i want to feel pure happiness again. i miss being a child and hearing the door open and being so excited that my dad got home. i miss the feeling of running outside after school and collecting strange leaves outside while we waited for the bus. i don’t know what happened but somewhere along the way, i lost that pure happiness. joy became impure, like i couldn’t feel this happy with my parent’s divorce or a rough day at work or a subpar grade in a class. joy became something to leverage against me, like being happy was childish and cynicism became what was expected of me. i want to be happy again, truly and purely happy, in fleeting moments and in my reality. i want joy without anything written between the lines.
