Finished

I received confirmation of an initial diagnosis of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's Disease) on December 17th, 2007. Linda and I were meeting with a well regarded ALS specialist at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston. After a fairly cursory physical examination and a review of my medical records, the Doctor took about 10 minutes to explain what ALS was, that I could expect to live 2-5 years, suggested we "get our affairs in order" and offered us a coupon for a wheelchair (no kidding - and I was walking with little problem on my own at the time). The message was clear: "You're finished." I have no specific plan for this blog other than to share some thoughts and to hopefully encourage others fighting disease or just the everyday challenges of life. I don't know where the coming months and years will lead but I DO know that John 19:30 offers infinitely more hope (and truth) than that Doctor did in December 2007: "30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit." - John 19:30 (NKJV) "It ain't over until it's over." - Yogi Berra

It is not your call Doc!
Like you I sat this past Saturday in a Dr.'s office who diagnosed my younger brother with ALS.  He basically stated that he should go have fun and eat whatever he like and enjoy whatever time he has left because there is little or no hope.
My heart broke instantly and I sobbed, and everyday since I have done the same, but in addition to hurting I am believing and trusting that GOD can do all things.
I will continue to pray for a miracle and look for inspiring stories to uplift and encourage him daily and and clinical trials that will be the avenue to rid the world of this horrid disease.
Your Sister in life and in Christ!
