About the whole "where are arti's pups thing", I've recently seen a theory circulating around that baby creatures (or perhaps just scugs I'm not rlly sure) aren't entirely bound by the cycle yet, meaning if they die, they don't come back. For example, losing a slug pup in game(I haven't actually unlocked the scups yet but I'm 99% sure they don't come back).
For Monk and Surv, it's implied they're young adults, meaning they'd still at least be affected by the cycle.
I don't think Arti's pups were as lucky.
ooo that's an interesting theory!! It would definitely explain the gameplay aspect of slug pups, and i think it makes for some interesting story potential.
Personally, i don't really think i subscribe to the theory though. Mostly because i think if there were some creatures, or life stages where creatures weren't bound by the cycle, there's no way that the ancients wouldn't have explored that in depth right?
They were obsessed with the cycle and with ascending, and it's mentioned that most, if not all creatures in the game are purposed organisms or descendants of them, which means the ancients or the iterators made them. If something they made could escape the cycle, they'd definitely try to figure out how to apply that to themselves, yet there's no mention of that anywhere.
#meta#rain world#tysm for the ask!!#i love debating stuff in this game#i don't think the theory is bad at all btw#just not for me c:#i could def see some really good angst that could come from that tho#the potential#ask.txt#yourfavoritecascade

example of the ambiance!
I just realized you can literally hear the water running through Five Pebbles that's trying to cool him down and clear off the rot in General Systems Bus ambience??
That's so cool god, it really sounds like incredible amount of water being moved... also kinda relaxing to listen to ngl.

I don't know if this is a dumb question, but I always wondered how arti's pups actually like... died? I know they got speared by scavs, but due to the cycles, shouldn't they just wake up again next cycle? Moon directly says that's how it works in other campaigns... Why can't arti meet up with them again? With the rage that she's feeling, it's also implied that they're actually dead too, and not just separated like monk/surv.
if anybody has an idea/answer, please let me know it won't leave my brain lmao

I love the inversion of Moon's and Pebbles' opinions on their cities and citizens. You'd expect the nice and kind moon to like her citizens, but she likens them to skin parasites. She insults them often (only apologizing after the fact as an after thought), and doesn't seem to care much for their culture or history. She doesn't seem to miss her creators at all.
Five Pebbles is the complete opposite. He considers his relationship with his citizen to be symbiotic. He didn't even dislike the ancients who hated him for being build!! Instead he considered them a nice challenge to use his time on.
He also enjoys the ancient's history and art. He can identify artists by a single piece and recall their name and the era they came from.
He was envious of Iterators who were build earlier and were there to see the ancient's void fluid revolution, the evolution of scripture into the first age of understanding.
The only thing that keeps him company past rivulet is a pearl containing a short hymn that was popular in his city. It reminds him of better times. During saint's time, even when Five Pebbles is barely conscious, he still wants to keep the pearl safe and with him...
He's been playing it again and again, to the point where the hymn on it is starting to get corrupted, like a DVD that was loved and played so many times it got too scratched up to play again.

I find it interesting how each iterator colony seems to be unique in terms of government. There doesn't really seem like there's an overall government or laws that a country might have? Instead each city on top of an iterator decides their own laws and how to go about things.
From spearmaster's broadcasts we know Secluded Instict's city had a whole cult going on with one leader and a whole caste system centered around that one person's beliefs.
Wondering Omen's city seemed to hold a lot of festivities for a lot of different things.
Some cities seemed to revere their iterator more than others. From several pearls we know that a few Houses of Moon's city despised Five Pebbles, and even refused to move even with deteriorating conditions.
[the exterior, ashy green pearl]
[random white pearl dialogue]
(I feel that one is extra ironic, since Five Pebbles eventually collapses on top of Shaded, crushing it to nothing...)

Pronouns for the iterators:
Looks to the Moon - She/They
Five Pebbles - He/They
Seven Red Suns - They/He
No Significant Harassment - He/They
Chasing Wind - They/Them
Unparalleled Innocence - They/she
My take on the iterator local group!
I was inspired by @shkika's wonderful designs.
I really loved the ball joints and wanted to push it a bit further, so I made the limbs segmented. Fluffy Suns propaganda continues.
I also made a rain world side blog! I'll be reblogging all my rain world art there with occasional additional comments or lore, and all my meta posts and potential fanfics/chatlogs will be only there! The side blog is @irreparable-hope.
