evermore is such an insane album when you really think about it. like. love isn't forever. friendship isn't forever. trust isn't forever. family isn't forever. even a marriage isn't forever. but then she ends on evermore (song) and it's like: you know what else isn't forever? pain. suffering. heartache. she just flips the script of the entire album on the LAST SONG and cements the complexity of its core message in 5 minutes. and i'm supposed to be normal about that

i LOVE it when taylor self-references the song she's writing. all those other girls, well they're beautiful but would they write a song for you? i stopped picking up and this song is to let you know why. the girl in the dress wrote you a song. i'll fight their doubt and give you faith with this song for you. i grabbed a pen and an old napkin and i wrote down our song <3

i love taylor so much because lover ends with declaring that she wants to focus on joy and not heartbreak. then she writes folklore and evermore, two albums about heartbreak. then she ends evermore with declaring that she’s learned when it’s time to move on and that she’s still survived with herself intact, and she’s leaving the past behind. then she writes midnights, an album about going back in time and refusing to move on from the past. it ends with declaring that the lunch tables of her past don’t matter anymore because she’s in control of her relationship and her life. then she writes the tortured poets department (including the anthology here), an album about how she lost complete control of everything and maybe never had it to begin with. it ends with declaring that these stories aren’t hers to process anymore, and she releases them in order to find her freedom.

Every award show, I’m like HELL YEAH I’M A SWIFTIE. She supports everyone, is always the first to stand up and last to sit down for a standing ovation, says hi/takes pictures, takes time to talk to kiddos, hypes her friends up, uses her air time like a genius bc she knows she can bring fans to newer artists, serves looks every time, and best of all, she dances her ass off.

She does all of this without caring who calls her cringe. She does all of this knowing damn well that hoards of people hate to see her happy. She does all of this when, with her status, she really could just dip in and out. She does it knowing that most of her goodness is rejected.

And she’s stayed authentic!!! She’s been like this since she was young. In many cases, she’s been authentic at the risk of losing what she’s built. She’s genuinely one of the most magical people I’ve ever encountered and if that makes me a parasocial poptart, so be it. In an age where bullying is applauded and calling people cringe is social currency, she’s so unapologetically herself. <33
