December Drabbles Day 5 - The Christmas Card Chaos

Day 5 - The Christmas Card Chaos

The twins took after their mother. They were both crazy about Christmas. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise, then, that the two of them insisted on making Christmas cards for all their friends at preschool. Sesshoumaru had tried to explain that the New Year’s cars were the traditional ones to exchange, but the twins thought that to be boring. 

Naturally, this card craze struck the children while Kagome was down with the flu. His wife was the crafty one out of the two of them, but whatever would keep the children occupied, Sesshoumaru was willing to try, so he caved in to their demands.

A decision that he soon regretted when the dining table and all the materials haphazardly placed on it were covered in red and gold glitter. Tomoka liked her stars sparkly. Meanwhile, Yuuta was painstakingly drawing an elf on his card. Sesshoumaru supervised and helped where he could. Mainly, he was on the glue and scissor duty, because if he let the children close to either of those things the chaos would reach catastrophic proportions. So he cut out the Christmas trees from the green cardboard for Tomoka. She then drew in the stars. Sesshoumaru applied the glue and Tomoka would let loose with copious amounts of gold glitter that Sesshoumaru was sure they’d still find around their kitchen come August.  

Yuuta, however, ignored both his father and his sister, fully immersed in his elaborate drawings. At five years old, his drawings were better than anything Sesshoumaru had ever managed to produce. 

“I’m done!” Tomoka announced, grinning at her messy pile of cards. “I’m gonna show mom!” 

“Don’t,” Sesshoumaru said. “Mom needs to rest. You can show her tomorrow.” 

Yuuta looked up from his card for the first time. “Would mother feel better if we made her one, too?” 

“A special one!” Tomoka squealed, immediately taken by the idea. 

Sesshoumaru’s heart squeezed in his chest. It was amazing, how the children always managed to surprise him. How he could already see glimmers of the wonderful people they’d one day grow to be. How so much love could fit into bodies so small.

“Yes,” he said, “I’m sure your mother would feel a lot better if she got a special card from you two.” 

“Yay!” 

“Let’s make one, Tomoka.” 

“Yes!” 

Sesshoumaru watched his children bend their heads together — engrossed in this new project, tossing out more and more wild ideas for what the card should be — and smiled.

so my apartment building got a notice board to post fire alarm tests and maintenance announcements and such. the building is pretty well-maintained, so we rarely get notices. the board is big and grey and to think it would be empty like that 99% of the time was a bland boring sin i just couldn't bear, so i vandalized the corner of its empty canvas with a teeny tiny Guy

and within a few days, there was a sudden addition from my one of my neighbors along with a Bunch of thumbtacks. this was an unexpected, but welcome surprise!

well there was still so much space, i figured i'd add another crumb to the art hoard. i'd been playing genshin that day so i drew my favorite grandpa

and like clockwork, new art manifested!! this person is gonna grow to be a great artist i know it. the detail in those stones? hell yeah that's cool.

we're two weeks into it. more neighbors have joined in with their artwork. who knew there were so many artists in my building?? we're onto somethin great here i just know it.

How to have a good internet experience in 8 easy steps

#1 - Stop having a bad faith interpretation of every thing you read

If you think something someone said might have been something you disagree with, instead of starting an argument, ask them to clarify or ask them specific questions about what they said

You will be so surprised to find that half the people you assume are being shitty or negative just didn't phrase what they meant very well

#2 - Learn to block people

It's free, it's easy, and it will save your life. Tired of someone tagging your stuff with characters from a fandom you don't like? Don't try to control them by telling them not to, just fucking block them. Less upsetting to them, less work for you, less inflammatory, more effective.

#3 - Don't share your entire backstory with strangers on the internet

No one is entitled to your information - not your pronouns, your age, your sexuality, your location, nothing.

Share the things that you're comfortable with, but remember that the more you share, the more vulnerable you make yourself to attacks. Like, do not share your triggers in your bio. You are giving abusers and harassers a to do list. Keep that shit private for your own safety.

You can get harassed, you can get stalked, you can get doxxed. Internet safety is real and necessary and the less we care about it, the more we set up future generations to get hurt through the internet

#4 - Learn to say, "It's none of my business."

Don't understand someone's desire to use neo pronouns? None of your business. Can't understand why someone is a furry? None of your business. Curious about how someone who talks about being poor can have a Starbucks in that last selfie they posted? None of your damn business.

If you don't like certain things on your dash, unfollow or block people. If you don't understand how someone can identify a certain way or do a certain thing or like a certain thing or feel a certain way or literally anything, just remember, it's none of your business.

If you have genuine questions from a place of good faith (i.e. what inspired you to use neopronouns?/what do you pronouns mean to you?) Go for it. But if you're only asking questions to draw negative attention to someone or make them feel bad or to other them, you're just being a nosy asshole.

Minding your own business is also good for you because - and I mean this genuinely - feeling entitled and superior is fucking exhausting. I know, because I've been 20 before. You will have a way better time online if you just stop caring about shit that doesn't concern you

#5 - Learn to lurk

Lurking is frequently seen as a bad thing, like someone who's lurking is somehow being creepy. The truth is, lurking is a great way to learn. More people should do it.

For example, if you're new to a community, spend some time consuming content and information from that community without saying anything. This goes for fandoms, queer spaces, disabled spaces, cultural spaces, etc.

Nothing is worse than being in a community for years and someone popping in for the first time in their life and airing their opinions loudly and with zero respect for the space. A great example of this is that post someone made about the leather pride flag. You know the one.

(If you don't, basically, someone said that the leather pride flag is embarrassing and insulting to the queer community and has no place at pride and then got schooled by hundreds of people about how the leather pride flag is one of the oldest flags in the queer community and leather daddies and leather dykes were the people on the front lines protecting other queer people from cops back in the 80s and 90s)

So basically, learn the history of a community, research your opinions before you decide they're your opinions, and keep your ignorance to yourself until you're not ignorant anymore. Not only is this better for community spaces, you won't have 9000 notifications of people telling you to shut the fuck up

Learning to lurk to educate yourself about a space also makes actually speaking in that space a lot easier

#6 - Stop believing everything you read

I'm not talking about stupid funny stories. Believe them - it's not hurting anything to get a laugh out of something that may or may not have happened.

I'm talking about news and current events. If you hear that some celebrity did something and there are no receipts, go and find the receipts or discard it. People spread misinformation on here all the damn time. It's like a game of telephone and, unfortunately, a lot of small creators end up getting slandered and canceled because of it.

#7 - Quit wasting energy on hating random shit

Being annoyed by a certain fandom is one thing, but actively hating things that other people do just because you're not into it is such a waste of your energy. Not only are you actively putting more negativity into the world, you're wasting your own time on things that upset you.

Focus your time and energy on the things you do like and quit scrolling through Tumblr user AnimeIReallyHate7648's discourse blog. You might think it's fun, but there comes a point where hating something goes from kind of fun to actually obsessive and unhealthy for you as a person.

#8 - Unlearn purity culture

This is a big one guys. What is purity culture? It's referenced a lot, but I think a lot of you don't know what it is.

In short, purity culture is when people take many nuanced situations and try to divide them into black and white categories. There's the Good category and the Bad category. The problem is, life is not in black and white. You can't put a neat line down the middle between good and bad. This kind of thinking is extremely regressive. Ask any therapist alive and they will tell you that black and white thinking is unhealthy and often a Symptom of Something.

So, what happens is, someone sees something on the good side and spots something they think is morally objectionable in it and says, "this can't be here, it needs to go to the Bad side." (Cancel culture). The problem is, people are always on the lookout for anything wrong in the Good - constantly looking for impurities so that they can completely sanitize things and therefore be free of sin. So they will look harder and harder and harder and keep moving things to the Bad side of the line until there's basically nothing left on the Good side.

This ends up meaning that perfectly good media is canceled because every character in it didn't make the perfect, right choice every time. It damages media in that it demands characters be completely flawless - something no human is. When a character does something that's actually problematic, even if the media doesn't condone the behavior, instead of engaging with it and using it as an opportunity to learn and teach other people why that wasn't okay, people who subscribe to purity culture throw the baby out with the bathwater, saying the entire piece of media should be canceled because its creators support the problematic action of that character (even if they don't).

This entire line of thinking is extremely unhealthy, heavily informed by Christianity, infantilizes adults, assumes no one can distinguish fiction from reality, and promotes censorship, which has a long and sordid history.

I could go on about this at length, so if anyone wants a full post, just let me know. But the point is, purity culture is bad for community, it's bad for media, it's bad for healthy emotional and intellectual development, it's bad for interpersonal understanding and empathy, and it's bad for you.

Unlearn purity culture and you will be a happier person. If all else fails, remember step #4.

OMG, I cannot express how much I love your writing. I found your blog today scrolling through tumblr and your writing fascinated me, it’s so compelling and well written. I then decided to check your ao3 profile just to find out that you are one of my Favorite authors in ao3, gotta say , found in translation was a game changer for me. What a coincidence. <3 <3

Found in Translation is a Collab between me and Cinful, with plot, helping with avoiding loopholes, ideas, and other stuff, (storyboarding) being my forte, and Cinful being the talent to write the story and ideas that my brain comes up with. I have been included as an author of Found In Sweets, as as my Maladaptive Daydreams have been super helpful to Cinful, and it’s ended up becoming a whole series to write! But thank you for the gushing. For me personally, I am a crossover writer. I am not so great with /reader stories, as my stuff is not neutral enough to write /reader fics, but I do write crossovers with Inu Yasha and Naruto. But put a good story in front of me, and my daydreams usually take off.

Cinful is the one who made Illy come alive. She’d used my avatar, which is my OC Ithillon, as the basis of Illy. (Tickled me pink when she told me that.) So kind of yes, kind of no, I think your opinion would change now, as only half of your favourite author, but I am enjoying the excited gushing because while I may know the plot and I am indeed helping with the messages for Found In Sweets, I never know exactly how Cinful will write the next chapter. So I usually squeal along with others when reading my own ‘work’ on AO3!

I adore Marriage of Protection and Giving Her Purpose! I’m dying to know how everyone reacts in MOP when they find out Kakashi got married, especially his “eternal rival”. Any plans on updating them?

Yes! I am working on the next chapter. It’s interesting to try and get past awkwardness. BUT! The next chapter is shopping, and meeting Kakashi’s friends then. There is a lot of things going on, because Kakashi is antsy, and this has to be dealt with as smoothly as possible. Lots of work to be done. Giving her Purpose is a fic I only update once a year as a gift to a friend. She adores the fic I write, and chapters of that for this year will be started soon as well.

Hey I really liked your story on Ao3 kakashi and kagome fanfic. I loved it. Please update it

I am flattered that you enjoyed it, but I also don’t know which fic you mean, I have a couple of them up on AO3, on top of that, I can't just write one story at a time. My ADHD won’t allow me to do so. (Which is very frustrating T.T) I end up hopping from fic to fic to fic. Infact, let me show you what I have for WIPs right now, because my brain will not stay in the same pairing to start, write and finish anything beyond oneshots. Very long oneshots. (I had to split the Indra oneshot into five parts for the ease of the reader because reading 31.9K words is a bit much to do all in one go) But your welcome to any of my other posted fics! You're also welcome to ask about any of the fics I have listed in the screenies below!

As you can see, all of my fics have been opened up so you can see which of the guys I write for have fic ideas with Kagome. And this is just Naruto. I have a few Anatolia Story and Pharaoh’s Concubine fic ideas too. After posting some of my completed BUG prologs, and a couple other fics, I found myself overwhelmed with the pressures of needing to update. To fix this, I decided to only post chapters when I could put a few in one go, and only update when I felt like it was ready. 

I have no set schedule for writing, cause for me, that’s too much pressure. Something I don’t do well under when it comes to my imagination, or my Maladaptive Daydreams. I lose my want to write. Which means fics don’t get updated, which means sad readers. Which, given what you asked me very nicely for, I highly doubt you want. 

On top of all that, I do have a life outside of writing, and she happens to need a lot of my attention. So, just like you do, I have a life outside writing, and while I could just alakazam a fic done, I can’t. Sorry hun. :( IRL comes first for me. I do have an author subscribe button, so you'll be notified of anything I do post, and I will let a bit of a peek out for what I plan to post next, if I can get far enough...

Finding The Original Bride - Hashirama/Kagome has seven completed chapters.

Marriage Of Protection - Kakashi/Kagome has seven completed chapters and the start of an eighth.

Wooing A Higurashi - Madara/Kagome has eight finished chapters with a ninth in progress, but this fic, I intend for it to be finished before I even think of posting anything on AO3.

goodness! okay uhhh, let's see... I'm not the kind to be irresponsible when I drink. I usually stop drinking a couple hours before I have to go home, and drink lots of water. So I'm usually fine to get home myself. Stone cold sober by the time I'm ready to go home, but it's nice to know someone would have your back if you can't.

1. Kakashi, that man is so reliable, and honorable. No way he wouldn't.

2. Iruka, he's too kind not to!

3. Shisui, again, super kind, and not the type to leave people behind.

4. Yamato, he's also very kind, and if he cares for you, he'll make sure you get what you need. He'd even come and make you breakfast the next morning, and make sure you get all the fluids and food into you, along with painkillers.

5. Gai. This man, honestly, he's crazy about making sure his friends are alright, and if he can't get into your apt, he'll bring you to his, and take the couch. He makes my heart melt at how awesome of a friend he is!

eeek, I'm horrible at these things! I don't think I even have 10 followers who'll do this!

Uhhhhhhh...

1. I am really patient, and try my best t be kind, but not the kind where others can walk all over you.

2. I love watching people get excited about things they love. Wil never tell someone to shut up about them

3. I can COOK! I can BAKE! And I do have people who line up and ask for food when they hear what I am working on. I've given out my alfredo lasagna and regular lasagna, along with my recipe for Sheppard's pie multiple times, and lots of people have bought me fish and all the ingredients I need to make them smoked fish or jerky, and it's something I LOVE doing! It's a universal language I love to speak with anyone I can!

4. I can help with stories like crazy. Just put it in a context where I can throw in some stuff you may not have thought about before, and I am happy to be able to do so. Nothing worse than wanting to write and getting stuck.

5. I love learning. It's a huge inspiration to me and what I write, or talk about to other people. The most satisfying things to learn are those that you can create with afterwards, and I find that always worth learning.
