I have been dancing since I was about five years old. When I say this, many people immediately think tap, ballet, or even jazz dancing; however, I do a form of Indian classical dancing called Bharatanatyam. Bharatanatyam is one of the most cherished and popular dance forms in India. Bharatanatyam is physical expression that is centered on displaying the divine or spiritual aspects through the body. It allows me to express who I am and unites me with my culture. The dances typically depict ancient Hindu tales that involve multiple characters.
During my senior year in highschool, my dance group held a performance to raise money for a blind school in India. Through our dance, we depicted the popular story of a maiden who was turned into a tiger. It took months and months of preparation and practice to learn the expressions and steps. I participated in several solo and group dances. Overall, we raised $40,000 for the blind school.
Expression and form have allowed Bharatanatyam dancers to thoroughly execute what they are trying show. It has taken me years to reach the point I am at today regarding my ability to express and perform, but I still have a long way to go.

Often enough, there is a lot more to a name than simply being a name. A name can have a deep meaning and tell a whole story. In Indian culture, I have noticed that many adults name their children after the gods and goddesses they worship or use common names that have a beautiful meaning to them. My name was given to me based off of its meaning. Neha means love and affection. My parents gave me this name because they hoped and always had this feeling that I would be a very loving girl. They initially wanted to name me Sneha, but they didn’t like the sound of the “S” so got rid of it and named me Neha. I am very happy they did that because I am not a big fan of the name Sneha. I love my name very much, and I love what it stands for. I am extremely loving and affectionate. It does get a little annoying when people mispronounce it and make jokes of how my name sounds like a horse, but I have gotten used to it and do not get offended. I love my name, and I love that my parents chose it for me with a purpose. I would never considering legally changing it. I do believe my name has had an impact on my personality and on what I value. I value love so much. I am very loving and get attached to people very easily which I believe is expressed in my name. I am not so sure what I would name my kids in the future, but I hope to choose something that has significance and great meaning.

Selling my toaster oven!!! My toaster oven is from my freshman year at the University of Miami. I went to Costco with my family to buy food the day after we moved into the freshman dorms. We were all a bit excited but nervous as this was the last thing we had to do before my parents would say goodbye to me. We were very confused when picking a toaster oven because there were around five that we could choose from. Some had a many extra features and were more complex than others. After reading each box very carefully, I decided to buy the most basic toaster oven as we weren’t allowed to own appliances in the dorms in the first place, and I know I would not use all the extra features. This toaster oven changed my life in college and is definitely what I would consider as one of my valuable possessions.
Toaster ovens are similar to microwaves but, in my opinion, make the food taste so much better and give it a crispier texture, rather than soggy. You will not go wrong with this appliance! When coming back to my dorm late at night freshman year, my toaster oven would heat up very fast and cook anything from mozzarella sticks to whole burgers so quickly. The toaster oven makes food that I eat taste more like the food my parents would make at home. The toaster oven always made me happy, and I know it can make you happy too.
Selling Price: $25

These headphones may seem uncool but I’m telling you that they are the new and upcoming trend. The white and extremely ugly airpods are so easy to lose and have terrible battery power. They die after three hours. These cool headphones pictured last for as long as you want. These headphones add a little spunk with their black and yellow color and they will never ever run out of battery. You also won’t look lame walking around with a charger for your wireless headphones because these don’t need to be charged! Since they stick into a phone, there will be no way of losing them. They make you look intense while working out or simply working on homework. Also, there is a very low chance of losing them as they plug into a phone and are attached to each other. These headphones are sleek but not too sleek and bulky but not too bulky. They are the perfect amount of everything. Not many people have them on University of Miami’s campus so you’ll look different and special. They are so cool.

An object that I own and consider cool are my Yeezys. These shoes were created by Kanye West and were originally worn by the affluent members of society. West grew the brand name by having the shoes worn by the Kardashian family and many other influential celebrities in the fashion industry. The shoes have been growing in popularity ever since they were released in 2015; however, owning a pair is not as big of a deal at the University of Miami because they are worn by many.
I believe what makes Yeezys cool are their creator, rare shoe drops, and price. Kanye West’s brand has a very exclusive and trendy feel to it. His shoes“dropped” on the Adidas website for a reasonable price in very minimal quantities making them fairly rare. When they are bought by other sellers, they can range from $400 to $5,000. I believe this low supply creates a demand among many. This expensive price makes them “cool” because only a handful of people are able to drop this much money on a pair of sneakers. Yeezys follow the trend. The Yeezys pictured are an older style. Recently, West has released a bigger, chunky shoe that fits the changing trend better.
