Empty-Handed
- Starring Sana

*Christmas Special 2017
“No, no, no. Please.” You said in disbelief, with your hands on the ice cold glass that began to fog up from your hot breath. All of the stores had closed hours ago before you remembered that you never picked up a gift for Sana. Christmas is tomorrow and you had put off getting her a gift due to your intense work schedule. You nearly broke the glass panel as your hand thudded against the window. What am I going to do? Sana probably got me something expensive, and I’ll have nothing to show for it when I receive it. I can’t believe work got the best of me. Stupid night shifts, why can’t the older staff take half of the shifts as well? Bias. Maybe I can still find a few shops that are still open. Ugh, it’s so freaking cold out. You thought to yourself, as you exhaled into your hands and rubbed them against each other.
Brrrt. Brrrt. Brrrt.
“Hello?”
“Hey (Y/N)! Are you still coming over tonight? The girls and I are planning to eat out tonight, if you want to join us. I can text you the address if you’re interested.” Sana sang into the phone.
“Oh, uh, what time is it?”
“Right now? Almost 6pm?”
“Sorry, I meant the dinner.”
“We’re planning to head out in a few so if you’re coming let me know right now.”
“I… can’t come. I actually have another dinner that I have to attend. Sorry Sana.”
“It’s fine! Enjoy your dinner! I’ll see you tomorrow. Mwah!” Sana said excitedly as she imitated a kissing sound.
“Thanks, enjoy your dinner as well.”
Sana hung up and you exhaled once again, leaving a trail of hot air that slowly dissipated into thin air. For the rest of the night, you drove from one mall to another, trying your hardest to find anything, anything at all. Unfortunately, your efforts didn’t pay off and you came up empty handed by the end of the night. You missed dinner, a chance to spend Christmas Eve with Sana, and you didn’t find anything that you can gift to Sana tomorrow. You were pretty pissed and stressed. As you tried to fall asleep, you decided that you would just be honest to Sana and tell her the truth without making any excuses. When morning came, the weather was perfect, snow slowly fell onto everything, coating them all with a light layer of whiteness. You got up and made yourself presentable and drove straight to Sana’s house without eating breakfast.
“You’re here! Come!” Sana was dressed in a t-shirt, shorts, and had a santa hat on top of her head. She brought you inside where you guessed that she was probably in the middle of eating breakfast because her plate was unfinished.
“Are you hungry? Did you eat anything yet? I was just eating, do you want some? I just made something simple, pancakes, scrambled eggs, and some toast.” Sana offered.
“I’d love some pancakes right now.” You admitted.
“Great! Just give me a second then, I’ll go make some fresh ones.” Sana got up to put on the kitchen apron.
“No, no, that’s alright. I’ll help you finish the rest here.”
“Are you sure? I really can make some fresh ones, it won’t take long.”
“Yep, I’m good. Come here, sit down so we can eat.”
Sana took off the apron and joined you at the table. She began to eat again, and occasionally she would give you a bite too. You watched Sana eat, wondering how you were going to explain how you didn’t get her a gift. You must’ve ended up staring because Sana began to feed you everything that was in her plate.
“Ahh… I’m so full.” Sana said, sitting down on the couch and patting her tummy.
“Did you guys do the gift exchange yet?” You asked.
“Oh with my friends? No, not yet. We’re doing that tonight since they’re all out giving out gifts to others.”
“Why’re you home by yourself then?”
“Well obviously because I’m waiting for you.”
“Waiting for me?”
“Mhm, I have to give you my gift don’t I?”
“Gift. Right. Ahem, okay.”
“It’s upstairs, let’s go.” Sana said, grabbing your hand and leading you upstairs. Frick, what do I do. I’ll just see what happens then tell her everything. She’ll understand.
“So to be honest, I didn’t really get you anything super amazing or fancy, but I just thought that this was so cute.” Sana said while you waited for her to get it.
“That’s alright, I don’t mind at all.”
“Here it is!”
Sana took out a small box that was wrapped very elegantly with a golden ribbon tying it all together. You carefully opened the packaging and discovered that there was a single mitten inside. You took the mitten out and it unraveled itself into a singular mitten that was shaped like a V.
“Sana, truthfully, I…”
“Mhm?”
“I didn’t get you a gift. I didn’t forget but I had a really long week at work and they worked me so hard. I’m not making excuses right now, and I just wanted to tell you that I’m really sorry. It’s Christmas and everyone is getting gifts for everyone and I just… dropped the ball.”
“(Y/N)...”
“I really wanted to get you something nice…”
Sana hugged you tightly and pulled you head towards her chest.
“Wanna know something interesting, (Y/N)?”
“Hm?”
“Christmas isn’t about gifting or receiving anything, it’s about spending the holidays with your loved ones. Whether you got me a $5 chocolate, a $500 necklace, or nothing at all, I still love you the same. And I’m sure you feel the same way as me, so don’t feel bad for not getting me anything, because no matter what gift other people give to me or whoever. I’ll always have you to myself.” Sana said kindly.
“Wait, Sana. Did you just say something deep? You? Of all people?” You said, astonished.
“I guess… I did? Who knew, hahaha.”
“Are you really my Sana? What have you done with her?”
“Ohyohyohyohyo, you’ll never find out!” Sana used her signature laugh to make you chuckle.
“Anyways, what’s with this weird mitten, there’s only one mitten but there’s two holes.”
“I can’t believe you. You’ve never seen this? Here, let me show you.”
Sana took your hand and inserted into one of the mitten openings and then she stuck her own hand into the other and interlocked fingers with you inside.
“See? Isn’t it cozy and warm?”
“Oh… this is pretty neat. How much was it, just wondering?”
“Pfft.” Sana giggled.
“What?”
“$5.”
Sana laughed out loud as you pulled her closer to you and tickled her some more. What a Christmas.
Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I am on time this time! I hope everyone’s having a blast over the winter holidays, please be safe, take care of yourselves, and remember that Christmas is NOT all about giving gifts and receiving crazy expensive things. That being said, if you guys do get anything, I hope you will treasure it!

Forgetting Something
Tumblr media
Forgetting Something
- Starring Mina
Word Count: 1344
“Really… I can’t believe this.” You complained to yourself quietly as you looked into your favourite coffee shop. It was jam packed. Every single seat, table, counter was occupied by someone. This new coffee shop had just opened and you were one of the first people that knew about this shop so you always thought of it as your little secret place.
I really should just come back another time but I’ve already come so far and it’s raining so hard right now. Maybe I can wait for a few minutes for someone to get up and leave? You thought to yourself as you ducked beneath the roof to hide away from the heavy rain. The weather changed abruptly and you were caught off-guard, resulting in you becoming completely drenched. You patted yourself dry as best as you can, and entered the shop. It was warm inside, too warm. Since so many people managed to pack themselves into the shop, it felt extra warm as the aroma of teas and coffee filled the air. I’ll just grab something small and find a spot, enjoy my drink. And leave once the rain lets up. Well, there’s a super long line. So… maybe I should find a spot first and see if I can reserve it somehow. You’ve never had to reserve a seat for yourself before, so you almost felt embarrassed as you spotted a seat from far away and tried to think of ways in which you could accomplish this. Maybe I’ll leave my jacket there? Or I could ask the other people sitting nearby to save me a seat? I doubt they actually would though. I don’t want to leave my belongings there either. But if I go and line up, I might never get a seat afterwards. After deciding that you want to protect your belongings, you found a group of girls who were happily chatting among themselves and politely introduced yourself to them. The table they sat at seated six people, they were a group of five, so naturally, there was an empty seat.
“Hey? Excuse me? I was wondering if that seat there is occupied?” You finally cut in, after they stopped talking for a brief moment. The girls all shook their heads.
“Can I sit here then?” You proceeded to ask.
“Of course.” The girl that sat adjacent to the empty seat spoke up. She had long black hair that shined, and her smile literally glowed. Then she discreetly raised an eyebrow at you.
“Did you want to order something? Or are you just sitting here until the rain clears up outside?” She asked.
“Oh, yeah, both? I really wanted to find an open seat first before lining up… Would you please save this spot for me?” You gave her your friendliest smile ever and put your two hands together.
“Sure. I don’t see why not?” The girl responded quickly.
“Really? Thank you so much! My name is (Y/N)! What’s yours?” You asked after breathing out a sigh of relief, and held out your hand to her. The girls eyes moved from your face to your hand and then back to your face. She slightly hesitated before she shook your hand and replied.
“Yes, yes, you already told us your name, haha. My name is Mina. Nice to meet you.”
“Okay, I’ll be back soon! Thanks again! You’re a lifesaver.” You exclaimed and draped your jacket over the empty seats backrest. You left in a hurry to get into the line and as a result, almost slipped on the wet ground. You regained your balance and turned back to see Mina’s expression, she quickly diverted her attention away from you but you could see that she was trying hard not to laugh. After 15 minutes, you had finally gotten your drink and returned back to Mina’s table, however, it was just Mina sitting there now. She had your jacket draped around her lap as she sipped her coffee in silence.
“Hey… where did all of your friends go?”
“They said they were going to go somewhere before heading home, and I don’t have anything specific to do so I decided to stay here and enjoy my cup of coffee. Plus, I did promise you that I would save you this seat, didn’t I?”
“If you have somewhere to go, please don’t let me keep you here.” You said as you sat down.
“Well, your phone and jacket are here, and there’s a lot of people in here… so I probably shouldn’t leave it out in the open.” Mina said slowly with a smile appearing across her face. You could feel your face becoming hot in response as you hung your head a bit lower.
“Sorry…”
“No, no, it’s fine. I really don’t have anywhere else to be. Just be more careful next time.”
You scratched your head in embarrassment as Mina handed back your jacket. You noticed that she was wearing a skirt as you took your jacket back.
“By the way… I really like your background picture on your phone. It’s very… interesting.” Mina remarked casually.
“You saw it?!?”
“I’m just teasing. Based on your reaction though… I want to see it now…”
It was strange for you to get along so well with a stranger, as the two of you talked like old friends who haven’t seen each other in years. Mina said she had to get going once she finished her drink, but you noticed a half hour in that her drink had been finished for a while as the cup was relatively dry. The rain continued to shower over the few individuals who were scurrying around outside, in seek of shelter. After a full hour of chatting, Mina decided that she really should go since she remembered that she had a few errands to run before going home.
“It’s still raining pretty hard outside… and it doesn’t look like it’s going to let up anytime soon. Are you sure you can’t push back those errands?” You commented while searching for a clearing between the dark clouds in the gloomy sky.
“Yeah, unfortunately, I do. I can’t believe I forgot about them. Well, it was nice talking to you. I hope I’ll see you around.” Mina said as she opened her umbrella.
“Uh, wait a second.” You said abruptly, and kneeled down in front of her.
“(Y/N)?”
“Excuse me.” You said before you wrapped your jacket around her waist and then tied the two arms of your jacket together in the front.
“What’s this?”
“Well, I noticed that you were wearing a skirt earlier, and it’s raining outside so…”
You looked up to Mina who was smiling warmly towards you. You felt your temperature rising again just from meeting her eyes, so you deliberately looked away.
“Aren’t you going to be cold now? I don’t want to take your only jacket.”
“That’s alright, I practically live here. I can stay for a bit longer.”
“Okay then, I’ll be back soon.” Mina walked out into the rain and waved towards you. You waved back and returned back inside. I should probably give a call home and tell them to not wait for me for dinner. Now then, where did I put my phone… You looked around the table where you sat, and still couldn’t find it, then you looked outside. Mina was standing outside and she pulled your phone out of your jacket and waved it towards you. Sigh, of course… You ran outside and joined Mina under her umbrella.
“Forget something?” Mina sang in a little tune.
“Haha… you know what, I’ll just come with you.”
“My umbrella’s not big enough for the both of us though.”
“Well then, move over a little for me.”
“Fine… if I get a cold after this, you owe me.” Mina reluctantly agreed as the two of you squeezed under the small umbrella. Shoulder to shoulder. It may be freezing and wet around the two of you, but under that tiny umbrella, it was undoubtedly warm and cozy.

Just wondering when you’ll post more of your writings?
I’ll release one or two writings this week and then I’m going to focus on my finals that are starting next week. I just finished my second wave of midterms so I apologize for not posting anything in quite a while. I’ll be back for winter break!
