyes and poured herself a shot too. “You’re going with your long-time beau, Casey is going with her soulmate, and I’m going with the party boy who finds himself in all the magazines as the top bachelor in Florida. I deserve the shot more than you do.” Ivy winked before taking her shot and holding it out for another, wanting to feel the warmth in her stomach before they left. Looking again at Callie, she raised an eyebrow at the outfit and pursed her lips, “And I thought my shorts were short. Tell me, do you always wear the black dress with your boobs out on full show?”
Callie explained how she was a flag girl or whatever, something the track had contacted her about when they caught wind she was showing back up and Ivy could help but feel a little jealous. It was a hot outfit, and way better than the t-shirt and cowboy boots she was wearing. “Well, next time, why don’t you get all three of us a gig? You get to look hot, and we get to feel h—” Then Casey walked out, wearing a similar skintight dress and Ivy groaned, “You have got to be kidding me.”

“ouch ivy, you think i’m that shallow?” river said, putting a hand over his chest acting hurt. “i’m kind of a pro at…making people happy.” he grinned as she took her shots..only to learn that her dad is a literal billiards champion….granted he should’ve seen that coming but the pretty blonde distracted him majorly. “you’re joking…” he kind of coughed out, as she was taking a step back for his turn, he noticed that they were all tied up. “are you trying to sike me out now? already hustled me.” he breathed out, raising his eyebrow, before getting low to shoot his shot…though ivy being dangerously close to him was harder than he thought. “you really are distracting ivy.” he laughed, as she took the shot she had told him to make, and yet still made it in. “but i guess i’m better than you think. six on corner.” he managed to say as confidenltly, they had only a few balls left in play. so maybe he could hustle the hustler after all. “you know what, and let’s make this very interesting blondie….how about…50 on whoever wins the whole thing? though all already establish bets kept. you’re still gonna be the pretty cheerleader i see in the stands.”
ivy chuckled, as it made sense. he was a fun guy to be around, easy to flirt with and talk to, which she appreciated. she didn’t have to pretend who she was or act like someone else because he was unabashedly himself. “no joke, he was the championship in 1972 and... 1987 i think. took a break when i was born, got back in, won and retired officially. we share a last name if you want to look it up.” he’d have to figure out his last name, of course, but that was all the fun of it. raising an eyebrow at his proposition, she shrugged her shoulders. “50 bucks...” emphasizing on the bucks... she wasn’t about to give him 50 minutes of anything, and she was sure he could be sly enough to get away with that. lining up for her first shot, she mapped the table out... “and i’ll be the best damn cheerleader you’ve ever had.” she took one shot, then her second, and her final, cleaning up her balls and standing straight, turning to river. “sorry, bud, but how about we revisit an old bet? eight ball, corner pocket, i’ll buy you a drink and you owe me a kiss.” she gave him a wink before turning to her shot, knowing full well she could use his ball to assist, but what fun was that? plus she was a bit of a show-off, and river was fun to show off too. lining the cue tip to the bottom of the ball, she skipped it over his and into the black, watching as it gently rolled into the pocket. standing up straight, she set the stick down and held out her hands. “well, was that impressive enough for you, of did i hustle you too much?”

“don’t worry, it’s more…dangerous than that. but i’ll leave it for a surprise. heck i’ll even give you something to wear.” river thought back, he’s sure he had a couple of racing souvineer shirts in his room somewhere, with his number and name. but he perked up when she gave him a kiss on the cheek. “hmmm i think you missed…”he muttered as she got ready for her next shot, and now she was getting the ultimatiums. “sure i’ll do a girly brunch.” he quickly agreed as he knew that would get him out of owing anyone more money. “don’t worry i’ll buy you a mimosa.” he rolled his eyes as she lined up another shot…but this time she gave the same deals as him. he grinned, looking down at the blonde as she missed her shot…pretty sure on purpose. but hell, as she came over to give him the cue, he smiled and got really close to her. dangerously close. “you know if you wanted to kiss me just ask.” he said leaning into her face very closely, but didn’t kiss her, just smiled through his teeth and took the pool cue out of his hand. “hmm, that was close. maybe next time.” river laughed as he walked around her. she wanted to be a tease? he can play at that game. he lined up the shot, as ivy stood behind where he wanted to go. “okay, get your cute self out of the way you’re distracting.” he laughed as he fixed his shot. “okay, four on corner pocket, and you tell me one interesting thing about yourself.” and of course, he made the shot. that one he was sure to make.
“don’t tell me, a sparkly top with low rise jeans?” she teased before he agreed to brunch, and even mimosas, which she didn’t have to ask for. “look at you, learning about me so quickly. you know how to make a girl happy, i’m sure.” she laughed just as he got close to her, his nose brushing against hers as their breath twisted around itself in the air, her eyes fluttering close just as he pulled away. she hoped she was able to hide the shock and disappointment with an eye roll. “there’s the tease i eyed when we came in, about time.” ivy took a step to the side as he took his shot, laughing at his bet. “something interesting about me? hmmm...” she took a second to think, debating between something relevant and recent or something from her childhood that really gave him no further information. picking up her drink, she downed the rest of the liquid before setting it down and giving river a smile. “my father is a two-time world champion. in billiards.” it was always a big lead up, then a disappointing, but also weirdly cool and an odd thing to think about. it makes sense that there are championships, since there are always pool tournaments, but actually knowing someone who won money and sponsorships from a little game college students played was... intriguing. taking a step towards him, she eyed the table, seeing that they were nearly tied up again before back to river. “he taught me everything i know. sharking and all.” she gave him a wink before looking back at the table. “you should go for the 2, side pocket.”

to say he was a bit dumb struck was…..underrated. who exactly was this girl, how the hell was this girl? from the moment she grabbed his pool cue to then her knowing everything to say…river could tell he was in trouble. “uhh….yeah…” was all he could muster to say. as she hit the balls, already making three in. “wait..”he tried to say, but once again…nothing came out. and suddenly, five balls were in, and he owed them shots and money. “uhhh….i guess we’re solids.” was all he could muster to say as she dragged her finger along his six pack. he sat there, scratching his head, trying to figure out what happened and how he could get it pack. but even with theo making a fool of himself in the corner by laughing, he wasn’t going to let him down. no matter how hot she was, he was not going to make a fool of her. “okay okay fine.” he said walking up to the group once he gathered his thoughts. “teddy bear, go get their drinks will you? and get the beautiful beautiful blonde from last night her nachos. that’s what you said earlier, if i remember correctly?” river winked at him, before looking at ivy. “okay miss swindler, i see your game now.” he said grinning down at her, before reaching for the cue in her hands. “i assume you as a girl who likes a challenge. so let’s see how you do with this.” he said, lining up, his shot with one of the solid balls. “if i hit the 10 in the corner pocket, then you have to be my cheerleader next week. you’ll know what that means later.” he smirked at her, before lining himself up, and hitting the ball, going directly into the pocket. thankg god cause he didn’t know if that was actually gonna happen. “see, now this game is more fun.” he laughed, as he lined up another shot with the ball. “and i think i deserve a kiss if i get the 4 ball into the side pocket.” he said more greedily, as he took his shot…but this time missed. “hmmm.” he said standing back up. “okay, one out of two ain’t bad.”
Ivy smiled at the sock on River’s face. She got her game in, and that was all that mattered to her. hearing casey’s comment about timing, she rolled her eyes as river came up, excusing casey and theo and leaving them alone. casey was more than willing to leave, which wasn’t shocking. she’d found the man of her dreams, or whatever. she hadn’t seen casey this happy in a long time, though, so she wasn’t about ruin anything. turning back to river, laughing at his comment. “cheerleader? oh great, are you a coach of some sports team?” with her luck, he probably worked with callie at the university or played for some rec team. he made the shot though, and she shrugged before hearing his next proposition. a kiss. while she kept a good game face, she was slightly disappointed he had missed the shot. she wasn’t one to jump into anything, but it had been a while since any guy had taken interest in her. her best friends were 2 single blondes that were more outgoing than her. “don’t forget, i gave you one as well. so you almost tied with me!” ivy’s eyes darted to the bar, where casey and theo were still waiting, so ivy assumed this was going to be a onexone. “looks like it’s just you and me for now.” taking the cue, she took another step forward and kissed his cheek before leaning back, “maybe it’ll give you some motivation to keep up.” winking, she took a look at the table before going to best shot she had. “alright, i’ll play this game. if i hit the 13, brunch, tomorrow morning. if you’re free, of course.” she was sure he was going to tell her already, so it was a cheap way out, but she was gonna save the spicy if she made this in. lining it up, she tapped the ball into the pocket before realizing she hadn’t shot for another line up and didn’t have anything to go for now. “you’re right, this is way more fun. does that mean I don’t get $5 though?” she stuck her bottom lip out before lining up her next shot. “I’ll match, 11, corner, you owe me a kiss.” the shot wasn’t easy, and ivy missed it. walking around the table, she handed him the cue, “hmm, it was close. maybe next time.”

cryme-river:
river turned his eyebrow up, sounding just like one of the southern belles he would charm in tennessee, though he knew it was not a tennesee accent. he would have to get to the bottom of that later. “oh i’d never take advantage of a pretty girl like you darlin, but sounds like you can take care of yourself just fine.” he said with a wink. yeah he knew he would get this kiss first. he knew theo didn’t care for these new girls, only the one from last night, so he was a shoe in. soon her friend showed up not long after. the girl in black introduced herself as Ivy. Pretty little name. and the other girl seemed to be casey. just as river was going to introduce himself properly…casey had other ideas. the next thing he knew, casey and theo were making out right in the middle of the bar. his eyes widened as his mouth was left slightly open. “wait what the hell…” he pouted, trying to make sure he was seeing what he was right. “uhh yeah we sometimes call him teddy…” he started saying, when ivy suddenly mentioned bear. and that’s when it clicked in his head. “oh shit…” he said swiftly turning to ivy next to him. “your friend doesn’t happen to have a silk red dress that hugs all her curves lying around somewhere?” he asked panicking. but he knew he had lost already when theo said to cough up the cash. “man why is the universe against me?” he sighed, before going to his wallet and slipping a 20 over to theo. what in the odds the girl they talked about just seconds ago showed up? but soon they were starting a game. alright, time to shine with ivy, since casey was obviously not interested. “how about we make this a little more interesting…” river started before looking over at ivy, walking closer to her smaller frame. “you talk the talk just fine sweetheart, so i don’t need to go easy on you. how about whoever knocks the first ball in the hole, other team buys first round. an from then on, we’ll say, 5 dollars a ball? unless ya’ll ladies are too scared to win a bit of money.”
ivy couldn’t believe casey’s luck, but also, the girl needed it. she needed a good guy, and since river seemed to know what she was talking about, and knew casey’s dress, it meant teddy, theo, had been talking about her too. “red dress that hugs all her curves? it’s lying on her twin’s body tonight, but yeah, it exists. good to see a man who has an eye for fashion.” she looked back at theo and casey who, quite honestly, were fucking adorable. river mentioned interesting, and ivy had to hide her smile. right in her palm, he was. “interesting, how? it’s just pool.” just pool, if here father heard that, he would kill her. she didn’t get her talent from no where, here father was pretty good, well, pretty good to world critics of the game, but no one was asking. river took a step closer and ivy took it in full stride, giving him her classic puppy dog look. “well, i only have...” feigning to look in her wallet, shee shrugged, “i’ve got some spare change. sure. 5 a ball, first round, loser buys second round?” he said interesting, so she’ll make it interesting. hearing casey telling here to break, she gave her friend a smile and turned back to river, “if you insist, cas” leaning forward, she rested her hand on river’s chest, leaning in a little bit closer before she grabbed a pool stick. “sorry, you were standing in the way.” she gave a wink to the man before turning and picking up the cue ball. “now, if i remember correctly, since you boys racked, we break. i’m gonna say no slops, call your trick shots and call pocket on 8. sound fair?” she winked as casey before turning back to river, “interesting enough for you, cowboy?” setting up her shot, ivy lined it up and took her shot, watching the balls scatter over the table and the 2, 9 and 12 landing into pockets. “2 stripes and a solid, i hope you boys like nachos and tequila. and i do believe that will be... i’ll say $10, since you’re already paying for first round.” wearing a large grin, ivy lined up her next 2 shots, nailing the 15 perfectly in a long shot and tapping in the 10 into the same pocket. her next shot was a miss, but was defensive enough the shots wouldn’t be easy for the boys. walking over to river, she ran a finger down his chest slowly while biting her lip and looking into his eyes, “interesting enough for you? tequila soda, 1 lime. the bartender knows how to make it.” winking she turned and set her stick against the wall before wrapping her arm around casey’s neck and looked at theo, “if you need help remembering her drink, you can never go wrong with tequila, or wine, depending on how you want your night to end.”

river laughed at theo’s convincing, yet he was already striking out with the pool table just as well as he was with most women. “theodore, i would’ve been the charmer to get her name unlike certain people i know.” he laughed as he set the empty bottle on the table for the waitress to take. though something suddenly caught his attention, two blonde girl, who looked way too hot to be in a bar like they were standing a mere feet away from them. the girl in white had their back turned to them (but an amazing backside view), but the blonde in that black number…now that was a woman. one that river wanted to get to know. “there’s your answer man.” river said moving over to theo’s side, pointing to the two girls. “she may have been hot with a red dress, but there are a million, time to get the attention of someone…more innept.” he laughed, nudging his friend. “i’ll tell you what, you rack up a new game, and i’ll bring them over…” he started, as he took out his wallet, bringing out a 20 dollar bill. “and a 20 who can get a kiss out of one of them.” he winked, before walking over to the girls. “ladies, hello. i’m river.” he said with a charming smile and his southern drawl. “my friend and i need a new game, if you want to play two on two?” he smiled again, before the two girls looked at each other. “i don’t know we’re not very good…but you go ahead. i’ll get our drinks.” the girl in white said. he gave the girl in black a wide smile as he lead her over to their pool table. “darlin, this is my friend theo..” he said as they went to the other side of the pool table. “and beg my rudeness, i didn’t even ask your name. and you know a gentlemen always asks…”
ivy’s head turned when a man, a very fine man that she had already had her eyes on, came up, had a nice southern drawl and introduced himself. River, that she could remember. Raising an eyebrow at Casey dismissing her, she shrugged her shoulders and followed River to where he came from, giving a bright smile to Theo. “it’s nice to meet you both, though i can’t help but think you two might be tryin’ to take advantage of 2 pretty girls who may or may not be tipsy.” She turned to River, a sly smile on her face, that dang southern accent bringing out her own from South Carolina. Shaking her head, Ivy gave them both a smile. “I’m Ivy, and this.” She nodded towards Casey as she came over, “Is Casey, Casey this is...” she listened to the story about the nachos, and before she could even comment, Casey was climbing up Theo like he was a tree. “Theo... Theodore... Teddy, ahh.” she turned and looked at River, “I’m gonna take a guess Theo is also known as Teddy, sometimes? Like a bear?” She crossed her arms and kept her eyes from her friend, shaking her head slightly. “you’d think with how lucky Casey is with her ventures and men, that I would be able to find the one from that stupid festival six years ago... want a shot?” She raised a tequila shot towards River, shooting it before laughing when she heard Theo, “ahh, betting men, I see. Shall we put some money on this game once they get it back in their pants?”

The drive to the bar was shorter than she anticipated. Then she realized it was probably because she hadn’t had a drink of alcohol in a few weeks, and she had yet to eat for the day, yet she had helped casey polish off that bottle of wine. It would be fine, they would grab a shot, order some nachos, and see what poor souls they could take advantage of. As they walked up to the bar, Ivy, gave casey a look before shrugging her shoulders, “you pull white off way better than any other person I know. You should claim that color honestly.” Ivy personally wasn’t a fan of the color on her, unless she had a spray tan that was horrendous. but then she didn’t like walking around in only white until the tan faded. the bar had a few people in it, though they were easily the most dressed up, and the second the door opened all eyes were on them. perfect. ivy linked her arm into casey’s as she scanned the bar, already seeing the 2 boys at the pool table they could easily beat. especially telling by the way the balls were scattered haphazardly across the table. “2 on my 6, they’ll have no idea what hit them when we sink them.” she winked at casey before going to the bar. “um, 2 tequila, 2 tequila soda, and the biggest order of nachos you can get us.” she set her card down on the bar, hoping to get a little extra on those nachos.

“yeah no one is douchey enough to be named that.” casey sighed as she leaned her head on the couch. “you know i was a little preoccupied with other things thank you very much….” her voiced trailed before taking a drink of wine, just as she heard callie come back. “i blame you sissy….if you didn’t ditch me i wouldn’t….” suddenly she lost all ability to talk when she saw callie wearing the same exact dress as she wore last night. “what in the …..” she started, and before she knew it, callie was off for the night. “dude i havent even washed it yet uck.” she grimaced taking an even bigger sip of wine. “we’ll find someone else to get your head outta those books and into their laugh.” she laughed….finally topping off her wine, already the second glass. though she quite literally clapped with excitement. “that is the SPIRIT!” she said jumping up from the couch. “mostly because i am VERY hungry and intoxicated and am craving nachos like crazy right now.” she said pulling ivy up from the couch and dragging her to the bedroom. “but we’re both taking a page from callie and pulling something from my closet because i clearly have the best style.” casey said, exaggerating to herself, before dragging her to her bedroom. “are we thinking this, before browsing through her closet. “now this is a very important question…..do you want to wear pants? or a dress? i know we’re just going to the bar for nachos but these decisions matter…”
ivy couldn’t help but bust up laughing when she watched the interaction between casey and callie, grimacing slightly at the thought of that dress not having been washed yet. “i’m sure it’ll be fine. knowing callie, it smelt fine before she put it on.” she shrugged as she finished her glass and followed casey into her room before stopping... “no, I have the perfect outfit for this. I haven’t been working my ass of for nothing!” running to her room, she put her outfit on and fluffed her hair so it was a little more sexy, and a little less flat before going back to casey. “Okay, be brutally honest. it’s out of my comfort zone, but i think it looks good, yeah?” she did a little spin one way, then the other, waiting for her answer. “i could wear black shoes, gold shoes, red, it’s so versatile. or is it too much?” who was she kidding? it was casey, it likely wouldn’t be enough. “nachos and drinking and dancing. maybe some pool? we can shark all the boys.”

“i’ll bet money it’s not, but alright.” ivy laughed as she listened to casey’s theatrical performance of her previous night, rolling her eyes when she mentioned she didn’t have his number. “Casey, rule number one of hoeing out, you get their number if they’re that good!” She laughed, her eyes traveling to Callie as she rushed out in Casey’s dress from the night before, the wine she had drank (and lack of food in her stomach) caused her to burst into laughter, her eyes falling onto Casey, “she’s gonna have sex, with ryan, in that dress. you’ll need to burn it.” downing the rest of her wine, she shrugged her shoulders at the mention of festival man. “nah, i’m past festival man. he’s probably chilled out, has kids and is married. And I’m here, getting drunk on 2 glasses of wine after studying for the bars all day.” ivy chose to ignore the last statement she made, pouring herself another glass. “we can go out, okay? I need a break. a nice break. you’re right. the test is in a few months, I can take a weekend off.” she raised an eyebrow at casey, knowing it wasn’t going to be hard to convince her to go out with ivy.
ivys-law:
ivy couldn’t help but laugh as casey started her show, pulling her knees to her chest as she took another sip and listened to the adventures. Ivy loved Casey, but her energy was a lot higher than her own, and she was always shocked at how she was able to just go, go without a break. when she mentioned the piano, ivy took a mental note to ask for a recording of that, knowing for sure one of the siblings had taken one. clapping as the blonde sat down next to her, ivy let out a soft laugh, “bear? bear is… well, I hope for your sake you didn’t stoop as low as to sleep with someone named bear. but, your adventures are enough for me to listen too, but I think I would die if I ever went out with you. I can’t bounce back like I used too.” She winked at Ivy before taking a sip and grabbing the bottle, pouring Casey another glass. “Did you get his number or anything? This is like one of those, he’s meant to be but you didn’t follow through the all the steps. Like that one guy from like… what, 8 years ago? At that festival. He was the man of my dreams, that weekend was so perfect. Never got his name, his number, but man oh man, I’m sure he’d be in the run for most magical with your beat.”
“not sure why, but i keep seeing a bear everytime i see his name. i’m sure it’s something like that.” casey laughed, reaching for the wine bottle again. “but that’s why you need to come with us, let loose and make sure i don’t die.” she laughed sticking her tongue out. “oh trust me i finished through…” she started before pouring her glass of wine. “and through and through and through.” she giggled before putting back the bottle on the table, and taking a sip of the wine. “but no, i did not get his number. i barely got his name…sort of.” she sighed, before taking a long drink of the wine, and resting her head on the couch. “but what i liked best was talking to him. sure i don’t remember half of the conversation, but it was like i was with matt all over again.” she sighed, remembering her fiance, may he rest in peace. “he was just so easy to talk to, and we stayed up most of the night talking before the bartender said last call. i wish i remembered some of that conversation as much as i remember the sex. but i guess the stars just weren’t aligned that night. only fate can bring us together again.” casey shrugged, before looking over at ivy. “don’t worry ives, i’m sure festival man will come back in your life.” she said nudging her with her foot. “and drill that big ol stick up your butt.”

ivy was pretty engrossed in her book, going over yet another chapter that she had read 2 or 3 times already. As she got closer to her first time taking the Bar exam, the more nervous she got. In fact, she was so nervous she hadn’t even heard Casey walk in until she plopped down next to her, her head spinning to the blonde. “Study? You know that word?” She gave the girl a smile as she closed her book and set it on the other side of her, taking a glass and pouring herself a glass. her eyes glanced over to Casey, a small smile slowly growing before she sighed and rolled her eyes. “Alright, I’ll bite. why wasn’t it all bad? Who did you go home with?” If she recalled, she hadn’t heard either twin come in.
“i don’t study, i rehearse.” casey exaggerated as she took a big gulp of her wine, and smiled as ivy poured herself a glass. “atta girl.” she laughed and nudged her friend, before standing up dramatically. “the tale starts in a drunk haze, where i look around, and see my two sisters ditched me for….MEN.” she cried, as she took a sip of her wine once more. “and so after i paid the DJ to give me a microphone and access to the piano in the corner, i was serenating the entire club with my beautiful voice about feeling so woeful from being ditched…..and then there he was.” she pointed dramatically with her wine glass directly accross from her. “an exact replica of robert downey jr. from iron man 2. minus the glasses and facial hair and he was a lot taller, but STILL. he looked just like him.” she sighed, remembering the night as much as she could. “and after my fabulous song i walked right up to him said “someone as cute as you needs to buy me a drink.” and that is how much i remember before i ordered an uber to go to his place. and oh my GODDDDD” she exaggerated before flopping on the couch next to ivy. “that man had magic hands. and lips. magic everythinggggg.” she sighed into a pillow next to her. “but alas the night turned to morning, and i had to meet my sister for brunch and i had to sneak out, before i could even remember his name…..it was like bear or something. not one hundred percent sure. but he had the lightest green eyes i’ve ever seen.” she said, before finishing her glass of wine.

casey grabbed a whole bottle of the good wine hidden in the cabinet, so her and ivy could drink it since they were staying in, while her sister went out on her date with ryan. or whatever that was. “god do you do anything but STUDY?” she emphasized as she plopped on the couch next to ivy. “we need to get you out of here! literally should’ve come to the bar last night, when my sisters ditched me.” she said pouring herself a glass. “but i guess my night wasn’t all bad…”
