Final statement
My bathhouse focuses on the process of detoxification. The way in which water filters through this process is also a key element. Detoxifying is all about flushing out all the toxins in your body. Drinking water is the simplest and most important part of this process. I’ve created a bathhouse which has all the elements to completely detoxify. Starting with exfoliation. In order to cleanse your body you need to get rid of your dead skin cells to allow your pores to breathe. Entering a warm bath made from scoria will allow the skin to soften then when it scrubs along the texture of the scoria it will exfoliate. Once the body is clean you then enter down into the mud bath. Bathing in mud has so many benefits, with the amount of minerals found within the mud. The body goes into full relaxation mode; curing any sore aches and pains as well as reducing stress. Then allowing this mud to dry up, it will pull out any leftover impurities and toxins within the skin. Finalizing the process with a sauna allows the body to fully cleanse and refresh; and with the added element of the Kawakawa plant, it brings in more natural healing properties into the mix. Then adding the extra seating area outside the sauna with the Kawakawa tea; I think is a really important addition. This allows the body to just come back to reality and rehydrate.
Without the element of water none of my design would be able to function. I've used it to bathe in, accompanied by the relaxing sound of the water trickling down the scoria rock walls. Then I mixed it with mud to create a bathing area. Even using it to grow the Kawakawa plant which you then bring into the sauna, where you indulge in steam. Finally you are putting the water back into your body to rehydrate and refuel.
I think detoxification is a process which is crucial for everyone, especially people living in the CBD as well as students. People living in the city don't tend to get outside as much in comparison to others. I feel like living in that bustling environment almost never lets your body refresh and detoxify. As well as all the fumes and pollution getting absorbed into your body every day. For students (as well as anyone) it's super important to allow the body to detox and destress, as well as cleanse the body after a night out!

Decided not to use the pumice for a path as when I added water to it, it began to disintegrate. Instead I will use scoria for all of it which will work the same

Experimenting how water trickles done the pumice rock. I’m my deign I’m using scoria instead which isn’t as fragile but I got an understanding of the flowing movement and the way the water soaks through the indentations and travels through the rock. I have also been using this as an exfoliating device in the shower and my skin has become so smooth.

I found some resin in the garage so I decided I would try test it out as it would be perfect to fill my pool with this as it will create that reflection in after. I did a test swatch and I noticed the cardboard I’m using has pulled up and turned yellow. I’m not sure if it will work but I’m planning to try seal my pool with pva around the edges and hope it solves this problem

I’ve been struggling to figure out a medium to create my final design on. I wanted to use a 3D modelling site however as I’m not in uni I don’t have access to one such as rhino which I need to create all the organic curvature in my deign. I tried on a free 3D modelling app however it only allowed your to do a limited amount of things. I’ve decided to create another model and use that as a way to display my atmospheric images.

My last chat with rafik he suggested I embrace the entrance more. I have decided to create these organic clay stairs which create a main entrance from the courtyard area and another slightly smaller one travelling down from my street.

Enric Miralles I really love the contemporary forms and shapes created by the materials and light. The fluidity in Miralles work is really inspiring.
The way he works with wood and creates a layering technique with the different tones and positioning.
I’m inspired to reflect these techniques in my sauna design for the exterior

I was to have an area to sit and rehydrate after the detoxification process. The idea is to have a seating area as you exit the sauna. Talking to rafik made me think about the process of rehydration and the ritual there is behind making your own tea and having a moment of relaxation when drinking it. Because kawakawa yea is so simple to make I feel it would be a nice and easy task for the guests of the bath house to do themselves. My idea is to have a cylinder of hot water where a guest just has to pick a fresh leaf of the growing vines by the exit, place it in a mug and add hot water. This also helps to educate people on how they could carry on this detoxification process into their on homes and lifestyle.

I steamed my face with kawakawa leaves for a week to see if there were any noticeable changes to my skin and how it felt. Within a week my skin felt so much softer and looks so much brighter. The instant feeling afterwards was fresh and rejuvenated. The smell was also really soothing and calming on the lungs
