Lifelong Learning
“There is a cure for anti-aging that actually works - it's called lifelong learning.” - Robin S. Sharma
Think about someone who you admire, perhaps they’re a peer or coworker, maybe an old teacher or someone you worked with in the past. What qualities about them do you admire? Are they curious, intelligent, constantly looking to learn more and improve themselves? Everyone appreciates good conversation with someone who is articulate and knowledgeable about interesting topics, and odds are that the person you admire is a lifelong learner. Being a lifelong learner is just what it sounds like—someone who is committed to learning continuously throughout life. More specifically, lifelong learning is the voluntary, self-motivated pursuit of knowledge. Lifelong learners enjoy personal, professional, and health benefits, and they might just be the most sought after person in the room at a dinner party.
The Benefits of Lifelong Learning
Socially, people who are knowledgeable and have drive for self-improvement are admired and respected. This admiration transfers to the workplace, where lifelong learners are prone to success because the people around see that they are committed to their own growth. Commitment to growth through learning leads to winning respect in the workplace makes you more likely to get promoted. Lifelong learning can also be very economically beneficial since those with advanced degrees earn considerably more than individuals who did not attend college.
However, you don’t need a degree to reap the benefits of lifelong learning. Research has shown that there are numerous health benefits that accompany lifelong learning. Reading can reduce stress levels, improve sleep quality, and contributes to a more healthy lifestyle. And regularly engaging in learning activities can actually offset cognitive decline associated with aging or degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's.
Finally, lifelong learning benefits all of us because learning contributes to the advancements to humanity. Humans’ desire to learn and improve ourselves is what sets us apart from other species. Society would not be where it is today without humanity’s drive to learn and expand the frontier the known. Learning is key in democratic society which ultimately rests in the hands of its citizens, of which lifelong learners being more likely to be active citizens and participate in democratic society.
Finally, commitment to learning and improving oneself gives us a personal sense of growth like no-other. Remember the feeling you get after solving a difficult math problem, finishing a hard crossword puzzle, or from reading a long, good book. Do you love to hit your learning goals or check difficult tasks off your list? Learning makes us feel good about ourselves, and it should, we deserve it!
How does using Knowsome help me become a lifelong-learner?
We’re glad you asked! Knowsome is actually specifically designed to help busy people become lifelong learners. We want everyone to be able to partake in the joys and rewards of lifelong learning, which is why we build curriculums that can easily fit into your schedule.
On-the-go learning
In Knowsome, learning is split into modules that are small enough for you to learn on while on your commute or during your lunch break. You can learn from your phone, computer, or tablet. Spend your spare time diving into topics such as art, literature, music, history, and science, while still leaving time for work, friends, and family.
Learning reminders help you stay on track
With the help of Knowsome, you can turn your life’s distractions into learning moments. In the Knowsome app, you can select as distractions (my biggest enemy is the Instagram) and when you visit those websites, or if you have visited that website already Knowsome will send you a notification asking if you would like to continue on that site or take the time you would be spending on social media on learning. These notifications are a gentle reminder that the social media app you opened probably isn’t worth your time and you could instead spend your engaging your mind.
Breadth of topics keeps learners engaged
Through Knowsome you can learn about just about anything: ancient greek gods, gastronomy, turtles, martial arts, you name it, and we’ve go a course for you! We do this for a number of reasons, first of all we are fascinated by many different topics and love writing courses on them. But another reason is that by offering courses in a variety of topics anyone can find something to learn about that interesting to them. And the number one way to keep learners engaged in learning and having fun, is interest. It’s simple: people like learning about topics that interest them, and when someone finds a topic boring, chances are they’re not gonna stick with it for very long. But with Knowsome, you don’t have to worry about that!
Personal learning trajectory helps you stay in the game
Another way we keep our learners engaged is by customizing a personalized learning trajectory for our all learners, which motivates you to keep learning and share your achievements with friends and family.
If you want to become a lifelong learner but have never really had the time, Knowsome is going to be your best friend!
