Top Five Practical Lessons I Learned in Philosophy
Philosophy. A lot comes in my mind whenever I hear the word philosophy. I remember thinking that philosophy will only leave me confused and troubled as existential crises may always occur. And it did. But I’m not complaining.
I remember feeling nervous on our first meeting because I didn’t know what to expect. I expected Philosophy as a subject to be so heavy on us but I didn’t feel its weight until now. I think the teacher made a huge difference in the subject because he always made Philosophy fun and relatable for us, and I genuinely did have fun even though we only had the subject for about five months.
With that said, I give you my top five practical lessons I learned in Philosophy through quotes.
 1. “Man is condemned to be free”
Philosophy has taught me that being free is two-fold. It is both a blessing and a curse. We are “condemned” to be free because we didn’t create ourselves. We necessarily didn’t have the freedom to create ourselves. However, once we’re in the world, it is now our responsibility to give meaning to our lives. Now, we use our freedom to give life meaning.
 2. A wise man possesses the right questions.
A person is intelligent when they ask the right questions, not give the correct answers. This is because knowledge stops at answers. When a question is answered, that’s it. However, when questions keep coming, that’s when a person truly discovers things.
 3. “I” needs the “others”
We are incomplete. Throughout our lives, we will never be complete and we will always strive for more. This is related to the infamous quote “no man is an island.” The “I” pertains to us while the “others” refer to the world and everything that’s in it. We need each other to complete our gaps as both are incomplete.
 4. “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it”
The last topic we got to discuss was all about environmental philosophy that’s why this quote stuck to me. The quote is also timely as today, we experience various and huge environmental issues. Because of Philosophy, I was able to be more aware of the environment and the different ways you can look at it. But one thing if for certain: saving our planet is priority. The belief that someone will eventually save the planet will be the downfall of humanity because if not us, then who else?
 5. Cogito, ergo sum
“Cogito, ergo sum” is a famous saying by Rene Descartes which translates to “I think therefore, I am.” This quote basically means that everything can be doubted except for the “I” or yourself. Because, if you’re doubting the “I,” then who’s doing the doubting?
This helped me gain more confidence in myself in a way that no one will believe in me besides myself. Others may believe that I can do it, but I’ll never get the satisfaction I want unlike when I believe in myself.
Everything that I’ve learned isn’t included in here yet, but I can guarantee you that Philosophy is fun! This is where I truly experienced education as fun and not tiring. So many concepts were taught which helped me a lot in finding myself.

JAPAN GOODIES FROM THE SISTER
Okay, so recently my sister went to Japan for 5 days and she brought home some stationery for me!
Tumblr media
She bought these notebooks from Tokyu Hands. They're by the brand Kokuyo and they come in a pack of five! These notebooks are lined/dotted and has a very very very smooth surface which is reaaally perfect for calligraphy!

The next thing she got me was these brush pens for calligraphy! She bought them from Daiso.
Tumblr media
The first one (the top one), i don't know the brand lol, but it has a small tip and I guess you can compare that to the Pentel Fude Touch Sign Pen. It also writes similarly but this one's a bit more stiff. It's not wonky like the Platinum Signature Brush Pen (although I still love this pen) so it's really great!
The Daiso Dual Tip Brush Pen is (obviously) dual-ended. It has a black tip and a gray tip. It writes in medium to big strokes, kind of like the Tombow Dual Brush Markers. This pen's tip a bit sensitive because after a few moments of writing it in very smooth paper, it already frayed! Other than that though, I like the pens but I wouldn't recommend them.
The Brush Calligraphy markers come in three colors in a pack. Red, blue, and black. The tips of these pens are similar to the Pigma Brush Pens, but they're not wonky as those! These pens are reaaally great and I love them so much! They can write really really thin upstrokes if you have a steady hand. Their ink is similar to the Zig Clean Color Brush, but they have felt tips! I really recommend these pens, they won't disappoint you (atleast in my opinion).
The last one is a Zebra brush pen in fine tip. I already have the medium tip so I already know the product's great. The pen reminds me of the Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen in soft tip but the Zebra one write thicker strokes. Zebra brush pens never really disappoint me so I also recommend this one!

I really like the stuff that my sister got for me and I really recommend the products! They're really great and dependable too. 💛
