18 - I swear it was an accident

Their anniversary was coming up and the two of them had just never found time to celebrate due to their schedule with Milan and always having events with their teammates. Ante had wanted to treat Rade since the injury come back. His husband had done so much for him during it, driving him around and helping him at doctors' appointments. he meant so much to Ante.

it was a common joke within the dressing room that the two of them didn't need words they spoke mentally and with looks instead of feelings and emotions but ante always wanted to tell Rade why he loved him and show him different ways he adores him.

The weekend of their anniversary happened to correspond with Rade’s 100 appearance. Ante had it all planned out in his head, the two of them would play for Milan and then Ante had forced Marko to call Rade after the game to help with his puppy. This would allow ante enough time to cook the dinner he had planned and decorate the apartment they shared together.

Saturday came and Rade had played brilliantly once again just calming down Milans’s midfield, but it was the events off the field that Ante was most looking forward too. The team was highly jovial after a solid win, the usual idiots had begun their songs and dances while Rafa was on his Instagram live again. Ante had sat on the window seat on the bus cos he knew it made Rade feel sick to see it all blur together. They chatted a little bit about how it felt to win and be part of the elusive 100 club. Rade was feeling a little tired and rested his head onto the shoulder of Ante and got a little bit of sleep

A ring awoke Rade and caused him to be sit up on his own. Ante missing the warmth of his partner, looked sadly at him. Rade shhed him and pecked him on the cheek as the person he spoke to continued to ramble on. “Marko needs some help, so I’ll be home late, I hope you don’t mind” Rade confessed, Ante faked a small frown and nodded but inside he was thrilled.

Turning on the lights and checking on the dogs’ Ante placed his coat on the rack. He turned on the music and walked through the apartment to the kitchen and set to work. He had called Rade’s grandma to ask about his favourite childhood meal. Rade had always been homesick and it only once he found Ante that he began to feel comfortable in Milan but Ante wanted to show him his love by bringing his home to him.

To adopted child:

Send home Rade in like twenty minutes.

The message said delivered on his phone. He had about 10 minutes to get ready and then take the dish out the oven. And have it all set on the table. Changing into this nice dress shirt he stroked one of the dogs giving her the biggest belly rub ever.

He had lost track of time with the dogs but if he rushed would still be on time, he began with the table laying out cutlery and then the dinner mats and plates he kept changing the placement cos nothing felt right he wanted it to be close and intimate, but everything felt off and too distant. This was not something Ante always did. Rade had always been the better interior designer he just made it all so homely. Ante continued to fuss around until he was happy and then he added candles.

By the time he was heading back into the kitchen the front door was being opened. Instead of being greeted by his loving husband hugging him, he was greeted to his coughing husband and a cloud of black smoke pouring out of the kitchen.

In his fret, Ante ran to the kitchen and opened the oven. he had burnt the dish wasting too much time on the table rather than the food. Facing Rade he began spilling out with words “it was an accident i swear, i wanted to make this the best night ever and instead tis ruined i just wanted to share a piece of my heart with you and your grandma said food was the way to do it and now it’s all ruined.” Rade took pity on his partner and pulled him into a tight embrace, this was the most romantic thing anyone has ever tried to do for him even if it was burnt and ruined. Rade pulled Ante over the couch and rather than fuss about the food, he pulled out his phone and ordered a takeaway after all his husband deserved a treat too.

Rade held Ante all night and that is what made their relationship special they had each other and that is all they needed. The dogs did end up joining them, the little monsters crawled around until they were comfy and splashed across both the mens laps. This was their family and Rade couldn’t ask for a better anniversary present
