Maybe it’s a bit wild for me to come to this conclusion, but it seems as though misogyny is somewhat prevalent in this fandom. Male characters seem to be far more popular than their female counterparts. There are people who can easily name like 40 popular men/male-like characters and struggle to name more than 4 female characters that aren’t Jane, Sally, Nina, Clockwork, etc.
People also tend to be more forgiving of badly written men than badly written women (though this sentiment has decreased significantly lately). Characters like Jeff still have a lot of fans and (until pretty recently) characters like Nina and Clockwork were dismissed as ‘Mary Sues’ and were bashed for the poor quality of their stories. I’m not saying people didn’t criticize male characters as well, but they still managed to be popular despite this.
Also, has anyone else noticed that a lot (not all) of the female characters that do get popular have some sort of relationship with a man? Like Jane hating Jeff, Clockwork and Toby being shipped, Nina being obsessed with Jeff, etc. It’s as if male characters are allowed to exist independently but female characters have to have some sort of involvement with a man to be considered even remotely deserving of relevancy.
my heart absolutely breaks for gaza. imagine screaming for help. for someone to save you and the world ignores you for the most part. shame on anyone and everyone who supports this. where is your empathy.
